Opinion: Everything has been written about this lens, especially by those who - not wanting to bear the outlay - try to convince themselves. And so we read about some users who prefer the poor cousin f/4 or other stuff from tamron, or others who complain about its excessive weight although it weighs 250 grams less than the previous 24-70 VR Nikon F mount. Not to mention the many who complain about the price. Yet objectively Nikon has explained well from the beginning the trend of the Z lenses: there are the cheap, the tamron-derived and finally the S, and the latter play in a league of their own, no one in their right mind and with a fine palate would ever compare them to the other two series. And our Z 24-70 f/2.8 is no exception, it was designed to be first in class and it does just fine! Although more compact and lighter than the 24-70 that preceded it, it manages to unleash performance that other brands can only dream of. Extremely sharp from edge to edge but its sharpness is "lively", not sterile and cold and the bokeh (for what the aperture allows...) is mellow and very pleasant, the colors vivid and bright. It solves the sensor of my Z9 but when I feel like it, in light releases, it also ennobles that of the ZF. The three-dimensionality here is really high-level, the subject portrayed "comes out" of the photo and to appreciate what I say just a double-blind comparison with the 24-70 f/4 or with the various tamron-nikons. An added bonus, it doesn't have VR. And I say advantage because Nikon is certainly not famous for the longevity of its VRs (and someone would also add that of the AF motors of the lenses just barely heavy). Never mind, the stabilizers on the Z sensors still do their dirty work, and they do it really well, with Z9 I often use it up to 1/15 of a second. In conclusion: do you like beautiful pieces of optics and mechanics, the eternal ones that every time you view a file produced by them you find yourself with an idiotic smile on your face? Well, then the Z f/2.8 is the 24-70 for you (indeed, for us!), spend that money light-heartedly and you won't regret it. After all, coffins with pockets have not yet started to make them...

If you don't need an f/2.8 there is the yummy 24-70 f4 that has a crazy optical quality and weighs only 500g! Many call the 24-70mm f/2.8 Z heavy, but it weighs 100g less than its older brother Nikon AF-S 24-70 f/2.8. It's not little eh... For me this lens is a masterpiece! Fast, extremely sharp at all apertures and focal lengths, focusing distance of only 35cm, colors, three-dimensionality, not to forget the tropicalization etc.etc. Yes, it costs, but it will help you to always bring home a good job ;)

Cons: I would have preferred the 77 filters, but that's it.

Opinion: An extraordinary lens: for sharpness, colors, three-dimensionality, bokeh, general rendering of the images it returns. For me one of the best lenses from Nikon. I also had the F4 version... sharp, for heaven's sake, but also extremely "flat". The 2.8 plays another championship. As I see it, it counts as an entrance ticket to the Z system.
