Pros: Sharp, very fast focus in good light, excellent image stabilization. Good bokeh in most situations. No chromatic aberration.
Cons: zoom creep, small lens foot, MFD is too long
Opinion: This lens is very sharp at all settings and focuses nearly instantly in good light. C-AF is very accurate with my X-T3 (haven't tried other bodies).
No Chromatic aberration visible in any image so far
Good build quality, and fairly lightweight for the size. Excellent hood that attaches and detaches easily. Smooth control rings.
Bokeh: Most of the time the background is pleasing. Sometimes it has cat's eye bokeh. Has some onion rings at times. Photoshop can take care of the distractions.
What Fuji should do next time:
I wish it had a shorter MFD.
It needs a bigger foot on the lens collar.
I wish it had a friction setting for the zoom to avoid lens creep.

Opinion:I have been using this telephoto zoom for a long time that I take to the mountains because of the small bulk in my backpack; the AF depends mainly on the Fuji camera bodies (WHICH is well known DO NOT shine in this) but the image quality and sharpness are really out of any criticism with a slight decrease in sharpness at maximum focal length. I have photographed chamois, ibex, squirrels and birdlife always with an excellent quality/price ratio. Too bad that Fuji bodies, despite having a high sensor quality, sin in AF because otherwise with this lens you could always take action photos at the TOP even if with a little technique and luck everything is possible
Pros:Build quality, low weight, excellent stabilization, responsive and precise AF, excellent optical quality, excellent zoom smoothness.
Cons:Apart from the somewhat small tripod collar, I don't see any other contraindications worth mentioning.
Opinion:With great satisfaction I have been using this beautiful super zoom for some time, the more I use it the more it amazes me. I use it almost exclusively for birdlife shots and as far as I'm concerned, I don't feel the need to go further, for example by replacing it with the XF 150-600mm (already owned in the past) because you can take home beautiful shots of animals in flight even at long distances... Of course, there is a limit to everything! I remember that this lens covers a focal range that compared to the FF is equivalent to 150-600mm which is not cheap. I used it on the Fuji X-H2 and now I'm using it on the Fuji X-H2s, two fantastic cameras! I don't want to dwell on the technical specifications but I'm talking more about user experience, so.... used in fact, on X-H2/H2s camera bodies does not make you regret the expense faced as the sharpness is already raised to TA if we then close a third of a stop at 400mm, i.e. f/6.3, here the subject framed even at a distance still has a beautiful definition, at f/8 everything is even more defined! obviously you have to lord it over a bit with the ISO, let's say that up to 3200 ISO the detail is still very present and appreciable, beyond that it goes a bit fucked. The autofocus behaves very well, in fact there is a certain respectable reactivity and it is also very precise. The handheld use, at least for me, is not tiring at all despite the weight of 1.4 KG, moreover I find that it is also well balanced despite the fact that the barrel protrudes a little when you extend it. I recommend a Battery Grip to better counterbalance the weight and make the grip even firmer. Honestly, having tried the XF 150-600mm, I prefer it as it is not only less bulky but I also consider it to be at a higher level of versatility, construction and solidity. See photos taken with this Fantastic Zoom on my profile, especially with the X-H2. Happy shooting everyone!
Pros:Low weight and dimensions, solid construction, focal ranges, stabilization, optical quality, compatible with multipliers
Cons:Zoom fluidity, tripod collar, slight drop in sharpness to 400mm
Opinion:I have owned this lens since 2016, the year in which I moved permanently to Fuji, I use it for nature photography and some glimpses of landscape. Starting from the weight and bulk I consider it comfortable both for long walks in the mountains and for fixed stalking on a tripod, it does not take away too much space in the backpack and in the various mountain treks I never leave it at home. It is well built, solid and with an excellent grip on the aperture, zoom and maf rings, even if the zoom mechanism is not fluid, you need to give some force to extend it, this certainly due to the pronounced extension when you go to 400mm. It is a 150-600mm equivalent, focal range very useful in naturalistic both for narrow shots and set of animals, and why not also glimpses of landscape around 150mm. Sharp at TA even if at 400mm with distant subjects (above 25-30m) it seems to lose a thread of sharpness compared to other lenses of this kind, but nothing tragic. It holds up well to the TC 1.4X, maintaining the same excellent quality that you have at 400mm, making it a 140-560 F8 very useful on distant subjects. Too bad for the tripod collar which is small and without the swiss ark attachment, a little longer would have been useful for carrying by hand. With the new cameras Fuji (XH2s and XH2) has gained much more speed and precision in autofocus and at present it still remains the best lens for nature photography in the Fujifilm optical park.

Pros:Build Quality, Sharpness, Af, Price
Cons:Weight [for me]
Opinion:Optics purchased in October 2021, used mostly x sports photographs (rally and track) and x landscape!!! A really remarkable optics, even at 400 mm (x the use I do) never had problems, even the sharpness very good!!! Like the "old" Nikon I had on SLR!!! Af side in combination with the Xt4 and Xt3 never had problems!!! Replaced only for the question "weight" with the 50-140 !!! Returning to the 100-400 I recommend it to those who do sports and birdlife certainly in the Fuji system a must have!!!
