Pros: A great goal, professional.

Cons: The weight.

Opinion: I am a Nikonist amateur photographer, I own 2 ff Nikon D610 a 24/120 f/4.0 a 28/300 f/3.5 and finally the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 G ED VR purchased used but in perfect condition, what about a great lens (even if 'weighs umpo'), fast focus, silent, at 2.8 blurred are wonderful, excellent sharpness of the subject, For me that I have always shot with the 24/120, this is the top.

Pros: Construction, optical quality overall, interesting blurry, vr, 1.4x duplicable with great quality, fast and accurate af.

Cons: vignetting (?) at the edges on some focal lengths very annoying, loses several millimeters of focal length in close focus; lens hood.

Opinion: It is one of the optics that I use the most, for everything. It is definitely a lens with truly professional finishes, indestructible, very well finished and built; it is heavy enough to be a professional goal. It's good for everything from landscape to portrait to sports. The blurred is particular, to me it seems abrupt in the separation of the planes, but it has its own reason that makes it particular compared to the previous 80-200 2.8, especially compared to the bighiera that I had and that for me was beautiful but outdated in terms of autofocus. The only really sore note, the vignetting at the edges .... annoying, very intrusive and sometimes even difficult to correct: my specimen suffers a lot. Another "neo", in my experience: the hood; although it has the lock and an unlock button like the 24-70, honestly to me it fell more than on some occasions, ruining itself (with the 24-70 it never happened to me). It is a professional perspective and therefore it is very versatile, it is legitimate to expect a lot also as an AF performance, which does not disappoint me neither on d3 nor on d810. Among other things, it is fully compatible with CT , both with the 1.4x and with the 2.0x. For me it is a very good goal, with some small limits on which, however, we can work; if you do not need a "modern" AF performance the 80-200 bighiera in my opinion is a better compromise for those who do not want to spend a fortune on the new FL. It is located at much more affordable prices than the 70-200 VR II which still retains some limitations. Goal definitely recommended!

Pros: Excellent and very pleasant on DX at all focal points (on FF up to 170/180 mm) exciting colors, plastic details, half tones of supreme elegance on the moraine bumps and snowy peaks, at the passage of the clouds pushed by the wind, or at the movement of the snow itself. Sumptuous images of fluid dynamics (and fur on the front legs of marmots).

Cons: It was produced taking into account only the DX format, then the only format existing in Nikon, which did not include FF, and the analog 35mm. It was then found to be poor on digital FF (D800E) from about 170/180 mm up, for edges and above all spatula angles (always with the Nikon D800E, in a comparison, for what it is worth, at 180 mm, in the center his images seemed even slightly sharper than those of the Leica R 180 apo telyt, at the edges he knocked them soundly, for his own demerit). It can be said that it was an exemplary case of entrepreneurial short-sightedness (not to mention exemplary case of Japanese Sola L. (Carl.), taxon quite frequent in nature).

Opinion: See above. I took several of the photos I like the most, both in DX and FF. Now he's always at home, especially for the weight, I bring a 100 macro and a 25 for the close-ups of alpine flora and a 35, all metallic. But I miss a focal point around 200 mm, I am thinking of a famous German fixed compact and not too heavy. However, it would not be in good taste to name it here, I tried it one day in the mountains, I do not know if above the tree line it will give me the same emotions as the 70-200 2.8 that maybe will continue to be missed. I can always pick it up from the window, we will see how the (le) ecocardiocolordoppler and ecg will proceed. Anyway, I'm not going to buy another 70-200 2.8.

Pros: Construction, VR, AF, sharpness to f2.8.

Cons: Nothing outrageous.

Opinion: I was looking for a 70-200 f2.8 in good condition... I had both the f4 little brother and the 80-200 bihiera. This is just from another planet. Sharp at maximum opening, stabilized enough and built in an excellent way. Weight for me is not a problem, indeed, from a feeling of solidity. Used with D4 and D810 goes a wonder. The only sore note, if you can say so, is the backlit yield (with sun in the lens) that makes the image veiled, but nothing that can not be corrected in PP. Moreover, a rare case in the digitized era in the extreme, it has a flare, which gives the photos a special touch. To those who think it's a dated optics, I'm just saying try it first. With less than a thousand euros, you take home a professional Nikon canvas and not a third-party one resulting in AF problems.

Pros: Robustness, AF, brightness, tropicalization, bokeh

Cons: For my level and aspiration nothing

Opinion: Purchased with swap used at a great price. Despite the age of the lens aesthetically looks good. Very solid, a bit heavy but could not be otherwise seen the materials with which it is built. Excellent manual focus ring, smooth and precise, that of the focal a bit less fluid and less linear towards the extremes, 70mm and 200mm, but by safety anyway. The buttons (AF/M, VR ON/OFF, VR Normal/active, focus limiter) are duretti but precise and safe. Tested in the halls not always well lit (basket). Incredible results (compared to what I could do with the AF-S 70-300 or Col 18-140 or even with the fixed 105mm 2.8). Rapid and precise Autofocus. I managed to shoot smoothly at 1/800s with F/2.8 aperture (or f/3.2) and ISO acceptable to my sensor (with ISO = 2000 in PP increase some exposure without curing too much noise reduction, for ISO from 2500 to 3200 I apply the NR correction). The PDC is fine even with f/2.8 (I was afraid it was too narrow but you can focus on the subjects and with good margin front/rear) and then I take advantage to reduce shutter speeds and freeze movements (the balloon does not travel fast in basketball). On ISO I do not go beyond the values described before otherwise the noise can not handle it adequately. Also tested for birdlife (with obviously not too distant subjects, focal 200mm) and sharpness with extraordinary details. Natural colors not saturated. Blurred for beautiful background. I hardly ever use the VR and therefore it is not a problem the fact that it is first generation. No doubt the best lens I own and paid little indeed. Very satisfied.
