The list price of over 700 in my opinion is not worth it. Among the many Fuji zoom lenses and compatible with similar focal lengths, the most sensible comparison is with the 18-55 that it replaces in the Fujifilm catalog. I'm using it a lot with an excellent XT20 unfortunately without OIS; it is said that it was born for the 40MP of the XT50 with which it is sold in a bundle, but even on the 24MP of the XT20 the difference in sharpness with the 18-55 is not a small thing, and not only in the center but also at the edges of the frame; images with greater micro-detail and also sharper and more highlighted lines (buildings, architecture, etc.), sometimes a bit 'hard' so detailed it is. So much so that often in PP I have to slightly reduce the contrast, which I don't do with the other lenses. The colors are vivid and faithful as from Fujifilm, compared to the 18-55 perhaps a little more flare but nothing compared to the 15-45 (which costs a third). The real shame is that for 70 grams less, 240 against 310, compared to the 18-55 it loses stabilization, what did it take to put it? There is even on the 15/45 which costs and weighs very little. Did they remove it to induce the purchase of stabilized models? Also this 16-50 is fairly cheap to build. Being also a bit dark at 50mm (4.8 against 4.0 to 55 of the other) without a tripod the danger of micro-blur is there and you often have to raise the ISO even in broad daylight. In short, pros and cons but if what matters most are the images, this 16-50 objectively takes better photos than the 18-55, the 15-45 (of course) and beats it with the 10/24 F4 which remains one of the best X-mount zooms ever. But for my use (landscapes, architecture) the 16-50 focal length is more usable and in fact while deprecating the absence of OIS and owning these other 3 lenses that have it, lately I use almost only it. At f16.5 it already closes a hair at f2.9. At 18 mm it closes to f3.0, at 24 mm f3.4, at 35 mm we are already at f3.9, at 40 mm f4.3 and at 50 mm we arrive at f4.8. Nothing dramatic, knowing their behavior. For daytime photography or in non-dark conditions it performs well. The performance, in my opinion, is good on the entire excursion, even at bright apertures. Used on the road, it proved to be very versatile and as mentioned comfortable and practical to carry around due to weight and size. If you want for general excursions, he alone could be enough for the range of excursions covered. However, it also has some negative points, for example it happens to me to involuntarily move the ring of diaphragms which is continuous, without wanting or realizing it, because I find it quite smooth.
