Pros: • Outstanding autofocus even in low light • More than sufficient image quality despite 24 MP resolution • Class-leading ergonomics and solidity • Impressive burst and responsiveness

Cons: At the moment I have not found any

Opinion: I recently bought a Canon R1, coming from a Canon R5 Mark II, convinced that I had already found the best for my needs. I state that I am not a professional photographer, but an enthusiast who ranges between still life, landscape, portrait. The R1 surprised me positively. Although the choice of this camera is often linked to its incredible autofocus speed and lightning-fast burst, I found it exceptional even in low light conditions. The autofocus really works perfectly even when the lighting is not optimal, and despite the resolution of "only" 24 megapixels, the image quality is more than sufficient for my prints up to A2 format and for use in catalogs and on the web. In terms of handling, build quality, and ease of use, the R1 really represents a quantum leap from any other camera I've used so far. Combined with high-end Canon lenses, it delivers results that make me absolutely satisfied.

Pros: It's a Canon flagship! In this all its PROs.

Cons: Currently not detected

Opinion: Taken as soon as it landed in Italy in November 2024, (after giving up the 1DX MK III and 7 stratospheric lenses) to have only one system: the MIRRORLESS. I won't hide the fact that I was sorry to get rid of the last DSLR flagship Canon produced, but the R1 represents the future of PRO flagships. Coupled with their little sister R3 they represent for me the best that technology can make available to me. My work ranges in very different areas: from fast sports such as football and basketball; to horseback riding up to the ceremony and photojournalism. In each of these work sectors he is able to offer me the best solutions to facilitate my work. In the studio then, with two exceptional lenses such as the RF 85 mm. f. 1.2 DS and the 50 mm, also RF 1.2, is unrivaled in focusing the eye of the subject (especially children who are frantically agitated) at maximum aperture. Three years of R3 have meant that with the new flagship, everything is where it needs to be and the familiarity is perfect. I am not going to list all the improvements that distinguish her from her younger sister, but they are many and important. When four years ago Canon managers obsessively told us that the R3 was NOT the flagship, they weren't entirely wrong. Although at first glance it might have looked like an R3 MK II, this is actually a much better camera. Vote 10!

Pros: Reactive, detailed, full-bodied... a beast.

Cons: Cost, but worth it.

Opinion: The feeling was immediate thanks to the brief experience with the R3. In a crude way it could be defined as an R3 with the improvements of the R5 Mark II (in this case the pre-shot is set to C3 button) and the new cross sensor that enhances even more the details that were already very good in its younger sister. So I could say that the transition was not traumatic even if to be honest, in the first shots it looked similar to the R3 (in the car display) but opening them calmly on the computer the difference comes out. At iso 12800 or 6400 the performance is very good. Excellent grip, even more responsive than the R3 and R5mk2. The files are excellent and light and the management of the menu for those coming from the other Rs is almost identical down to the smallest detail, the difference is found in the final file and you can see it. Typical Canon color management, for me the best. Also on this as in the R5 mk2 the photo style settings for jpegs are very sensitive but efficient. Used immediately for two external events, it did not disappoint expectations at all, on the contrary, it is beastly compared to the R3; What is certain is that the weight is felt after a while but it is excellently balanced with any lens. Finally a double ultra-performing CFexpress slot and this alone can ensure me more than one service per day and the peace of mind of back-up on a second card that has no equal. The convenience of the usb-c connection with the ipad and the battery charge through the same device that would be convenient in different situations remains unchanged. An excellent camera that has elevated the shooting experience in any context, from the photographic studio to the outdoors. Compared to the R3, the management of the flash is better as it was for the R5mk2, with the Godox dialogues wonderfully, thanks to the new electronics. Docking in dim light is even more efficient. The sensor readout is more instantaneous at high speed, and the flash more responsive, a subtle difference that only R3 owners would notice if they tried it. The sensitivity of the AF-ON sliders is much more pronounced. Much larger and more responsive buffer. Even where the flash is not used (for environmental and performance reasons) it is a spectacle on its own. Obviously for outdoor shots it is unrivaled in terms of hooking, performance and general maneuverability. Basically, I'm a lamp-runner, but I think that with this flagship, habits will be changed for the better. The LP-E19 is always great, so far after about 1600 shots it still has 60% charge. The viewfinder is large and of absolute comfort including the articulated screen; blackout issues in the burst EVF are a thing of the past. _.......................................... update....... _ I continue to work on the photos and I have to confirm what several Pros have said, the difference of the 24mpx of this R1 with the 45mpx of the others is only in the heaviness of the file, the resolution produced has nothing to envy to bigmegapizzas. If you want to cut your hair, I leave this to the exaggerated crops and anyway I tried the upscaling on demand (at least twenty times) and I must say that it is much more effective than any external software. Grade 10 laude.

Pros: Stacked CMOS sensor, new Digic Accelerator processor, Exceptional focus, Stunning viewfinder, Image upscaling

Cons: for me no one

Opinion: After 8 long years in the pleasant company of my 1DX Mark II I made the fateful transition from the reflex to the mirrorless. I waited, but in the end I think I was right. Today, this R1 is truly something extraordinary!! technologically advanced, precise, fast, it has everything you could expect from a Canon 1 series. The new 24.2 MP stacked CMOS sensor is lightning fast and has 100% AF coverage with cross-type sensors. What more could you ask for? And here comes the new Digic Accelerator coprocessor to further improve the R1's focusing capabilities. Honestly, I haven't tested the eye-controlled AF, the pre-continuous shooting mode and the in-camera image processing with artificial intelligence yet, I'm not ready yet and the jump between the 1DX Mark II and the R1 is huge. And thank goodness that I only take photos and leave out the video, because from what I've read it boasts some specifications to be scared... The camera body and the location of the controls are excellent, weighing about 500 grams less than the 1DX Mark II. What amazed me was the viewfinder that appears larger than previous Canon cameras and remarkably bright. The storage department with the 2 CFexpress Type B card slots that support up to 2TB is satisfactory. Ethernet and USB-C connectivity is always present and the LP-E19 battery is the same as my previous camera. I have read a lot of controversy about the launch of this flagship, but I consider them completely useless ... Thank you Canon, great job!!
