This one is for real and the compacts with a 1-inch sensor are eaten for breakfast. I found the snap focus fabulous, which is nothing more than the mode with which you can choose the depth of field by setting the aperture and focus range. By adjusting manually, you choose the time and aperture and leave the iso setting to the camera. You can do it with any camera, it's true, but here, in the absence of a bulky lens with the distance scale, they put a real-time display of the focus range on the screen. The touch screen is excellent and responsive. There is no flip-up screen, but I imagine that to make the miracle of a pocket-sized and robust APSC you have to sacrifice viewfinder, flip-up screen and flash. The 28mm equivalent lens and 2.8 brightness provides great quality images, some vignetting is easily corrected in post. If you are willing to spend a fair amount of money, you cannot help but be satisfied with this little gem (and not only for the streets...)

It is very small and pocket-sized, it makes no noise or almost, it is invisible. Since I bought it, my "keepers" have increased by at least 100%. Perfect for "belly" shots, but only during the day and/or with a lot of light. When evening falls I realized that it is better to leave it at home: the AF does not hook one even by mistake (we are not talking about a few photos to throw away, we are talking about 90% sometimes) and the limits of the sensor are all felt and the various denoisers help only partially. The construction is at the minimum for an expensive machine like this: the feeling is not of great robustness and I am always afraid that a key will remain in my hand or that the lens mechanism will stop working (but maybe I'm paranoid). Mine then had a factory problem and it was repaired for more than two months and needed the replacement of the "motherboard" (machine bought new 3 months before, Ricoh thought it was better to keep it 2 months instead of giving me a new one). The white balance always needs corrections because it almost never satisfies me in automatic or zone (maybe it's my eyes). It also has some problems with the automatic rotation of photos (it simply doesn't turn them very often) and with exposure, especially if you use the one for highlights (I have this impression: on Sony the camera lowers the exposure so as not to burn anything, instead on Ricoh the high lights are taken as a reference of medium gray, so everything else becomes very very dark) In short: an overpriced car because it is unique in its kind, perfect for the "instinctive" street during the day. If there was something like that, maybe I would sell it, but it's not there, so I keep it and take it with me every time I go out. Edit May 2025: it is back under warranty because it still crashes. Let's see if now they replace it or give me back the money. I can't tell if it's a m machine or if it's Ricoh that has an m assistance. In any case, if I went back I wouldn't take it. If they give me the money back, I will take something different. Edit July 2025: they replaced it and this one has no problems for now. I started to get used to the lack of the viewfinder and I feel good. For a few weeks I have been shooting only with her and I must say that she does not disappoint me at all. I was very angry with Ricoh for the bad assistance but there is nothing to do, it is the best compact on the market. I'm considering taking the GRiiiX now...

You leave the house and literally put it in your pocket. The files he pulls out are spectacular, both with the Negative and Positive profile but also in B&W. I took it with me on a recent 4-day trip to Switzerland and I brought home beautiful photos, without lens changes or handbags to carry around (although I also have an R8 which is very small on its own but still requires a bag). As for the battery, it is a false problem as they are so small that even these you can carry without commitment. For the problem of dust I bought a cap to put when I put it in my pocket. The only real negative note is the AF module, in light conditions it does not give problems but in the absence it has a lot of difficulty in focusing, it can be partly solved with the snap focus.
