Pros: Sharpness, image quality, corner rendering, brightness, chromatic aberration, angle of view, star effect, automatic internal correction excellent jpeg file.

Cons: Physiological cause construction-distortion, large front lens, flare with side light, size and weight.

Opinion: I had already tried in the past a used Fuji 8-16 together with the X-H1 24MP, I wanted to try again with my current X-H2 40MP the behavior of the 8-16 zoom. Or tried for years optical alternatives that were less bulky but perhaps too much personal compromise. Lately had the new Fuji 8mm f3.5 + 11-20 Tamron but....?, the 8 3.5 for me not very bright too much internal automatic correction, the 11-20 Tamron without aperture ring and sometimes chromatic aberrations in short, always some compromise to be made also to cover the same focal length you need two lenses. Arrived yesterday afternoon tested with my X-H2 40 MP I find really impressive corner yield: it loses something at full opening at the outermost corners, but seen at 100% no one notices the slightly soft outermost corners. I don't see chromatic aberrations really hard to find optically well corrected. Negative points are physiological. The optics in addition to being bulky to many special lenses obviously the very high cost. Excellent construction but what matters to me at f2.8 brightness so also gone for possible use with low light handheld, but also for astro etc. so a very extreme flexible zoom. Another point in favor of the Fuji 8-16 compared to the fixed Fuji 8 3.5 for me the focal discourse if I don't like the framing focal change with the zoom a fixed one you know forced to change lenses which bothers me a lot. Those looking for compactness use filters always to recommend a less extreme zoom example 10-18 2.8 Sigma not to certain problems in more super compact price even much lower.

Pros: Construction, good image quality, brightness, angle of view

Cons: Dimensions and weight

Opinion: The Fujifilm XF 8-16mm is the most extreme wide angle in the Fujifilm APS-C system, where it equates to a 12-24mm. The extraordinary angle of view allows otherwise impossible shots, and the versatility of the zoom gives ample compositional freedom, all without sacrificing quality: the sharpness is very good at all focal lengths and all apertures - taking into account that currently (April 2022) Fuji has no fixed on the shorter focal lengths covered by the 8-16, it is certainly positive to know that this zoom does not regret the quality of the fixed lenses. The distortion is very small, although in some rare cases (eg perfectly flat horizon, such as the sea) it can be noticed, but it is still possible to correct it. Vignetting and chromatic aberration are practically imperceptible. The f/2.8 brightness, combined with the good high ISO performance of modern Fujifilm cameras, allows you to shoot excellent nighttime, and this is why in several of my travels I preferred it to the lighter and more compact 10-24mm. The build quality is impeccable: sturdy, solid, tropicalized. The hood is incorporated and serves above all to protect the front lens, visibly curved; the latter, however, makes it impossible to use filters, unless you mount bulky adapters for plate filters (I do not use filters so for me it was not a problem). My only criticism of this lens is that it is quite large and heavy, almost at the level of fullframe optical equivalents.

Pros: Exceptional construction quality, quality materials. Color rendering and sharpness to the reference edges. In combination with the wonderpana freearc and/or nisi 150 slab it is unbeatable for filming caves, urban, architecture. The PERFECT wide-angle zoom ! Good FUJIFILM!

Cons: If the price was lower than about 200 euros on the price list... I wouldn't say THE PRICE.

Opinion: A must to have and keep with you like a girlfriend... indeed a mistress! In the peripheral areas of the lens is sharp and at the maximum opening F2.8 is a perfect choice for photographing landscapes and architecture, interior. Tested at extreme temperatures: very low temperatures up to -22°C and temperatures up to 46°C high in the desert. The lens is a bomb!

Pros: Sharpen to corners, perfect mechanics, huge 8mm field, star effect, nanocrysal, colors, contrasts, maximum Japanese engineering.

Cons: Huge bulky heavy but you can probably not do better at the end opening f2.8, problematic filters only with 150 mm slabs we are in line with FF optics type Nikon 14-24 that is only 150 mm plate filters. Also found this as a not negative note but to keep in mind check well that the AF is very precise I always see a can the problem on extreme wide angles (a speech how to best set the AF) the 16 1.4 even with very small point of ultra precise and very fast focus but bright f1.4 comes more light on the sensor. Lens flare with side light.

Opinion: When I arrived yesterday a semi-new pair I had always been against 8-16 for various reasons. But in the end I convinced myself to make a beautiful test impeccable surprise up to the edges only my 16 1.4 to still an advantage at f2.8 up f5.6 but at more chromatic aberrations the almost absent 8-16 of aberrations ok in the end wins the 16 1.4 less flare with lateral light but also slightly better angles even the micro contrast I would say not a surprise a fixed against zoom. Really incredible angle of field at 8 mm I had used for periods the 10-24 but a lot the difference between 8 and 10 mm seems strange but those two millimeters changes the field frame much wider. Tests that either done at 8/10/12/16 mm I see excellent hold angles already excellent at f2.8 excellent at f5.6 at all focal maybe my excellent torque or something does not come back to me when quardo test Lenstip at 8mm. It is difficult to ask for more mechanics to perfection perfect rings even the one for perfect manual putting. Against heavy optics really very demanding but you can probably not do better at the end opening f2.8 and problematic filters only to 150 mm slabs I will never use them that is why in addition to this lens you still need a zoom type 10-24 or a fixed wide angle to use normal filters I would say indispensable for those who take photography landscapes. Another note: with the Capture One program setting without automatic correction you can pull the angle further especially at 8 mm the photo much wider still unfortunately only with Capture One possible. I would say normal if it will have a side light flare can cause large frontal lens. If to recommend this optics I would not know too big and bulky lacks a serious alternative 8/9 mm fixed optic of Fuji quality perhaps very difficult to build and very high price no one would buy it. Although for my part small criticisms it is not possible to build in a different way or full satisfaction of this optics especially with regard to sharpness angles.

Pros: Sharpness at every focal and diaphragm, top construction.

Cons: Nothing to me.

Opinion: Extraordinary goal! If we think of the focal points and the constant opening, the price, weight and footprint are easy to understand. I come from years of using the 10-24, a zoom that I loved very much and that gave me enormous satisfaction, but I have to admit that this 8-16 is of a sueriore category. Mandatory, if one uses them, the non-indefatigable expense for suitable slab filters, but I think if one wants to get the most out of a zoom in certain photo scopes the 8-16 is the perfect choice.
