Pros: Everythink

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: The lens is was introduced with the A7 series into the market. At that time the cameras were the limiting factor. Since the Sony A7R II you can enjoy the full performance of this lens which is ranked currently as #7 in DxOMark. The lens reaches maximum resoltution in the center at f4 while the edges are at f11 at its best. There is a test report in the internet which shows the values for the lens mounted on a A7R and a A7R II https://www.digitalkamera.de/Zubeh%C3%B6r-Test/Testbericht_Sony_FE_55_mm_1_8_Sonnar_T_ZA_SEL-55F18Z/9187.aspx So the lens is still a great performer in 2021. Considering size and weight there is nothing better. So when you shoot with Zeiss glass, you want to have the Zeiss pop up effect. That delivers the lens, even at f4 it is noticable. The seperation of an subject from the background is simply great. The lens provides rich details of the subject, while the background is blurred. The colors and the contrast are typically Zeiss.

Pros: Optics that are worth a system

Cons: Nobody

Opinion: Really analog bokeh, color rendering that stands out from Sony rendering, very small lens and fun to use, af selector, great for portraits, street, architecture .. today you can spend little and combine it with dated bodies such as A7III becoming a fundamental complement of a Sony layette, in my way of seeing the portrait I prefer the 55 combined with the 135

Pros: Small, sharp, fast

Cons: I don't know

Opinion: I'm using it recently on A7III but the first impressions are really remarkable, small, very sharp, easy to carry because the combo with the A7III is perfect and balanced, a splinter, I found only some uncertainty in the maf but probably because I did not bet correctly, and maybe I could also improve the setting of the machine. The colors for me are fantastic as well as the definition, Zeiss will count for something, the famous loss of definition at the edges so much claimed in other reviews does not seem so obvious to me. I was amazed above all by the almost absent postproduction so much is the quality of the file that you get, paradoxically you have to work a little more passing to the b & w but already how it is born it would be fine. I come from an apsc also of good level, but I must say that there is no comparison. For me very approved, and I would say to evaluate it for what it is, that is, a work tool not a collector's item. instagram.com/mmarzaro57

Pros: Sharpness, Construction, Price-Quality, Bokeh, Speed af

Cons: Suffering in contrasts; The price in my opinion is, at the moment, in accordance with the value

Opinion: I have owned the Sony 55 f1.8 Zeiss for about 2 years. I had the opportunity to test it in 1001 circumstances, such as Portraiture, Ceremonies and Street. Undoubtedly the focal length, together with the generous diaphragm, make the coveted "Portrait" its workhorse. The image quality is really good, the sharpness in the center is decent at 1.4, excellent at 1.8. The feeling in handling this lens is to have in your hands an instrument of excellent workmanship that, if used well, can give infinite satisfaction. Incomparable yield with the smooth 1.8, and at the same time unjustifiable the price difference with Plannar T 1.4. Advised.

Pros: Lightness, sharpness, f1.8 without compromise, low vignetting, filter diameter 49mm, build quality, very nice bokeh with cats eye and in some cases slightly swirl, saturation and color rendering in particular red and blue.

Cons: Chromatic aberrations in some situations of high contrast, in other situations non-existent, high price maintained over the years.

Opinion: The optics that I use the most, in any situation and genre, perfect for the first A7, a compact, light and high quality system. Focus breathing can be a problem for those who make many videos, not making many you do not notice. Fantastic the blurred, swirl and with cats eye that I often hear not "perfectly circular", I prefer it so, a very nice effect especially for portraits in the presence of trees and vegetation, instead less swirling with stones and pebbles. Overall a real bargain for the price of the used, there are no similar optics in any system, quality confirmed by the tests carried out over the years.
