Opinion: It is a zoom with a very usable focal range, which allows you to go up to 400mm freehand (and you can also multiply!). Moreover, unlike other brands, the diaphragm does not rise above f5.6, maintaining weights and dimensions within more than acceptable areas. I can say that it is "almost" a lens to always carry in the backpack without getting too tired, and counting on an excellent quality of materials and coatings. It is designed to work hard and in any weather condition, with great sharpness in all focal lengths and lightning-fast focus. Surely on some occasions it would be nice to have an f4, but the Z cameras manage well the high iso and the "lightness" always forces some compromise, you know. Despite the not exactly fast opening, however, it manages to return a homogeneous and pleasant shade (considering its limits) and with the right light you can also get good outdoor portraits. Having to use only one adjective to define it I would say: FUN! I add a note - With little light (like after sunset) there are some difficulties with focusing on Z6/Z7 (but I think it's normal). The system fails to hook well to 400mm, on small subjects. On Z9 I don't know but I guess there are no problems.

With the z9 it is the best I can afford at this stage (I exclude x now the extreme fixed), however very satisfied, I almost always use it with monopod, but also free hand is manageable, and well balanced. I kept it glued in South Africa x 20 days to the z9 and I also appezzato in the night Safari sessions, sure I had an extra diaphragm I would have had some Iso less to manage in pp. In fact the brightness is the only flaw, if combined with the 2x still acceptable with TC 1.4 x.
