Pros: Inexpensive - second hand, with 18-55 lens, only EUR 500 (2018).

Cons: Battery life only 150-200 shots. Very time consuming to set up and shoot. Kit lens 18-55 useless for any 'close up' work. Impossible to set the camera from full manual to full auto in less than one minute.

Opinion: I bought this camera to step up from our older Nikon P7800 (a compact camera). I could afford an X-T2 but wanted to test something similar from Fuji before spending big money on the camera to use for my future work. After one month shooting these two cameras side by side I still get better images from our Nikon compact. I have seen some great images taken with X-T1 on many websites but now I am sure these images have been very seriously processed. So if you want to spend your life playing with Photoshop, this is the camera to get. I will still keep it and learn more and maybe I will be happier with it in the long run. But I may as well say good bye to Fuji and to any other mirrorless camera. Today top shelf compacts with large sensors are far easier to shoot and give equally good images. Edit late September 2018: After a lot and lot of trial and error - now I can get the camera to outperform much older much cheaper Nikon compact. Image quality is clearly MUCH BETTER than I assumed earlier. It just takes so much time to get used to all the too many dials, switches and buttons. This camera is completely NOT like any real retro camera I used to own (e.g. an Olympus OM-1, among many others.) I also found that the AF system is only good with some newer lenses (like the kit zoom) but it is absolutely abysmal with some R lenses (e.g. 35 1.4R). I am yet to find if this is because of the lens or because of the camera. I will report as I test more. Corresponding lenses are easily 100% more expensive than comparable Canon or Nikon lenses. They are very difficult to re-sell when you upgrade your kit.

It's suitably small, and with a good lens which in my case is a 35mm, you can take pretty good shots. Honestly, in printing this sensor is the best of all. I can recognize with the naked eye which xt1 is among other photographs taken by other cameras. And this says a lot. A very obvious flaw, in my opinion, is the lack of resolution at low iso. Let me explain. It churns out files all in all of 5mb which are not bad in terms of resolution but, in my opinion, at low iso it could do more. The difference in resolution with the raw file is very noticeable. If, on the other hand, the iso is raised from 1600 onwards, the machine offers excellent files. Maybe a little noisy by today's standards but certainly great for 13x18 or 20x30 printing. For those who want to take advantage of the 16mpx at low iso is forced to use the software that fuji offers because only in that case you will have (more or less) the correct film simulations. You can also use other software but you will always have the problem of not having its film simulations. Too bad Fuji hasn't given me a worthy successor yet. If on this sensor,in 2025 they had put a more accurate algorithm for low iso on resolution (faster processor),availability on film profiles for other software and a fast autofocus.... well.... I would start to evaluate. To date all this has not happened and I believe it will never happen. Needless to say, Af is slow. It's not one of the worst but it's quite slow. Not to mention Continuous AF. Unusable in my opinion. Although I must say, studied well on horizontal movements he did not hurt in a football match. The colors it produces are beautiful, it is pleasant to use the film simulations that allow you to avoid the RAW pp or to do it directly in the camera (it is the biggest miss I feel with the Sony). Up to 3200 ISO holds up very well, but I also use it at higher ISOs, without problems. AF that suffers from the years, but allows you to do almost everything, except sports and avi, I use it as always in AF-S (the continuous is quite slow). The biggest flaw is the build quality, in particular the tires that come unglued and wear out: a shame because aesthetically it is beautiful with its rings. Unfortunately, she is also affected, an old woman, by the upward race in the prices of the ML Fuji and today she finds herself at rather high prices. When I got it, I paid less than €300 used in excellent condition. If you find it bargain, take it!
