Pros: Image quality, stabilization, overall handling

Cons: ISO wheel could be more useful than it is

Opinion: I bought this camera as a successor to the ageing Df, so the standard was very high. I sold back the Z6ii that was nice but not as endearing. Image quality is definitely better than with the Z6, and more or less at the level of the Df (best camera ever, I you ask me - I mostly use MF prime lenses). While I could use the Df up to 12800 ISO with sensible de-noising (25600 in B&W); the Z6ii was no better except that the stabilizer allowed you to use lower ISOs, sometimes. With the Zf I do not even care about de-noising any more. The noise just looks like "grain" from the film era and disturbs much less. I bought the camera online from Nikon and it came with a complimentary grip that I finally adopted, despite the slight increase in weight and bulk. My only (slight) disappointment is the ISO control wheel; it does not allow to engage or disengage Auto ISO. If it did, I'd wish use the ISO setting as the maximum value. For reference, and since D700 times, I set aperture for controlling depth of field (and aberrations), speed for subject freezing (or unfreezing), exposure compensation for general tonality, and auto ISO for correct exposure under the aforementioned constraints... hence my (minor) rant. Still, in this unperfect world, it's a 10 out of 10. P.S. while I mostly use manual lenses (Canon FD, Nikon F) on adapters, some Z lenses are cool, esp. the excellent 24-120 and the modest, but suprizingly good 40/2. I dared to shoot an entire graduation party with the latter, only using "digital zooming" on post-processing, with great success.

Pros: Vintage design, autofocus, IQ, compactness

Cons: Flippable and not just tiltable, a few more buttons wouldn't have hurt.

Opinion: As a photographer I can say that this camera is really exceptional. As already mentioned in the pros, the vintage design is wonderful, the controls with the various dials do not bother me at all on the contrary they make the camera more aesthetically beautiful and allow you to make adjustments even when the camera is off. The toggle to instantly switch to B&W is brilliant for the type of camera. The image quality even at high ISO is really good and the 24mpx is perfect for any use. Even with the smallrig grip the camera remains quite compact and if combined with the 40mm f2 or the 28mm f2.8 you can have fun without tiring your wrist. Nothing to say about the autofocus which is very fast and accurate even in continuous mode. The MAF on the eye is very reliable and finally Nikon has put itself on par with Canon and Sony. What I don't like is the flippable rear display!! Being a photographer I would have preferred 1000 times the only tilting display (in a cockpit to be clear) and unfortunately I can't get over it because such a camera body, clearly dedicated to photographers and not to videomakers, had to have a cockpit display... Nikon's big mistake!! I don't understand why the Japanese have to get lost on the most beautiful... what did it cost to put a rear display like the one on the Z8??? We don't know!! Missed opportunity by Nikon!! Another small note is the lack of some other function keys. Other than that the camera is really nice and fun. I recommend the purchase especially to fans of the genre.

Pros: Aesthetics

Cons: For now, nothing to report

Opinion: Taken 3 weeks ago let's say more out of curiosity than x actual need (I already own a D3x, a D850, a Df and a Sony Alpha 7r3) the first impression is that of a light camera, a bit plasticky and delicate, the Df in comparison seems more professional camera. The first photos taken (with manual lenses and adapter) are not bad and look identical to the other 4 digital cameras I already own) but we are only at the beginning of the ZF adventure. As soon as I got it I updated the firmware as the previous version was still installed. I immediately mounted the smallrig handle on it but I don't find the grip great (at least compared to the ones I already own). As a simple amateur photographer I really appreciate the toggle to switch from color photos, to BN and videos, super handy. What I find uncomfortable instead is the front right button (where the white adjustment appears), the position is very unlucky (at least for how I use it) and every time I press it involuntarily and I find it on the monitor (I'll see if I can exclude it). In such a camera, the image broken in the middle for focusing with manual lenses would have been very welcome. In a few days I get the FTZ 2 adapter taken used at a good price. Before bleeding further with Z lenses, let's see which ones I can take advantage of among the ones I already have. I reserve the right to update my impressions in a few months, as soon as I have become familiar with them.

Pros: Charming look and feel, remarkable backward compatibility, SD+microSD, articulated display.

Cons: Grip (but that's how it is by choice..), it is addictive

Opinion: I'm a humble amateur photographer. I've always had Nikon SLRs, I've been dreaming of a retro camera for a decade. I entered the ML world obtorto collo with a Z5. When this machine came out... I couldn't resist. The transition to ZF was abysmal! The satisfaction of maneuvering the thumbwheel controls is off the charts. It shows great elasticity of use, with a minimal retro look thanks to the screen that can be "hidden" on the back with a leather-like pattern... A gem. Hooray for SD cards, which allow me to save money for good lenses! Great AF, I photograph my kids in all conditions. I can easily use lenses that theoretically have problems transmitting data from F-system to Z, but the camera rarely makes a dent with the Tamron 70-300 in my possession. I can focus well even in very, very low light. The grip for my hands is quite limiting, but once the Smallrig is mounted, there are no more problems. It has such a rich menu that it will take me ages to check it all out. What can I say... I'm good to go for the next twenty years. It's addictive!

Pros: All

Cons: Z lenses still non-existent

Opinion: Peremptory, without mincing words. It was the camera that every enthusiast had dreamed of for years: a vintage mirrorless camera with a full-frame sensor. After more than a decade, someone has finally satisfied us, in this case Nikon. After the unsuccessful attempt of the ZFc, bad given the fierce competition from Fuji, it finally listens to the fans. The machine is perfect, there's little to say. The sensor is not exaggerated, a 24mpx with AA filter, but brought to the state of the art, without excesses of resolution absolutely out of context in 90% of cases for an amateur. The processor coming from the Z8\\Z9 flagships then, is a definite value. It is therefore not a re-bodied Z6ii, but more likely a re-bodied Z6iii (not yet on the market). The body is made of magnesium and transmits solidity. The "modern" look of the rear is a bit out of tune, they could have found some tricks to make the car look more vintage without sacrificing usability. For the rest, everything is there, including some goodies to improve manual focus, such as automatic zoom on the eye even with contactless manual lenses. Basically, the moment he perceives an eye in the frame, you will see a square appear, and in case you press the magnifying glass, the crop for fine focus will be done on the eye area, and not in the center of the frame. Crazy help, but which I doubt will remain Nikon's prerogative for much longer. The grip then with lenses intended for "manual" use I don't even find it so narrow. Obviously, if you want to use lenses such as the 70-200, the external grip becomes mandatory at this point. It should be noted that the cost is low, about 49€, a miracle for an original grip. At this point I would have given it away together with the car, but apparently Nital seems to do so. The only con that I would like to report is a still inadequate lens park, the SE versions with vintage references are plastics, without bezel, with painted plastic inserts and even plastic bayonet: a strong no. To conclude, I can only recommend the camera, it is the dream of anyone who uses vintage manual lenses and wants to have fun without adapters, and which can become a professional tool if necessary.
