Pros: Compact, lightweight, fast and quiet AF (USM), discretely bright, sufficiently wide focal length, good sharpness, nice blur, almost imperceptible distortions and vignettings, front lens that does not rotate during zooming.

Cons: Lack of stabilization, lens hood to buy apart.

Opinion: Second-hand purchased for €80. To go light on the Canon 6d (the 24-105 F. 4.0 weighs and cluttered enough more), I'm using it as a fixed zoom on the Sony Alpha 7 instead of the original 28-70 which is darker and less extensive as the focal range. Sometimes I also use it on the Sony Alpha 5000 (APS-C) on which the field angles correspond to a 40-150. Both on Canon and on Sony, I return files with good sharpness and a fine micro-contrast, coupled with a pleasing chromatic rendition even if at the short focal times I seem to notice a slight tendency towards warm tones. This lens, frankly, surprised me for the overall yield, for handling and for the speed of focus, but also for the construction that I think is quite solid. The specimen I purchased, then, does not present any game of the barrel because, evidently, was little used (or well kept) by the old owner. The only drawback of this lens (as of several other Canon optics) is the lack of the lens hood, to be purchased apart from cheap prices.

Pros: sharpness - bokeh - -usm speed - price used - focal opening - Compact

Cons: barrel game

Opinion: I was pleasantly surprised by this lente.rnL'ho bought looking for an inexpensive all-rounder (used on paid € 80) to be mounted on 5d old and immediately I was surprised by the sharpness already TA.rnL'ho chosen because, although it is not a series L, compared to the 24-105 f4 loses just a little 'aperture at maximum extension but maintains the constant f4 for much of the hike focale.rnA 105 maybe lose a sharpness hair and the fact that no iS is sometimes affects, especially when darkness falls luce.rnPer else I was really surprised, I did not expect that a lens from such a low price could behave so bene.rnPeccato only per barrel which, if inclined, does not maintain the position and it tends to withdraw or allungarsi.rnLo advice for those who, like me, does not want to sell a kidney for Photography.

Pros: Compact size - solid construction - af fast and quiet - bokeh - optical performance general

Cons: not a handyman (on APSC) - game barrel - APSC on some specimens may suffer from front / back focus, to keep in mind if the room does not have AF micro adjustment.

Opinion: I am angry with canon, you, why not produce more optical medium range of the genre and this is a BAD! RnL'ho had for a while on my 400d. What about ... on APSC has excellent optical performance across the range, not cartoon and does not distort appreciably, a little soft at room temperature but improves as it closes. The usm works fine (but you know). The 7-blade diaphragm guarantees excellent bokeh. The color tone is returned is pleasant, slightly tending to hot. For action shots so far is the best lens I've used it, does not restrict movement, not in the eye and is easy to maneuver on panning. Moreover, even a possible filter is not a problem, as the diameter is 58mm lens kit, and then cost a sciocchezza.rnL'unico real limit of this perspective is that being old some specimens (like what I had to example) can suffer from front / back focus. You can not send it to calibration since the cost of that is enormous. Obviously no problebut if you have a camera body with micro af, otherwise it is better to try it on your machine before purchasing. After taking account of this can not recommend it 100%, in combination with a wide-angle lens can be definitive.

Pros: Lightweight, practical, USM, affordable price, decent focal range

Cons: a dark hair, the barrel "dances", not IS, 105mm to lose quite a bit of sharpness, AC visible at long distances

Opinion: Often use this view for what photographer, is comfortable, lightweight, USM also does not suffer from distortion (personally is almost nonexistent, the focus is very fast, although species in low light suffers slow, after all has a very attractive price, in my opinion then up to 85mm has a quality quite good, valid for an optical photos of every day, suffering from AC correctable but always present when photographing something distant, even a few meters
