Opinion: It was my second bridge, bought in January 2018, after a few weeks of reflection more to see if it could actually be a suitable hiking companion than for the search for quality, I was positively impressed. I mainly use it for photos in the mountains during my excursions in all possible ways (ski mountaineering, skiing, mtb, enduro, trekking, snowshoeing, mountaineering), it is light and not bulky. We start to say that I almost always shot in RAW+JPG low quality and yes, I continue with this choice that I had already married on the reflex. The lens is clear, although as you go towards 60x, a little sharpness comes less, but it is a machine of less than 300 euros, handyman, and you cannot expect everything. If you then make my mistake of putting a cheap UV filter in front of us, you have spent little and thrown a lot of shots in the bin, personally I quickly switched to filters of decidedly higher quality and without compromise. I used it in various conditions and it has never suffered from any mechanical or electronic problem (we are talking about over 30,000 shots), with the zoom at 1200 mm it has allowed me to take shots at unexpected appearances of a lot of fauna, sometimes possible only in stakeout (and stakeouts I rarely do and only in equipped oases). It has a lot of functions and many in my opinion of marginal importance but from that point of view, it is more than complete. I suffered the lack of being able to go beyond the 4" of exposure and the night shots at the high ISOs better to let them go. I personally prefer the 3:2 format so the use at 16 mpx and in fact the quality, compared to the 18 mpx in 4:3, changes significantly. The F8 diaphragm, it could be (it's) a pretty heavy limit but I thought worse. In essence: less than 300 euros for a light handyman, full of functions and an incredible zoom, you have to compromise on some compromise but it is not money thrown in the most absolute way. Although it has now become my camera used (I also have an FZ2000 and a Nikon complete with optics and filters), I use it again and with a little care and knowing its limits, overall it remains a good bridge that gives more than discreet satisfactions.

Even with the known noise problems, out of 12 mpx it would certainly have produced good results but the manufacturer limits the choice between 18 (better to let go), 9 and less than 5. I'm using it in 9 format, that's fine. With 9 mpx and a good overall definition you get to the 20x30 or 24x30 without any particular problems. Optical quality does not make you cry out for the miracle (on prices of this level had, in my opinion, better optics the old Fuji bridges of economic range), with the canvas over 500-600 mm. (equivalents 35) decays significantly (also due, it seems to me, to autofocus that does not respond as to lower focal points). However, I was surprised by the supergrandangolo of 20 for the very poor barrel distortion (also contained the classic astigmatism), usually present at the short focal points of the bridges with strong excursion. I find irritating the maximum closure of the diaphragm at 8, it could have been up to 11: you need to have an ND filter, if you do not always want to shoot on 1/250 (or on shorter times) I took it second hand, I paid very little, up to 400 iso on 9 megapixels it seems to me you can use it profitably. Shooting in raw, frankly, I don't even think about it (at least for now). I forgot: I did little rehearsal but I would say that 4K videos come pretty well. And as much as I paid for it, it largely justifies the purchase.

Viewfinder and screen are good in relation to the product class. Noise is always present, without being too invasive in the 80 - 400 ISO range. Jpg images are well machined and allow you to achieve satisfactory final results, unless you point to A0 format prints. At the end of the carousel it is a fun tool with good value for money. After a couple of months, I would like to add a few comments born from the experience gained. Looking for an adjective, the right one is slow. Slow to start, although you can preset the lens extension to the last focal point used. Slow in time of use especially at the long focal point. The snap time rule =+ focal would indicate setting to 1/1500. The reduced usable ISO range and the undemanic diaphragms allow, in the best light conditions, to reach 1/800, and normally to have times from 1/125 to 1/350. If you accept this slowness, you pull out good images, especially from the short side of the focal point. Working at maximum extension, with static bird life and sufficient light, you have equally valid results, within the limits of the sensor. In essence, to date I find it a fun tool, a utility car good to almost everything without almost ever excelling.

Opinion: I started trying my hand at photography about two years ago with this Lumix and after studying it and fully understood it it was time to make a review of it. Many "hate" and don't understand the meaning of a bridge camera nowadays.. I totally disagree. A good bridge teaches you to photograph, to "play" with ISO, diaphragms and times and above all, thanks to its versatility, it allows you to experience all photographic genres thus orienting yourself towards what you like the most and all for little spending! With which reflex could you do this for the same price? Sure.. the quality will not be that of a reflex/mirrorless, but the files are very workable and with a little post production the satisfactions come. Speaking of other points in favor I can only mention the excellent stabilization, the burst (10fps that are about halved by shooting in AF-C and RAW) and autofocus. The latter is very precise, especially if you use a single point whose size can be varied at will. At the smallest possible size it can be moved (with really minimal displacements) all over the display and this is really convenient to focus (for example) a bird between the branches of a tree or the detail of an insect. Excellent possibility to control the bridge remotely via wifi and special application for smartphones. I enjoyed the rich menus, full of features and customizations! Perfect for macro-photography, combined with a raynox lens gives fantastic results. If controlled remotely via app, it allows micrometric shifts of focus, thus allowing the realization of perfect focus stacking. I only regret the absence of an adjustable screen, it would have been the icing on the cake for this photographic genre. Let us now turn to the cons. The sensor is small and miracles cannot be expected in terms of ISO sealing. Noise is always and I always say present.. even at 80iso you can see some grain. You can still do a nice selective cleaning, the raw file allows it well. But if you're not computer-able, you take jpg and you're purists, well. this machine is not for you. A negative point in the field of naturalistic photography is the huge loss of detail that you have with the crop. If you want sharpness, the subject must occupy the entire frame. Then beware of the composition! I continue with some really annoying constraints that you have to face especially in night photography. In manual mode it is not possible to shoot with times slower than 4s. In "artistic nocturnal" mode it is possible to get to 60s, but.. ISOs cannot be changed!!! They remain fixed at 80. I think this is a big castration.. this is probably a precautionary measure to avoid excessive overheating of the sensor.. another even more annoying constraint concerns the impossibility of removing the automatic noise reduction for long exposures that starts automatically and lasts the same time as the shot just performed (dark frame to be clear). You think you're in a special sunset situation that lasts a few moments.. you can take half the shots and that's really stressful. Taking stock.. machine that I really appreciated, with which I learned to photograph and that allowed me to take naturalistic photography with a really low expense! Super recommended for those who want to start taking their first steps in photography, but also for those who never want to deny themselves a shot (a 1200mm eq. that is carried comfortably in the backpack or in the car I consider it a must especially for those who do naturalistic and can not carry reflex + mega canvases every time they leave the house).
