Pros: Impeccable construction, brightness (and therefore multipliability), focus breathing among the best in the "supertele" zoom landscape.

Cons: Yield over long distances

Opinion: I have had almost all those that are called "supertele" (from 300mm on) but this is an optic from which it is difficult to separate due to its extreme versatility (today "lives" in my kit with the Nikon 500 f4 VR and with the 500 f5,6 PF). I have often used it also as a "macro-like" obtaining more than some satisfaction: https://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?l=it&t=2222572 and https://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=2222574&l=it. Its weaknesses are the yield to medium-long distances and the quality of its blurred which, by virtue of the number of lenses, is not comparable, especially in certain conditions, to that of a fixed of even focal but versatility involves the acceptance of some compromise. I often read that it is compared with various other optics such as The Sigma zoom, Tamron and often also with the Nikon 200-500. The latter I assure you that they play in another league. On yield with multipliers you should always consider that we are talking about a 24 elements (in 17 groups) and therefore I would not recommend to go beyond the TC17 even if my most popular shot in this forum was made with the TC20 https://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?l=it&t=1055549. But in that case it was about virtue necessity. To those who complain about weight, I would point out that "weight" and "quality" go hand in hand. Anyone who would like to have further details about my experience with this view can contact me in private. As far as I can I'm at Vs. disposition

Pros: Flexibility, brightness, construction, used price, relatively compact

Cons: Many have marked weight as defect, in fact more than the end weight in itself I consider the balance not optimal, the weight is all moved forward.

Opinion: I got hold of it now a year ago, used first on d600 then on d500 and now occasionally on the 850. Very versatile lens, it is not a feather but it is not even exaggeratedly heavy, what tired in freehand use in my opinion are not the 3.3kg but the balance, the weight is all towards the front lens. The autofocus is fairly fast, a middle ground between my 150-600 sigma c and the 500 Fl. On the d500 is reborn, the absence of the AA filter greatly improves its performance. Despite his age, vr works well. It has a great value for money, the first version is used between 1800 and 2200 euros

Pros: Sharpness, flexibility, autofocus speed, construction.

Cons: Nothing. For sure the 3.200 kg. Weight are felt, but on optics of this level and openness is to be expected.

Opinion: Exceptional lens. With the D500 becomes a 300-600 very pleasant to use. Given the weight, it needs a solid tripod or at least a sturdy monopod to pull out the maximum. Loss of focus speed and definition with the TC 14eii virtually irrelevant. Superb contrast, splendid rendition at all openings, and there is virtually no degradation of image quality as the focal length grows.

Pros: Sharpness, definition, MAF speed, flexibility

Cons: Weight

Opinion: An excellent lens of great quality whose price of the used allows the purchase without completely fauning. The main quality lies in the brightness combined with being a zoom, and therefore great flexibility. The quality seems to me better to the court and medium distances compared to the subjects close to infinity or in any case over fifty meters. Stable at various focal lengths. Excellent the MAF and good tightness to duplicators, often indispensable for birdlife. It is possible to use it freehand, but of course for a short time and in proportion to its own "musculature"; In this case zoom is not entirely immediate. Of course, the weight is the main limit. A personal opinion, not everyone shared (see discussion on the forum), is that the differences from the 200 500 of the same house are significant and, of course, except the weight, all in favor of this lens, not by chance much more expensive. Recommended.

Pros: Sharpness, versatility, autofocus, construction.

Cons: Weight, weight........

Opinion: Bought used by 5 months, fantastic lens sharp already at F4 does not lose almost anything multiplied with TCII 1.4 x both in sharpness and speed AF, perfect for photographic hunting thanks to the versatility of the zoom. Built like a tank but the weight is felt. Not I have monthly the VR because I disable it always because I use it exclusively with the tripod. Unfortunately for back problems I have to sell it, I ordered the Nikon 500 mm PF I hope the quality is equal to any of the 200-400.
