Opinion: when use it I said wow!Very sharp lens without CA at widest aperture , razor sharp at f/5.6 and very beautiful bokeh rendering! before buy this lense i have many macro lenses i have sigma 180mm f2.8 os & sigma 180mm f3.5 & nikon 105mm vr & tamron 90mm vc every one have many problem , weight or focal or wheather sealing and more... but this lense is great fot macro work highly recommended

My macro telephoto lens so far has been the Nikon micro 200 f4 AI, beautiful optics but at f16 it begins to lose sharpness, plus it stops at the 1: 2 magnification ratio. I also use the Sony 90mm macro, the blur of 90-100mm I do not like very much because it is not very delicate. Leaving this aside, the 90mm has a huge flaw, it does not have the tripod ring, which for me is indispensable. Every time I use it, if I have to switch from a vertical to a horizontal frame, I have to detach the camera from the tripod and hang it up to change position. This can be difficult in the wild and animals frightened by too much movement can run away. With the Irix I solved these problems, now all the features I need are finally enclosed in a single goal. The sharpness is excellent and remains constant up to f22, which is very useful for macros. It is quite heavy as I like it, the Sony bodies are always too small and the pair can become unbalanced, so I have always attached the battery grip and the grip becomes much larger and more comfortable. The focus ring is very long and allows you to reach magnifications of over 1:1 without the micrometric slide. I come from a Canon 100 f/2.8L Macro IS USM and in the past I have also used other emblazoned lenses. In macro photography, at least as far as I'm concerned, I find the pluses such as stabilization and autofocus completely superfluous, fundamental instead sharpness, resolution and control of manual focus, and this Irix is satisfying me in these aspects. It is a well-built, solid, sturdy lens, the ring is perfect and the hood does its job. A very good case is provided. What struck me most, is the focus ring: fluid, very long stroke and adjustable in hardness. This, as mentioned by others, allows a very precise control of the fire, often making the use of the micrometric slide superfluous. The step from the ratio 1:1 to 1:2 is really long. The same ring that strikes me positively, however, also affects me in part negatively. The plastic used, very soft, provides excellent grip, but accumulates a lot of dirt. After a few minutes of use I realize that it is full of halos due to the dust that "sticks" on the surface, so I am forced to use a cloth to clean it before storing it in the backpack or in its case. It is fussiness, but I would like to make it clear. Another thing I didn't like is the front cap. Really very uncomfortable the shape and position of the closing clips, so much so that I replaced it with a cap of a few euros.
