Pros: 33 MP files excellent for detail and workability, very wide dynamic range, excellent performance at high ISO, autofocus among the best on the market, improved ergonomics, dual SD/CFexpress slots, viewfinder and screen finally up to par.

Cons: Menu still not entirely intuitive.

Opinion: The A7 IV is a complete and well-balanced camera, designed for those who want professional quality in the photographic field, even with advanced video possibilities (which I personally do not use). The 33-megapixel sensor represents an excellent compromise: more resolution than the A7 III, but without penalizing the grip at high ISO. The dynamic range is really wide, the RAWs are extremely workable, and the color is neutral and easily molded in post. The autofocus is one of its absolute strengths: fast, precise, reliable even in low light conditions. Impeccable eye-AF, both on people and animals. The construction is solid, the grip improved compared to the previous generation, and the controls are widely customizable. The new tabbed menu is more rational, although it remains full of options. The vari-angle screen is useful in many situations, the viewfinder has a good resolution and smooth refresh rate. The dual slots (one UHS-II SD and one CFexpress Type A) provide flexibility and security. For those who only do photography like me, it is a camera that allows you to face any situation with confidence, both technically and operationally. In short: a complete, modern, stable mirrorless, with very few weaknesses. Perfect for those looking for a solid, reliable main body capable of adapting to any photographic genre, from street to reportage, from portrait to landscape.

Pros: Balanced, pleasant to use, evf

Cons: Very weak articulated display and unsuitable for professional use.

Opinion: It is a machine that brings all the pros and cons of the sony, but I am talking specifically about this model, highly disappointing, it is the display joint that is decidedly shameful. Same problem as Y7S3. The first time, for a slight damage, in official sony assistance in Verona, they fixed it under warranty saying that they had made an exception. Exception for what? The mechanism sucks. Then in 2024 it breaks down permanently, everything works but does not stop and bends backwards without a stop. I was in the middle of the work period and taken by desperation, I disassembled it [...] and I recreated the seat of the screw graft with epoxy glue and then I stopped everything with a clamp to make it harden 24 hours, we are talking about a screw as big as that of glasses. That is, all the friction of the display locks on a fife waist. Shame. Now it locks quite well but to fix it and restore everything as factory they go away 350 euros because the rear cap has to be changed. I keep it like this. You can work. For the rest it's fine, it has a good resolution potential regardless of 33mpx, even in raw it has a more accurate rendering of skin colors than the old ones, the autofocus is excellent, with the latest firmware updates it also has more responsiveness to shooting, that is, less latency. Ergonomically it is good, always with the sony limitations, the display is small typical of the brand, under the sun you can't see it, in fact it's pitiful. It's a pleasure to use and is a nice step up from the a7 3. Too bad for the 4K 50p video that only goes in crop, I think it's a purely commercial choice, but the video quality is excellent and is very responsive during videos on the go.

Pros: Operating speed, AF, file quality, improved ergonomics.

Cons: It heats up a bang, 33 mpx in my opinion useless for a multipurpose camera, several "Bugs" of ignition and off, after 7 months one of the two sd slots has crashed, feeling of unreliability.

Opinion: A very significant upgrade of the A7III, operating speed, subject attachment even in bad light conditions, file writing speed, general responsiveness of another planet (compared to the A7III, in fact), considerably higher sensor quality and with a more pleasant and "easy" color rendering in post, ergonomics, weight, adjustable screen (good for photos, less for videos), Exceptional and improved AF in the chase, in short, very satisfied from many points of view, if it were not for the fact that in 7 months of use, not even intense, it has presented several alarming behaviors, removed the well-known temperature problem, partially solvable through the appropriate item in the menu, I have repeatedly witnessed on/off bugs (always using only original batteries) in which the camera does not turn off unless the battery is removed, and recently an apparent writing bug, which I thought was caused by a faulty SD in compartment 2 (to be clear the standard/no CF one), which then turned out to be due to a mechanical breakage of the card lock system inside the compartment (A really strange stuff, for the way it manifested, I'm waiting for clarification from support);

Pros: New sensor and related color science, improved construction and ergonomics, even more perfect AF, improved display/viewfinder quality, protective curtain on the sensor, usual total customization of the camera, usual eternal battery, infinite lens park

Cons: Lower ISO tightness than the previous series, operating speed can be improved, display/viewfinder can be improved

Opinion: I bought this A7IV coming from A7iii, A7R iii and other systems (Canon R and fuji X-H2/X-T5) seeing it as the definitive and evolved middle ground between all these mentioned: small, fairly light, quality to sell and infinite range of lenses. Actually in many respects it is like this: the operating speed (power-on, touch response, shutter button response, etc.) has improved a lot since the third series (however much slower than the old Eos R), the autofocus has improved further, useful but not so fundamental being already brilliant that of the previous series, the menu is now more intuitive (but none is impossible to use). On the other hand, the ergonomics and build quality have been significantly improved compared to the 3 series: more pronounced keys, less spongy rings, increased grip, wider and more comfortable joystick, more robust and larger gaskets, apparently more solid paint, more versatile articulated screen and above all foldable for protection. Video quality further improved and FINALLY implemented touch tracking (present on the Canon R since 2019 and never on sony), it has now become so advanced in the video field that to take advantage of all its functions you have to do it by trade! WHAT DID I LIKE? The new sensor brings with it, in addition to resolution, a splendid color science, much more precise and with a new, more vintage profile well done. Display and viewfinder are finally good/decent quality! The 3 series ones were really indecent, slightly better on the R version but still indecent. Now it's much less straining on your eyes and you can even tell when a shot is in focus :-). The new slot is also very much appreciated, which despite being CF makes the standard SD insertable, a considerable saving of money for those like me who do not use burst and manage 4k safely with fast SD. The sacrosanct protective curtain as on the Canon is finally present here too! WHAT DID I DISLIKE? The resolute sensor unfortunately brought with it an ISO seal that I find rather sad, from the first 6 thousand shots I consider it worse than both A7iii, but also A7Riii (with 42mpx). We're still at a high level, but it doesn't give me the feeling of omnipotence-ISO that the A7iii gave me, really a shame. Much can be improved in terms of switching on and switching between viewfinder and display.

Pros: AF and viewfinder, ergonomics,

Cons: High ISO tightness, Cfexpress type A, monitor, lack of focus stacking, sony updates, micro-usb, 10fps that drop to 6 with uncompressed file.

Opinion: I used the A7IV alongside my Nikon z6II for some work. I mainly used it as a body that I could use for the video side although I also used it to take photos. A well-made camera with good ergonomics, a significantly improved viewfinder, excellent AF module... But there are "buts". Tightness at high ISO that I've heard a lot and good about: but where? A terrible grain that's hard to get off in post; the A7RIII handles it better. The Cfexpress type a may be versatile but they cost a lot and are much slower than the type b that are now at the same time at a good sd: where's the convenience? If you take a machine like the A7IV to put a 15 euro card in it, there is a serious problem. The monitor, like the viewfinder is good, with a good contrast that allows you to see well in any light situation, but it is small, with low resolution and the articulated screen in that way can be comfortable in a few situations, but for the most part it is very uncomfortable especially because it is off-center. Finally: 10fps only with compressed file is shameful especially because mechanically it can do much more (at least 12fps with uncompressed file). After the roundup of negative things, let's talk about the merits: significantly improved ergonomics, not like Nikon's but good. Menu that I find very intuitive: articulated it is true, but intuitive (the only flaw is the translations). Greatly improved viewfinder, with good contrast and resolution. Spectacular AF, I can't say more. Color science changed, with less warm colors with greenish shades (personally it's not exactly a virtue, but I find the colors closer to those I like). After testing it, I think the A7IV is a good machine, but honestly there are some things that make me turn up my nose but I can only appreciate other features of it. On the video side, nothing to say, although I don't think I have fully exploited it from this point of view.
