But for daytime landscape photos on long hikes I find it phenomenal. Its lightness is incredible, a real FF with the weight of a 4/3, which returns raw with a surprising workability (obviously remaining really low with the ISO), in terms of shadow recovery and in terms of dynamic range, it doesn't make me miss the other camera bodies in the backpack. To all this if I add the really low purchase price at which I found it since it had just been discontinued.... for me, indispensable. That said, the camera body today can be found at an absolutely low price, less than 400 euros, and at a photographic level it is still a camera body that for certain subjects such as landscapes, street, portraits (although the eye AF is missing, but I also remind you that until a few decades ago you only shot manually and even today some of the most prestigious and expensive lenses in the world such as the Zeiss Otus are only manual), especially in lighting conditions up to fair, it allows you to churn out absolutely professional level work. It is not a camera that I would never take today for sporting events, astrophotography, birdlife or other uses in which capturing the moment is important. But if you're not in a hurry to shoot, like in the old days of film, and therefore want to experience the essence of photography, this camera is great. In the dark and in low light conditions, however, the AF becomes almost unusable. Unfortunately today it suffers from the competition at the same price with the mark 2 which for 50 euros more on the used allows you to have a much better AF, better ergonomics, 4K video and IBIS, so today it is difficult to prefer it again only for these extra functions despite having photographic qualities all in all extremely similar, but for those who have it I would have no problem continuing to use it, the resulting files are really excellent and like many current FF cameras (always in good light conditions) especially in association with modern lenses such as GM and Zeiss, the kit 28-70 lens has a quality comparable to that of a high-end smartphone, therefore essentially unusable (nothing to do with kit lenses like the 18-55 Nikkor, decidedly superior). Both the Mark 1 and the Mark 2 that share the same sensor have the nefarious Sony color science tending to yellow, it is fixed in the camera (custom AWB B1 M1) or in post but it is something to keep in mind. The ability to recover over- and underexposed areas is absurd, the sensor has a dynamic range absolutely on par with current flagships - assuming that you shoot in RAW of course.

With mirrorless cameras, everything changes. Everything no longer revolves around the subject in the viewfinder. But to the battery and how long it lasts: 340 shots max per charge (not to mention that with the display you gain a little more). I'm not complaining about the menus. So many functions that were previously taken over by the keys, but here physically there is no space. Horrible white balance. In short, colors... REC button right where it shouldn't be. If you don't use it after a while, you forget what customizations you had set up. One of the few advantages? They hardly steal it from you... it is often mistaken for a film SLR or a compact SLR. €60 for a battery of just 1030 mAh? You're kidding us, aren't you?? Too many compromises and few merits.

The various keys are small and crowded, ridiculous the shutter button put vertically and that the first times you use it you have to grope if you have the eye in the viewfinder. The energy consumption is very high but it is solved with some spare batteries and trust that having only two is risky. The battery grip if on the one hand helps on the other drastically worsens ergonomics even if used for its main purpose, that of vertical shots and also makes it lose the characteristic of lightness and reduced size. For the use I make of it, mainly portrait, it is still excellent and does not make me regret the heavy Canon 6D with its excellent L optics. If I recommend it? It is found in the used really little and if you happen to have the good opportunity yes, but it must really be a very occasion. Otherwise an A7II with its improved autofocus is certainly the best choice if you do not want to face the expense for one of the various A7III.

The sony A7 is a bad machine from almost all points of view, working in events where speed and responsiveness are needed, many times even indoors and partially in the dark, the Sony A7 manages to lose at least 50% of the moments for the very low speed of focusing and the way it blends in low light conditions indoors. The viewfinder on the outside is not very bright, on the inside it is difficult to follow the movements, with a low refresh rate. After the first tests I could immediately notice that the battery had an insufficient duration even for an amateur, so in addition to buying several extra batteries, in my works I tried to always turn off the machine when I had that minute of pause, but here follows another big negative point, once the machine is turned off, Getting a shot in speed is impossible, because the start time of the machine is long and therefore you lose those 5/7 seconds of scene. This with Nikon has never happened to me, even with the compact practically, on Nikon kit when you press ON the shutter and' already ready immediately to shoot. Another big negative point is that it is impossible to work with Jpeg, the color quality is from another world, it does not completely reflect the original colors of the scene and the white balance does not even know what it is. The image almost always results in a cold and dull tone.
