Pros: Excellent sharpness even at full aperture, very good edge performance, low weight, solid and tropicalized construction, possibility of using 67mm screw filters, fast and silent AF.

Cons: Evident barrel distortion without corrections, not exactly cheap price.

Opinion: The Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 G is one of those lenses that seems to have been born with landscape photographers and night photography lovers in mind. It's compact, lightweight and incredibly practical – being able to mount screw-on filters on such a bright 16mm is a huge plus. Image quality is its strong point. At f/1.8 it is already very sharp in the center, with surprisingly good edges for such a wide angle; Closing down to f/2.8–4 makes it really punchy across the frame. The coma is well controlled, making it a very good choice for the Milky Way or for those who stack at night. The vignetting at full aperture is there, but it is smooth and easily manageable. Barrel distortion is the only real compromise: without corrective profiles it is noticeable, but with automatic corrections it becomes a non-problem. The autofocus is quick and accurate, and the construction, despite being of the G series and not GM, gives a solid feel. In summary, it is a lens that combines optical quality, practicality and performance in a surprisingly compact format. For those who do landscape, travel or astrophotography, it is a lens that can quickly become a staple in the backpack.

Pros: Sharpness , Small , finally you use screw or magnetic filters almost pocket-sized.

Cons: Price.

Opinion: Before proceeding with this purchase, I wondered if it could be useful, considering that I already own a 12-24 GM. I can say that 16mm is perfect for landscapes, allowing you to crop if needed, thanks to the 60MP in my R5. This lens is amazing for its sharpness and the detail it captures. The quality is higher, especially when shooting at f/2.8 or f/4 compared to the 12-24 GM. Also, the advantage of being lightweight and being able to use screw or magnetic filters is something I really appreciate in my photos. Sharpness and detail remain good even below f/2.8, although you do notice some vignetting, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy. I often use it for night shots with a tracker, but also for stacking multiple shots at f/1.8, and it performs really well much better in the edges for the stars of the 12 24 GM Of course, it can never replace my 12-24 GM, but it will often help me to reduce the weight, since 400 grams less are felt, especially when walking over 20 km with your backpack. In short, it certainly has a cost, but in its category it is unrivaled and offers much higher performance than the Sony 20mm.

Pros: Sharpness even at full aperture, excellent rendering at the edges, small and performing, 67 filters, aesthetically beautiful, especially with small cameras such as A7c, excellent colors and contrasts.

Cons: The lightness and compactness is paid for with a barrel distortion, clearly solvable in post

Opinion: An exceptional lens, light, compact, allows you to get a lot of quality, both for daytime landscapes and astrophotography, remarkable detail already at 1.8 which becomes impressive at 2.8 nothing to envy to 14 gm, the coma is contained, as well as the quality at the edges, a lens absolutely to have, for a landscape painter it is really top, the only defect is the barrel distortion that can be corrected in post, From this point of view the 14 GM wins, otherwise great lens.
