Pros: Very solid and well built, perhaps between the myriad of 28 - 70 and 24 - 70 f2.8 is not the sharpest or most contrasted or most resolving or most resistant to flare ever, but its overall rendering, its skilful mix of sharpness, contrast, resolution and blur yield make it really very "lovable" ...

Cons: The weight and dimensions, but not even the other f2.8 joke, and of course the well-known problem with the autofocus motor that afflicts many specimens

Opinion: Meanwhile, when you mount it in front of the car you always feel very "safe"... of everything: precise AF (and all in all also fast), always made excellent at any aperture, with the plus that at f2.8 - f3.2 gives an excellent bokeh, worthy of a portrait lens, particularly suitable for portraits set, where the color rendering is really a full span above all the other zooms (bright and not) that I tried. Good zoom range, the 28mm is already a nice wide angle (in spite of those who without the 24 as a starting seems not to be able to live) and at 70mm (a t.a.) you can easily make pleasant portraits "head - shoulders". Clear without having that "surgical" yield not always so pleasant and welcome ... Robust barrel that does not fear some small accidental bottarella. And then.... aesthetically, but also to use, it is really beautiful ... A work of art... only very few other Nikkor lenses (the 105 and 135 f2 DC come to mind) are as pleasant to use and hold. Too bad many specimens are afflicted by a "problematic" AF engine: even mine after a month that remains stationary does not start immediately but requires a quick movement of the AF ring done manually. If you want to take the whim to understand how it would make this optics, but you do not feel like daring to buy for the above, I recommend finding a specimen (not opaque) of Nikkor 35 70 AF 2.8 (which had the perfect AF engine, but is often plagued by opacification) .... : its yield is very similar, although it starts from 35mm and suffers a lot of flare and backlight ... But in optimal conditions even that in my opinion is as remarkable as glass!!!

Pros: colors and contrast, unsurpassed in the portraits set

Cons: Weight, size, AF engine

Opinion: optics that I had sold and then resumed, evaluated with the current parameters comes loser, many defects first of all a fast AF engine but that can break when it begins to whistle and scratch, then weight and size, lack of stabilizer, focal that starts from 28mm and sharpens a hair below the g zoom counterpart. Now rightly you wonder what I started doing again , well even today after so many years remains an unsurpassed zoom for set portraits, focal length 28-70 in this case suitable, the blurry and pastel colors, open shadows with soft contrasts and right sharpness, are a perfect mix that makes any complexion pleasant, ready file without banging in PP even for aged ladies. In this context is in my opinion still the king in the nikon house, vote 10

Pros: High sharpness at TA, Speed and precision AF (even with low lights), Spectacular color yield,Robbusiness and reliability at the top.

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: I have this fantastic zoom for a few years (gray version) Borrowed from a colleague I tried it by chance during a job and at the end of the evening as soon as I saw the files on the monitor I was speechless so I immediately bought one used but held very well, I tried many zooms of this range 24-70 2.8 Nikon also the VR, the Tamron G2 and the Sigma Art ,all very good lenses but none of them gave me that sense of optical quality and total yield that the 28-70 manages to give, compared with several fixed comes out with head held high ! Straconsigliato

Pros: Quality

Cons: Price from new 3,750,000 l.a. high, heaviness.

Opinion: It's a lens to make a scene, to those who have it bigger. Heavy and so he often stayed home. I've done a thousand photos in all of it,. Sold after 10 years and put back about 1000 euros. So it cost me a euro per picture. At 28mm it didn't shine but at 70mm it wasn't bad. It is I think the only af-s that also had the diaframmma. On a constructive level, it was certainly not an Ai-s.

Pros: Sharpness, Chromatic Yield, Robustness, AF...

Cons: Purple halos in some circumstances

Opinion: I've had this lens for over a year, I've been using it on the D800 and now on the Z6. I found it used at a more than advantageous price, in perfect conditions and the autofocus engine never gave the slightest problem. The highlight is sharpness, at all focal points and also at TA. It's an old-fashioned optics, one that gives you the feeling of having "something big" in your hands. And so it is! it's huge and heavy, but it gives you a feeling of the highest quality. The only "flaws" are the absence of VR (which in my case is not a problem, since the Z6 stabilizes via the sensor) and the purple halos when shooting in the backlight, but it is nothing dramatic. I can only recommend it to anyone, in my personal opinion it is a MUST HAVE of every kit.
