Pros: Manageable weight, very sharp from F/5.6, fast AF on my Nikon D500 and Nikon D4. Sturdy build. Lens foot/handle is long enough to carry the lens comfortably.

Cons: Shot wide open not too good. Tends to hunt when focussing at 'infinity'. Absorbs heat and cold. That's why I use a lens cover.

Opinion: I will never part with this lens and definitely will try to find a used one when this one should break. I found mine in mint condition for a fair price. I have been using this lens on Nikona camera's: D800, D500 and D4. It needed a little fine tuning on the D500. Due to the weight I can easily carry this lens with a carbon-fiber monopod and tilthead all day. I also use it on a tripod, but most of the times I use this lens handheld. I use my elbows or knee for stabilisation. This works out great for me. Addendum: Had this lens serviced by Sigma the other day. They replaced the PCB (Print Board) in the lens with an upgraded version and then adjusted the focus mechanism (also in the lens). From F/5 the lens now is already very sharp. Even at F/4.5 it does not disappoint, but that is hard when shooting handheld.

Pros: compared to the corresponding Canon / Nikon, excellent sharpness by f5 on, autofocus speed, size and weight still manageable. on my D7000 i use it at 6.3 and find it very sharp auto focus is fast

Cons: Lack-stabilizer-Finish improved

Opinion: after looking for 4mths no Australian retailer would get it in so i contacted a ebay trader and had it in 7days and saved heaps i always use it on a tripod and get some great shots its a little bit on the heavey side but i new that before buying the detail that this lens captures is amazing would recomend this lens anyone looking for a long telephoto lens

Pros: Sharpness, price, size and transportability, constrictive quality.

Cons: Noisy Autofocus and requires new cameras

Opinion: Despite that has never made a big fuss, I have purchased for 6 months this lens and I must say that gave me great satisfaction, soft at full aperture becomes sharp already at F/5.6, the autofocus to be fast and accurate, needs the sensor 153 points , on series first is fine but less rapid, except on 750 that goes very well, almost as on D5. Obviously it will not be like the big fixes of the house, but in relation to the price I was really happy. The stabilizer is used to little seen the type of lens that matches well to a tripod or at most a monopod.

Pros: Transport handle in Primis, speed ' AF, used price, size/weight, short lens hood

Cons: Lens hood connection, difficulty with multipliers, AF not precise (on 7dII), barrel paint over time tends to get ruined, not sealed, very poor at F 4.5 and F5

Opinion: I had and frequently used in avifauna for a Emmezzo year. I must say that in general is a fantastic perspective for what it costs and found currently used at 1800 euros is a huge deal. This 500mm used with Canon 7DII is an immense pleasure because it gives great contrasting images and you can ' use it quietly at f 5.6 where it starts to be a blade with 7DII you get so fast and low ISO times, and a focal amount of 800mm (look at my galleries AVIFAUNA)-(https://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=2172161&l=it). Before this sigma 500mm I used the Canon 100-400II and Sigma 150-600 Sport. The conclusions are that the Sigma 500mm used smooth on 7DII is a portent if you eat them all 2 both in speed ' AF and in the contrast of the images after the 33feet away the Sigma 500mm is always u n Step forward. The transport handle is just great to try to believe. The lens is not bilanciatissimo but from shed without tripod being short and lens hood not too long you get a chance ' from the louvers to have a lot of visibility ' on the field framed and the not too much weight helps the maneuverability of the lens in the shifts Always quick to shed without tripod. The connection of the subject on 7dII is very fast but you have to be careful to stay above the 1/2000 and sector well the machine because the AF of the Sigma is a dancer and nervous so they should be adjusted well the AF setting of the machine with which the use. Unfortunately it is not sealed and during the winter I always dressed him with a rain protection to avoid risk. The paint I noticed that over time tends to get ruined and it stains easily, probably Sigma has opted for something cheap. Last note about multipliers. I found a Kenko 1, 4x that worked fine with the 7DII I had 1120mm of pure quality ' starting from F 7.1, despite that ' I had an AF anyway fast but less accurate on stuff on the fly while for the static was much better. I am still successful after several tests and knowing well the lens to do with this combination a bittern in flight where the combination has not betrayed me just adjust well the whole. Instead with combination KenKo 1, 4x and Canon 5d3 I had trouble locking machine due to AF adjustment. With this combination it is necessary to disable the fine adjustment of the AF otherwise the machine will lock and to unlock it you have to remove the battery. With 5D4 instead being newer the combination does not work at all (tested with Canon 1, 4x III and Kenko Pro 300 1, 4x). Ultimately a lens that taken at the moment to 1800 euros on ASPC is really a super deal that will give you great satisfaction. On 5d3 smooth It is a bit short but from Stakeout offers an outstanding ' quality ' file and reminding you that it is very bright compared to the various Sigma and Tamron zooms which as main lens I don't consider considering the price and qualities of the Sigma 500mm

Pros: Af speed, used price

Cons: Does not digest dense sensors, short eyepiece, with low temperatures the AF speed decreases, it can hardly be duplicated.

Opinion: Used a lot and what I understand is not good with dense sensors, with d610, d700 and d300 is a blade, but on d7200 it shows all its limits in terms of resolution. It is a glass that honestly does its work but does not ask for the moon. I also noticed a dramatic reduction in af speed at low temperatures. The duplicators can be used but not Sigma, the Nikon is good, but the famous dent on the bayonet has to be folded, however, because the yield should be said to expire a lot.
