Pros: Sharpness, price, weight

Cons: Build quality (obviously it's not L-series), brightness

Opinion: Obviously it is not the twin L series of which surely something envies but it is really an excellent economic alternative, the price is low but the lens is more than valid, if you have a high budget and are looking for a top lens this is not for you, the sharpness is not from L series but it is still good. The lens on presents lèggera. Quick and still accurate. It's a good lens kit. Too bad to be a bit dark, in my experiences she was still able to give me good shots.

Pros: Lightness, focal range, sharpness (hobby), fast enough, stabilized

Cons: Sharpness (work), darkness (apertures)

Opinion: Taken to try it during my travels but after I took back the 17-40 f4 L I resold it, but only for obvious reasons of focal otherwise it would have remained with me given the cost, lightness, stabilization and sharpness that for the photos of my travels is more than fine; I remain of the idea that if I have to travel for fun and relaxation I do not want to weigh down the journey. Used once for work and NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. For the reasons listed above, namely that it is dark, not very sharp and I do not trust a priori.

Pros: Small, economical, programmable bezel, focal range

Cons: Image quality, brightness.

Opinion: The worst lens I owned. Except only weight and dimensions. Create anonymous images that clip the wings of the ff of the r series turning them into compact dele in my opinion. The aperture that closes by zooming in also makes manual photography cumbersome, always having to correct the iso up to the stars indoors. With its price or a little more you can buy the old but much better from every point of view ef 24 105 L used.

Pros: Price in kit, lightness

Cons: Distorted colors, brightness (very low) from super zoom

Opinion: A decidedly mediocre lens, which makes sense only if purchased in kit and then paid just over 300 euros because it is very light to carry with you. The distorted colors and the images totally devoid of three-dimensionality do not do justice to the goodness of the R series cameras. Better, at this point, to provide the kit with a nice fifty all-rounder, which is exploited very well in the videos.

Pros: Small and lightweight, but with excellent optical quality already from the maximum aperture, in a good compact construction, which also includes an aspherical lens. Up to 50 mm, bright enough for almost any use. Beyond it is still fine in most situations. 0.34 m to 105 mm, allow you to make excellent close-ups. Great lens to take pictures (less to do tests ...) and to have a really compact and inconspicuous FF, without compromising on quality.

Cons: For the use for which it is intended, I would say none. I read that others complain about sharpness, but I have absolutely not found this defect. Perhaps, as the previous speaker pointed out, there will be less performing copies in circulation, since the construction is certainly not from the L series.

Opinion: In order not to repeat what has already been written in the pros / cons, I only add a consideration on the maximum aperture at 105 mm. On paper f/7.1 it really looks like crap, but then on the field you realize that: 1) it is only 2/3 stop less bright than its poor brother EF; 2) For landscape photos it is not necessary to have a greater aperture, on the contrary; 3) For portraits, the difference in blurred compared to an f / 4 of the rich brother, is seen only in some situations and is not dramatic (if I want a beautiful blurred f / 4 is not enough anyway). If you want to make a significant leap in brightness (and therefore not to a modest f/ 4), just combine it with a small canvas (eg EF 100 f / 2, but also RF 85 1.8). In short, a modern lens, which does not chase the latest exotic fashions and that cares about the hard. N.B. I have had this lens for about a year and it remains my favorite choice for light travel with my EOS-R, as well as for mountain excursions, motorcycles or bicycles. The only alternative when I need even more lightness and agility, is the 50 F 1.8.
