Opinion: I really can not say that good of this lens, certainly referred to the use I make of it, that of aspiring amateur photographer who often shoots in the street. I mounted it on a Sony A7IV, which allows me to venture a little with the crop. Well the photos taken with this lens lose almost nothing in terms of quality even if cropped beyond what is necessary. The sharpness is also excellent at f / 2.8, although I noticed a not exactly negligible percentage of out of focus in conditions of little lusce and all aperture. I do not know if this is due to the Sony-Tamron combo or simply it is me who demands too much or I who make too many mistakes, also because the photos in the right focus including the close-ups, taken with an open aperture, come out beautiful. I also managed to open it easily to remove some dust under the first lens. Actually the aesthetics does not completely satisfy, but this is not a point to discuss, this is a very good goal, really.

I was very torn as I was in love with the format 70/200 2.8 home Sony (clearly another lens that is worth its cost but is not 3 times better than tamron....). To date I say that it is a spectacular purchase for yield, definition (I use it on a7riii) autofocus even in low light situations, practicality in size and in carrying it behind. I often go out with 17/28 tamron and 70/180 and I don't have big shortcomings. In my opinion the main "defect" lies in the impossibility of using multipliers, in the absence of the physical mf button and in the aesthetic aspect that does not make me crazy ... Would recommend? absolutely YOU !!! PS I made a comparison with the 70-300 tamron vr sony-a and despite the 70/180 has less excursion the quality for the same effective size using digital crop of a high-resolution camera is much better on the 70-180. The 70-300 at 300mm kneads everything and is therefore less usable.

Recently I have this lens mounted on Sony 7C and the field test were photos taken at the Mille Miglia just ended. I come from Canon 6D system and 70-200 f4 and I was totally satisfied with this 70-180. amazed by the definition, and also the focus in C was always up to par. It manages well and weight is not a problem. Highly recommended rating 9.8.

Opinion: I took about 200 shots with the A7III and I must say with excellent results. I arrived here , I try to be honest, not to spend twice as much for the Sony counterpart. Of course there are 20 focal lengths missing but for now I have not felt the lack. I also followed shots inside (gym) with excellent results of colors, I was worried, surprised by the speed of AF even in conditions of non-optimal light and bokeh. The plastics, sometimes not wonderful beds, give me a good feeling to the touch and the solidity of the whole is not lacking. Value for money, excellent. Highly recommended I switched to the A7RIII from March 2023 and the results are always excellent, perhaps a little slower in the AF / c phase, but this does not depend on the lens but on the body ...
