Pros: It can take great images. It comes 'free' if you buy a kit.

Cons: It gets 7.1 rating, which is silly low ... but read on.

Opinion: This is probably the oddest thing I have found on Juzaphoto this far: looking at the images taken with this lens, you will see countless great pictures. Just look thru 'Sample Photos' below! But the lens has only 7.1 rating (sic!), which is as low as you can get. Or there is a mistake in the rating system or the users do not know how good this lens actually is!

Pros: Lightness, stabilization, price

Cons: Sharpness,construction,vignetting

Opinion: Canon 18-55 was my first lens, mounted on my first SLR, the Canon 1000D. Thanks to this lens, I had the opportunity to learn the basics of photography and composition. The versatility of the zoom allowed me to experiment with different focal lengths without having to change lenses, a great advantage for those approaching this world. Over time, however, its main characteristics – lightness, stabilization and affordable price – have lost importance, while the technical limitations have become evident. The lens struggles to deliver satisfactory results in many situations: in low-light environments, during fast shots, or when working handheld. Poor sharpness in low light conditions and difficulty in maintaining precise focus are its main weaknesses. Despite this, the 18-55 was instrumental in helping me understand what type of optics I wanted for the future and how best to handle the light. Its limitations pushed me to improve and look for tools that better suited my needs. For those just starting out, it remains a viable option for learning and experimenting.

Pros: Stabilization, Lightness, Sharpness.

Cons: Inaccurate Af (part of the out-of-focus framing with autofocus).

Opinion: For the price with which it is proposed it is a lens that does its job, the sharpness is good but not excellent and the lightness of the material plays in its favor. However, it should be noted a defect that from personal experience I have found in other optics of the IS-STM range and that is the imperfection of the autofocus. Explained in other words, with the af I have often noticed that a portion of the frame tends to come out blurry while focusing endlessly. This game becomes more and more accentuated with increasing the aperture of the aperture until it involves half of the total frame. As mentioned earlier, I found the same problem in the previous version of the 18-55 F3.5 IS-STM and in the 10-18.

Pros: Lightness, stabilizer and price (which can paradoxically be a cons based on the use you want to make) little distortion and little vignetting.

Cons: Many chromatic aberrations, sharpness, construction.

Opinion: I state that it costs little so you can not expect it to work miracles. So for those who want to start it is a lens that is more than fine, a very low weight in more stabilized, also noticing little vignetting and distortion. Surely the most painful notes are the chromatic aberrations, the sharpness that does not enhance even if closing at f8 the aperture the sharpness improves. The construction is made of plastic so certainly not of great quality. I gave 7 for the price range.

Pros: Sharpness, construction, protective glass in the bayonet, zoom that finally extends into regular progression, silent and fast focus, excellent stabilizer.

Cons: If you know what you're buying, you can't find any unjustified cons for such an lens.

Opinion: Finally an 18-55 that surprises me! Crisp, compact, solid and functional. Lower chromatic aberration and distortion. The STM focus satisfied me, you can take the photos without worrying too much about using a 150€ lens. For family or amateur use it is more than fine, and since you do so much portraits with an 18-55, I would say that f4, however dark, is a value in this case. Taken new at 100€, tried and kept for personal pleasure.
