Pros: Light, sharp, good bokeh

Cons: VR disappoints around 1/60-1/125 (but works well at 1/30)

Opinion: Not much to add to the many reviews. Since I switched to mirrorless, the somewhat disappointing VR has become a secondary matter. Concerning the bokeh, while not the best (if compared to the 85/1.4 for instance), I was pleasantly surprised, with fore- and background bokeh equally nice and the absence of nasty fringes. I've tried to add a sample shot.

Pros: Versatile, addictive, weight, sharpness.

Cons: Noticeable drop in sharpness, combined with the Nikon TC-14E III in distances greater than 9m.

Opinion: This lens is simply my favorite of all those I have used. It's not the best, but it's so convenient to use! I use it relentlessly since its purchase. On FX, it allows portrait and street events for details. On DX, it allows the sport and the animal. On DX + TC-14E III, it covers the birds, although a little short and it loses 1 Diaph. Regarding the sharpness, I would say that it depends on several factors. From 1m40 to 3m, in proxy mode, with or without TC-14E III, on FX or DX, it's "Razor Sharp". And it's amazing to be able to photograph flying insects with such ease. (see my gallery) From 3m to 9m, according to my many tests, it is excellent, but especially without the TC-14E III, because with, the loss of sharpness is in my opinion quite noticeable. From 9m to 25m (but this is only my experience in the field), it becomes more average, because I think the image is significantly degraded by the multiplier. At the infinite, even a castle in clear weather for example, with multiplier, I would be much more critical on the quality of the image rendered. Of course, an AF setting is to consider and can really make the difference. (for me: D500 + 300PF + TC -1.4 = +6 AF). In comparison, I think that the AF adjustment of the Sigma by the dock is much more interesting, because it takes into account at least 4 key distances (16 for a zoom). Regarding the stabilizer, I find it very effective until 1/200. But it depends on each photographer and his ability not to add unnecessary shaking. ;) In conclusion, I would say that I find it EXTRAORDINARY. However, if you want to photograph small birds, make sure you have an approach as discreet as possible, because mounted on DX with multiplier X1.4, it gives 630mm, fully usable freehand ... but it is a bit short :(

Pros: Weight

Cons: Bit of a mixed bag with converters

Opinion: Recently purchased this lens as a welcome addition to my much heavier 300mm F/2.8 VR. I love this lens on either an APS-C or a fullframe camera. It's so much fun carrying a 300mm lens that weighs about the same as a 24-70mm F/2.8. IQ is great when stopped down a bit. When shooting wide open there is little DOF to work with. The 300mm seems to handle the 1.4 TC pretty well. When making use of the limiter there is not muching slowing down on the AF-speed. My 300mm lens seems to do best wide open (F/6.7) when using the 1.7 TC. In really low light situations I will still be using the much faster 300mm F/2.8 lens, but this beauty comes to use in almost every other situation.

Pros: Lightness, sharpness in the center

Cons: Always use with the lens hood to avoid flare Non-portrait Bokeh

Opinion: For those who are not in a fixed position in the shed this is the best tele, it weighs as much as a 70-300 AFP (which is also wonderful optics), this gains a bit in everything, sharpness, colors, AF, construction. I use it exclusively for naturalistic and at f5.6 it produces spectacular results (in the RAW camera you recover a lot of detail and you can reduce noise). Its size and weight make it very quick to use for animals in flight, it does not tire at the neck and balances perfectly with full frame bodies, the lens hood is the usual plastic but also attaches well to the reverse. The bokeh is not 85 1.4 because of the PF lenses, tried on portraits but it does not render, on the other hand it is a jewel for naturalistics. The 500 PF does everything even better but the weight (although record-breaking) unfortunately does not make it suitable for traveling photography, and for those like me who do not stay still for a moment the 300 is the right choice EDIT: after 3 years I replaced the 500 PF (a CRAZY lens) and for hiking I use an even lighter 70-300 AFP

Pros: Weight, minimum focal length, and good af

Cons: in some cases chromatic aberrations

Opinion: For a couple of years I was undecided whether to buy it or not, always postponing the purchase having the 200-500 in my lens park. Now that I have both I'm thinking of selling the 200-500 for too much weight. it is not for me and my photography. So let's go back to the 300mm, bought from RCE Vicenza (non-nital guarantees) used for € 990 in mint condition. I immediately fell in love with it, I'm almost sorry to leave it at home given its low weight, (for me it's its biggest advantage, you forget about having it around your neck or in your backpack) Other positive things are the minimum focal length of 1.4 meters and a good af. One thing I don't like is that in some cases I find chromatic aberrations. But I consider it one of the best purchases I have made, my expectations have not been repaid but far exceeded. Rating: 9-
