Pros: Fantastic optics, robust construction, diaphragm ring, compact size

Cons: Decent autofocus but not great

Opinion: I bought this used camera while I was looking for a quality compact camera that would allow me to rediscover the pleasure of analogue photography to capture everyday moments without excessive clutter and constraints. I have tried many cameras around the same budget (sub 1000€) such as Sigma DP2, Ricoh GR II and III, Fuji X-E2/3, Sony A7 III, Sony RX100 II, but the pleasure I find in the use and performance of this RX1 I cannot find in any other: I find the experience very "analog", and once you accept the limits of a solid but not ultra-advanced technology, You end up with a tool that allows you to enjoy the moment while capturing those special moments without getting in the way. I also had an RX1 mark II in parallel, but in the end I chose to keep the original RX1 as it was less demanding (for the value of the object and for the size of the files) and not too far off in terms of quality. For me it is the definitive choice at the moment, flanked by Ricoh GR III (when I want to limit the dimensions even more). It would be perfect if it had the vari-angle display (like the mark II) and maybe touch focus, which I learned to appreciate with the GR III, but that's okay too. The battery life (a common complaint, and true) is not a limit for me as you just need to bring some supplies, and it is still acceptable for those like me who are looking for a more relaxed and selective and less invasive type of photography.

Pros: Wonderful lens, sturdy and pocket-sized camera body, very good additional viewfinder

Cons: Battery that runs out quickly but above all horror: I had two and both arrived at some point they showed a software error that costs 1100 € to be repaired

Opinion: The camera itself is an excellent camera suitable for journalistic use, street use, with a really fantastic lens and also very bright; the weak point is in reliability; I have had two examples in my life and both suddenly crashed giving a software error; When I tried to solve it and I sent one of these to the service center they asked me 1100 €. So no more Sony RX1

Pros: Compactness - 35mm sensor - Zeiss T* lens - Sonnar optical scheme - superb BW

Cons: I think it's perfect as it is

Opinion: I've been using it for a couple of years, and I find it an exquisite machine. For me it is like an analog camera, that is, it does not have all the functions that you would expect to find in a modern camera, but only those essential to photography. It has a very high quality, it is extremely compact, it has a high quality sensor, and the lens that mounts in front is of an absolute goodness, a Zeiss 35mm T* f2 Sonnar scheme, which allows a detachment and a three-dimensional aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is perfectly usable already at full aperture, and is really bright, as proof of the excellent treatment of the Zeiss that allows you to have a T number iden tico all F. The only flaw is that it does not have the built-in viewfinder, but you can overcome it by using the excellent external EVF that bends at 90 °, very comfortable. The battery life is poor, but even here you can easily remedy by taking other spare ones, so they are tiny. I think it's the ultimate travel camera, and one of my all-time favorites.

Pros: Portability, sensor, lens

Cons: Missing electronic viewfinder

Opinion: I only bought it for a year, but I was amazed by the results. The essential elements are at the top (sensor and lens) everything else passes in second order, although generally respectable as the AF, the yield of the B/N etc. I added the external electronic viewfinder that also gives me the possibility to vary the vision in recovery almost as if I had the basculable LCD. The rendering of colors and in particular the B/N are insurmountable. The only comparable is the leica Q which has different characteristics, but the results are very similar. I note that I have used and used many prestigious machines (leica M9, leica Q, Sony A7r2, Panasonic S1 etc.). Ultimately all that might be missing from the RX1 is the interchangeability of the lenses, but it is justified by the construction tuned sensor-target... like the leica Q or the Fuji X100. In the past, almost all professionals for ceremonies and reports used rolleiflex with a fixed lens!... Greetings Caesar M.

Pros: ergonomics, feeling of solidity, photographic quality, held to high iso, formidable lens, presence of the flash even if "small"

Cons: batteries (little autonomy), absence of the Electronic scope, astronomical price, total absence of firmware updates (always at release 1.0... in 7 years never an update!!!). Display with outdated resolution (although largely sufficient). Track of the busy subjects (it is not the AF its strong point even if it is enough in 99.9% of cases!)

Opinion: Bought several years after its release, I do a review in 2019... 7 years after launch. To put it another way: it was the era of the Panasonic GH3, or the XPro1. It seems like an era has passed! Today, in 2019, I use it (to take photos, for videos there is better if you search species for the 4K that the RX1 does not allow to do) with real joy! It's superb. The chromatic rendering should be treated slightly if you are used to the brighter colors of Fuji but in terms of sharpness, portability, "purity" of the file is still unsurpassed today. Too bad for the monitor not unbreakable and the absence of the electronic sight but are venial sins compared to the yield even to the high iso and the quality of the lens. Autonomy. Well.. A good quality compatible battery costs 20 Euros and weighs nothing!!
