Pros: Sharpness, blurry, great for wildlife, responsive AF

Cons: Weight, yield at 400mm

Opinion: I was very impressed by the exceptional quality between 200 and 300 really unique with an excellent Bokeh, I do not understand why already at 400 all this uniqueness disappears true that remains very sharp but loses a bit of engraving on long distances just keep it on 350 and the problem does not arise I personally found this thing immediately. The weight is felt should often be kept on a tripod combined with the D850 but not so much is enough to get used to it. Apart from these things it remains a Mr. Objective of unique quality with a very good affuoco mass, optimal for shed fauna. Rating 8/10.

Pros: incredibly incisive at full-opening. extraordinary blur, building materials

Cons: only the weight (but that's not my case)

Opinion: This second version represents an Af-s engine with extraordinary focus speed and a state-of-the-art stabilizer that guarantees up to 3 stops. Let it be clear that it is not a "small" or "light" objective, so it must be managed with the cautions of the case. The purchase price is exorbitant, but pays off largely thanks to results that are well outside common standards. Associated with my d5 works which is a marvel, it is incisive where it is asked, with a blurry that has little to envy to the f/2.8. I read about some decay at 400 mm but honestly, picky as I am, I don't feel like sharing these opinions. To be bought and treated with care, it will pay off widely in every single shot

Pros: Construction, versatility, brightness (to be a zoom), minimum focusing distance

Cons: Optical performance at medium and long distances, blurred

Opinion: I joined the 500 F4 VR this zoom after selling the 300 F 2.8 Mk1 and I use it for a few years. The optical yield to medium and long distances leaves to be desired as well as the blurred but, given the focal length and the number of lenses, I would say that the thing is acceptable. It holds well the TC 14 and discretely the TC17. The TC20 would recommend it just "when you must" as a last resort. Its real strength is the versatility combined with a really good construction. I used it improperly also as "macro-like" and I was not sorry even in this capacity. If I had to choose between this and the 300 F 2.8 vrii I would be in strong doubt between the surrender of 300 (also with TC) and the versatility of the 200-400.

Pros: Construction, optical quality,

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: I have just passed from VR I to VR II, practically the same optics with the most effective stabilizer (the only limit of the VR i), and optical rendering slightly more contraended thanks to the new antireflective treatment. In my opinion it is an exceptional objective in the field of nature and sport. Holds the TC14 well, I do not go over... It makes the best of short-medium distances, beautiful bokeh... built to last.

Pros: Clarity, versatility, build quality, made with TC

Cons: Unbalanced compared to the 300 2.8, cost (as new) in fact is not a 2.8!

Opinion: Got it used in excellent condition, viable alternative to 300 for versatility but still possess even the 300 2.8 for its luminosity, this 200-400 is a boon for travel where you want to go with a single optical (see safari) but have the highest quality. And if you also own a DX body the focal length is reached without moltplicarlo is already 600mm F4. Tested so far only with the TC14 maintains excellent speed AF (with D500 and D5) and an excellent sharpness, smooth instead is a knife. Honestly I would not push him over with the TC17 and the TC20 remember that it is always a zoom. Great fixed the F4 at all focal lengths, which is obviously a 200-500 dreams. Built like a tank can face any storm! The price is really high, but you pay for !!
