Opinion: Ordered for Nikon Z50 two days before the official release of the new Nikkor Z Micro 35mm f/1.7 DX. I was tempted to cancel the order to buy the Nikon, but I didn't. The price, in fact, is 1/3 of the Nikkor, which has a greater weight and footprint and the macro function did not interest me for this focal length. It turned out, like other Viltrox lenses I already own, to be a little gem of Chinese technology, offered at an incredible price. On my Nikon Z50 it fits perfectly with minimal footprint and weight. Excellent sharpness even at T.A. (f/1.7) in the center, beautiful bokeh, thanks to the 9-blade rounded diaphragm. Despite being proposed as an entry-level lens, the optical design is respectable with 1 ED "Low dispersion" lens, 2 "High refractive index" lenses and 1 aspherical lens. Good quality metal bayonet with USB-C socket for any firmware updates and lens hood that, even folded, allows manual MF. The only flaws: autofocus a bit slow in poor lighting conditions, but perfectly manageable in normal light, not tropicalized (but for a 35/52mm I don't need it) and with a bit of vignetting at TA, which I even find pleasant for portraits. Honestly, they are venial sins compared to the benefits this lens offers. Rating 9.5-10

An extremely sharp lens from 2.8 to 5.6 reaches the maximum even at the edges, at full aperture it is credibly sharp, on the other hand it has a blur a bit fake I don't know how to define it does not excite me. For the price it is worth at least double its value, it has rather cold tones. There are no colored fringes and flares but you have to look for the sun on purpose. Overall very good, the perceived quality is good.

The image quality is excellent, good sharpness, good colors, excellent flare management, I didn't even see any relevant aberrations or distortions. The autofocus is average, fast but a little noisy, nothing terrible though. I highly recommend it especially for those who have a small and light camera body and want something that they don't even feel the weight of.
