Having already had a D50 and a D80 of which I had appreciated the chromaticism, in order not to miss anything and do a test of yesteryear, I used it together with the 18-55 AF-S II zoom which is from the same period. Camera body (only 5ooo shots), lens like new, original battery, Lowepro bag and Nikon ML-L3 remote control "cost" me 100 euros in total. So it is with a light heart that I speak of this whole, aware of the many limits it has. I state that, except in very rare cases, I do not take action or night photos that would immediately undermine both the autofocus and the iso hold. The first positive notes come from a well-built compact body and an unexpectedly bright pentamirror viewfinder. The ergonomics for those like me who have medium-small hands are good. The autofocus, which can count on only three focus points, is discreet but precise. The rule of focusing on a precise point always applies, lock AF and then recompose before shooting. Slow of course, but you don't throw shots to the wind. I tried both Jpeg and Raw developed with the proprietary Nikon Capture N-XD program: no saturation or contrast was increased. The color rendering is "crunchy" with colors that turn to warm tones that seem colorful and saturated as in postcards. The skies are of a magnificent blue quite natural. I see the ideal use of this camera in landscapes with ancient constructions such as fortresses, walls, monuments etc... to which he would give a vintage note. For the same reason I do not recommend it for portraits where the faithful rendering of the complexion is a determining factor. The rendering of the b/w instead is beautiful with open shadows reminiscent of analogue, a good detail associated with a good micro-contrast. This is remarkable for a sensor of only 10 Mpx. I set 200 iso for a compromise between definition and noise: up to 800 iso, exposing well, the photos are still good, beyond that I don't recommend it. For crops. I tried up to a 25% and I must say that the image basically holds. Among the cons, in addition to those already mentioned, small display, burst, non-compatibility with Nikon AF-D and reading times that would however be contextualized in reference to the year of release of the camera and that is 2008. In short, do you want a cheap toy that, if you are not too demanding but patient, can still give you some satisfaction and maybe make you go back in time? I just told you about it.

Pros: Excellent ccd file quality, handling and un cumbersome for travel.

Cons: Slow and insensitial af with few focus points, fairly limited shooting times for faster times, few controls and rings available, non-tropicalized body.

Opinion: Well it was my first reflex ever since 2008 when the first model came out, and again I happen to review from my archive old photographs with a very good quality made with this machine body. Of course it is not a D90 with which I really learned to use a reflex, but it defends well. With the 18-55mm kit it obviously remains an entry level but if you pair it with the 18-105 mm the level of your shots rises and the D60 can rival even the most modern mirrorless. In fact, in 2016 (almost eight years after the purchase) I happened to use it for a travel reportage in Greece with which I then made a photographic exhibition, printing the photos in a 40x60 format. Absolutely fantastic the yield on photographic paper, beautiful and bright colors. Here today we have cameras with incredible power, sensors with over 40mpx and Iso over 26000, the d60 was just 10mpx yet, when I see my photos made with the D60 I still really like them and I feel like printing them above all. If it were not for the fact that I also have a d90, Two D300 to take reportage photos in extreme and stage conditions and to finish a legendary D700 with which I realize the most important services and especially portraits , I would use it a little more. My opinion is that apart from its simplicity, it is a great camera with which to start shooting in broad daylight, the simplicity of controls is certainly a plus for a beginner, on the contrary it is absolutely not made for those who love the body and weight of a reflex pro, and the shooting speed that is essential for certain situations like the sports photo here is completely missing. Excellent for travel, small and little visible, with the rendering of the files a good tool to always keep close and being the first REFLEX I would never sell it.
