Pros: Excellent clarity when compared to price, compactness

Cons: nothing

Opinion: Excellent lens if used for the use for which it was designed. It provides very good results by barely closing the diaphragm, although it is by no means to be despised at all openness. It has high distortion, especially at minor focal lengths, easily corrected in Lightroom. Excellent device that, in the rest position, reduces its footprint, although it can cause a slight delay in readiness if it needs to be unlocked.

Pros: good image quality all round

Cons: all in 'plastic' and a bit coarse look

Opinion: I have owned two, and it is a very good lens, of economic workmanship but with a yield always excellent even to the most open diaphragms. I went out of my way to prove - to myself - that it was 'poor' but despite all the comparisons I made I showed nothing, indeed ... I came to the opposite judgment. Even all the images taken over the years are always valid. Its flaws are: the somewhat coarse appearance, the plastic bayonet, the front lens that rotates during focus and complicates the use of the polarizer, and finally the fact that it is a bit 'dark' that I do not think is a limit to photograph in poor light, but unfortunately greatly limits the possibility of working on the blurry. In my opinion and on the basis of past experience, although it has long employed even DX lenses considered 'top' I can only say that this lens is a very valid choice for anyone, not just amateur. The average grade 7.7 is really undeserved, a nice 9 is all there is.

Pros: Lightness, general quality, dimensions.

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: It is my first review, and I make it precisely for this so criticized optics, but in my opinion genius. Using Machine Pro, D750, D3s, in addition to XT2, Sony... I do professional work, so I'm not a novice. I've always discarded it because only a 18/55, then plastic... If I have to get out I take better optics. Well, just this is his strength, lightness and quality of his files. Today you are looking for mirrorless to reduce clutter and weight and then you criticize an optics like this. Today I tested it with a D200 at 2000 meters altitude under a crazy snow. Completely wet. The XT2 also with me I left it in the bag. I didn't trust you. The D200 but especially this 18/55 completely soaked did not flinch. I did all the service without any problem. Yet it is not weather sealed. Just the fact of being small, light and plastic has made its strength. So I wonder, maybe Nikon had seen us away but no one understood. I started from the D200 and from 18/55 and then come back after many years.

Pros: quality / price ratio, sharpness, aberrations and distortions contained

Cons: evident constructive and perceived quality

Opinion: In hand the idea of ??a delicate product, very light and economical plastics. However, it is more robust than it seems and has made rapid and very precise focus. The range offered is ideal for any use: from landscapes to reportage, from portraits half-length at some macros with compromises. Compromises are not due to the sharpness which is very high considering the range in which it is located and the purchase price but mostly for the reproduction ratio. It provides the macro function but has a minimum focusing distance enough thrust and results in images that are closer to the higher end objectives. The sharpness is fairly constant at all focal lengths with a slight loss of sharpness and contrast in bright situations. However it does not suffer from the backlight (good lens ED) and aperture returns the sunshine on a beautiful star. A slight loss of sharpness over apertures f16 and a minimum of chromatic aberration (on Nikon D40, for other bodies have not tried yet) in anyand limit contrast situations but really almost imperceptible and easily recoverable. The clarity you have about a stop and a half above the maximum aperture but already at TA returns sharper images than many much more expensive lenses. Missing VR but from what I read around it seems to be the clearest stabilized counterpart. PS: do not underestimate the extensibility of focus, I scratched the lens slightly because the focus moves much from the objective proportions.

Pros: Lightweight, value for money, great sharpness, even at TA, focal length range ideal for reportage

Cons: Quality construction ... point!

Opinion: I use it often as a lens to do everything when I travel, together with the 55-200. I think it's an exquisite quality considering that I purchased for only 50euro ...! The distortion at 18mm is contained. Obviously, if you search for the perfection and brightness, we must inevitably turn to "champion" top of the range Nikon house.
