Pros: Versatile, addictive, weight, sharpness.

Cons: Noticeable drop in sharpness, combined with the Nikon TC-14E III in distances greater than 9m.

Opinion: This lens is simply my favorite of all those I have used. It's not the best, but it's so convenient to use! I use it relentlessly since its purchase. On FX, it allows portrait and street events for details. On DX, it allows the sport and the animal. On DX + TC-14E III, it covers the birds, although a little short and it loses 1 Diaph. Regarding the sharpness, I would say that it depends on several factors. From 1m40 to 3m, in proxy mode, with or without TC-14E III, on FX or DX, it's "Razor Sharp". And it's amazing to be able to photograph flying insects with such ease. (see my gallery) From 3m to 9m, according to my many tests, it is excellent, but especially without the TC-14E III, because with, the loss of sharpness is in my opinion quite noticeable. From 9m to 25m (but this is only my experience in the field), it becomes more average, because I think the image is significantly degraded by the multiplier. At the infinite, even a castle in clear weather for example, with multiplier, I would be much more critical on the quality of the image rendered. Of course, an AF setting is to consider and can really make the difference. (for me: D500 + 300PF + TC -1.4 = +6 AF). In comparison, I think that the AF adjustment of the Sigma by the dock is much more interesting, because it takes into account at least 4 key distances (16 for a zoom). Regarding the stabilizer, I find it very effective until 1/200. But it depends on each photographer and his ability not to add unnecessary shaking. ;) In conclusion, I would say that I find it EXTRAORDINARY. However, if you want to photograph small birds, make sure you have an approach as discreet as possible, because mounted on DX with multiplier X1.4, it gives 630mm, fully usable freehand ... but it is a bit short :(

Opinion: Recently purchased this lens as a welcome addition to my much heavier 300mm F/2.8 VR. I love this lens on either an APS-C or a fullframe camera. It's so much fun carrying a 300mm lens that weighs about the same as a 24-70mm F/2.8. IQ is great when stopped down a bit. When shooting wide open there is little DOF to work with. The 300mm seems to handle the 1.4 TC pretty well. When making use of the limiter there is not muching slowing down on the AF-speed. My 300mm lens seems to do best wide open (F/6.7) when using the 1.7 TC. In really low light situations I will still be using the much faster 300mm F/2.8 lens, but this beauty comes to use in almost every other situation.

Pros: Sharpness, AF, final optical output

Opinion: I bought this lens a bit as a bet, I confess, to join its big brother 500 PF. Found used Nital in more than excellent condition, the optics turned out to be a pleasant surprise, in spite of the several not always positive reviews found on the net. I have to say, though, that my user experience is limited for the time being. Mounted on the D500, the AF is fast, quiet (a lot) and accurate; The sharpness, especially at f5-5.6, is certainly superior to that of the 200-500 (lens that I had and squeezed) and I really like the final performance. I didn't notice any chromatic aberrations but, yes, in certain particular lighting conditions it overexposes a bit, but at the moment it doesn't seem anything dramatic to me. Weight and portability are virtues not to be underestimated at all: as soon as I picked it up, I almost couldn't believe so much handling and it was a great pleasure to take it on a couple of excursions. I'm waiting to try it on D850 and D6 and, over time, who knows, I'll correct my judgment. For now, it's highly recommended!

Opinion: I had this lens several months, to make a Review... I could see that apart from lightness I do not see great merits. Good sharpness that in low light conditions is lost. Now I own the 200-500mm F5.6, I consider it a great zoom and sharper than the 300 PF in question. The price of this lens for what it offers seems excessive to me. I also noticed that on some occasions it did not handle the colors very well and suffers from the side light I had to always keep a -0.7 in the car but it depends on which bodies it is mounted on if used on sensors with a few megapixels it works correctly. I think that's the price to pay if you want a light optics like this. In the photos there was almost always distortion and chromatic aberrations that could be corrected without problems in Post Production. It has a minimum focusing distance of 1.4 you can get very close to the subjects, obviously it is not a macro if you want to use it for this fact, then I recommend more with a focusing distance of at least 1.2. Af fast but not a missile also in this case I saw better. If you want to buy a 300mm I can recommend the old 300 or the 300mm F4D ED.
