Opinion: Exceptional lens, I use practically only that in my photo shoots (wedding, communions/confirmations, baptisms) it is the standard lens. Purchased to use it on the Nikon D700, now on the D800. Fast, I don't feel the need for stabilization, the right sharpness to photograph people and precise autofocus, it has never given me problems.

Opinion: Really high-performance lens, beautiful colors and beautiful blur (mounted on D850). The mechanics are a big disappointment: after very careful use (no shots, always stored vertically, ...) and 5000-6000 photos, the zoom got stuck halfway, unusable from 24 to 50. Sent for assistance where they fixed a blocked helicoid. I had been assured that the problem with the VR version would not occur (unlike the non-VR version where it is an unfortunately common problem) and instead... I resold it attaching the certification of the intervention under warranty and I went back to the fixed 1.4. A real shame, the photos rendered are gorgeous, perhaps a bit heavy to carry around, but all widely expected. The work of the VR superb. A real shame for the construction that inherits some problems from the non-VR version.

Worthy of note, in my opinion, is the idea of the bayonet mount directly on the objective barrel instead of on the ring of the front lens: it gives the sensation of increasing the general tropicalization. Nothing to envy to so many fixed lenses. Super recommended for those looking for versatile optics without sacrificing quality
