Pros: Compact and lightweight, solid

Cons: Not too effective servo AF

Opinion: Used from 2018 to 2024 first by adapting EF lenses (also with speedbooster) then by creating an entire EF-M kit. The quality of the body is very good, despite the minimal size and lightness it is solid and well balanced in the hand (with EF-M lenses, with adapted lenses instead it tends to be unbalanced forward). Decidedly good sensor quality, much better than the 18mpx of the 60D, especially for dynamic range. The isos are also acceptable, especially when working raw with the new AI noise reduction tools. The AF is two-sided, good in single shot a little less in servo, where it still manages to track horizontal but not longitudinal movements with the approaching subject. The locking speed is also not at the highest levels, even less so if you use face recognition. There is also a slight operating delay, noticeable when trying to "freeze the moment", which can be solved by using the burst (a good 7fps) and anticipating the shot. After a bit of getting used to it, the viewfinder also becomes acceptable. So overall a mirrorless of good quality but which suffers a bit from the passage of time, but capable of surprising if it is not required to be too dynamic in terms of capabilities. Now replaced with an R8 (to look for the thrill of FF), but I regret a bit the size of the M kit (especially thinking of the beloved Sigma 56), and if Canon had continued the development I would own an M5 Mark II.

Pros: Materials, articulated screen, intuitive controls, lightness, aesthetics (it's really a nice machine)

Cons: Very slow AF in SERVO mode, hesitation af in low light, low resistance to high iso

Opinion: The Canon M5 I took some time ago for my son and as a spare forklift for me combining it with a Canon EF 70-300 is II nano USM through the EF-M / EF adapter ring. With little weight and very small dimensions I had in my hands a nice combination using an equivalent focal length of 480 mm extremely suitable for non-demanding naturalistic. The image quality was sufficient but not exciting (clearly if I compare it to my mother equipment: R6 + RF 100-500 L). In addition, the AF system in some cases has proved to be out of step with the times. Therefore, my son began to feel the need for a change of camera body. I wanted to please him by taking a more modern R10 (which will also serve me as a forklift). In summary, I have described the M5 in the pros and cons of this review. I would definitely take it for "basic" use but I would not recommend it to an experienced photographer. I also used it with the native EF-M 18-55 is STM for some landscape, in this case nothing to say considering the limits of optics. Positive judgment but for the naturalistic "serious" need more.

Pros: RELIABLE EXCELLENT PHOTO RENDERING

Cons: NOTHING TO BE IN APS-C FORMAT

Opinion: Excellent lightweight SLR, offers high performance at the photographic level, excellent and fast wi-fi. Fast autofocus, very similar to the Canon EOS 200D and EOS 77d I own. You can push it to high iso although I prefer in landscape photos to use the tripod and remote shooting. I also have an Olympus OMD-10 MARK II and I believe that in terms of ergonomics, grip, menu of use and photo quality is inferior to Canon. (Canon uses in any case on mirrorless the APS-C format and not the micro 4:3 as Olympus). Therefore Canon having the largest sensor makes all the difference.

Pros: Size, Weight, excellent quality

Cons: non-4k video, optical park

Opinion: Great machine, I have been using it for a couple of years and I feel very good, the pairing with the 22mm Canon is formidable, compact but powerful. I use it in weddings as a second body with adapter and 50mm to have a narrow and bright optics and it never gave me any problems. The batteries do not have an incredible durability but turning off wifi, touchscreen and continuous autofocus the life lasts. I highly recommend both for those who travel and for those who are at an intermediate level.

Pros: Aesthetics, Grip, Price.

Cons: Sharpness

Opinion: My opinion more than a statement is a reflection, because I was not happy with the quality of the photos and I hope to be denied by those who have more experience than mine. I used the Nikon P7700 previously giving me always beautiful photos and I hoped moving to the M5 to take better photos but this was not the case, indeed I found little sharpness even at close range with the 18-150 and also wanting to be sympathetic with all the limits that can have a all-rounder zoom, I can not justify so much difference with a much older Colpix.
