Pros: - WR, - 24-120mm range, - aperture ring.

Cons: - never sharp at 16mm (!!!), - heavy, - big, - bloody EXPENSIVE.

Opinion: Tested the lens in a 'try and buy' from a local photo shop. I did not buy it. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get a sharp corner to corner image at 16mm at any aperture. !!! All shots at 16mm had soft corners. ALL. I opened the RAW files and had a look and the answer is obvious - the lens takes barrel shaped images at 16mm - the distortion is so huge that I could not believe it and started reading online for confirmation. The camera corrects this huge barrel distortion but the result is soft and useless corners! I have a 18-55 lens that has horrible OIS and has no WR and so I hoped to get this one to get weather resistance (I often shoot at the sea and at times I do get completely wet with the camera). However, the 18-55 is sharp at 18mm when closed to about f5.6 or f8. In fact I am almost sure 18-55 beats 16-80 at most focal points. And it costs only about EUR 200 (s/h). Another problem is the size and weight - on a XT-2 body this lens feels as heavy as a dslr camera ... And it makes the camera front-heavy. So I returned the lens to the dealer. I can see that somebody else here returned their copy to Amazon too! I will not mention the price (here, in Spain, EUR 900 !). C'mon Fuji - you give us another average lens at ridiculous price! I am considering going back to another brand now that both Nikon and Canon started making mirrorless bodies. Edit 2020 February: Now I have had another, different, sample of this lens for a test. It was, very unfortunately, as bad as the first lens. Mediocre corners, huge distortion at 16mm and pretty useless sharpness at 80mm and full open ;-((((( Price 890 EUR in Spain. Ha ha ha. Fuji is joking maybe. This lens is permanently OFF my shopping list. I am buying a 16-50 2.8 lens now which is stellar in comparison and costs about the same!

Opinion: I have been using it for more than a year now and I can be satisfied with the type of photography for which it was designed and built. I'll start immediately with what are the weak points in my opinion and I can say that this lens is certainly not a blade for sharpness even if at intermediate focal lengths and at apertures from f/5.6 to f/11 it is really good both in the central part of the frame and at the edges, if we go to the lower and upper extremes it definitely loses especially at the edges while remaining good in the central part. Of course, if you do landscape and use it at 16mm it could be a problem but it still makes you take home worthy photos but if you want the best in the landscape you definitely don't go to buy this kind of lens, ditto at 80m, but the "serious" problems regarding my use end here. On the other hand, to improve would be the fluidity of the shots of the aperture ring (maybe it is a problem only of my specimen) on which I have to apply a strong force to make it rotate and unlike other Fuji lenses in my possession there are no well-defined clicks; Nothing important though, the bezel does its job without any problems. The last note that can be improved is the lens hood, plasticone (in the style of XF 23mm f1.4 old series) of generous dimensions that does its job but has nothing to do with the build quality of Fuji lenses. In its favor, this lens, on the other hand, certainly has a great versatility that for a general use, for example during a holiday where you take photographs without great pretensions (but also something more and also based on the photographic genre), does its job very well allowing you to go from a wide angle to a good pushed tele, all with a lens that you can mount in the car and never take off again and above all with dimensions and weights Reduced. It's also a tropicalized lens that makes you feel comfortable with rain or dust, I've used it in very different situations, even at the sea on the beach, and there is not a grain inside. The best note of all, however, in my opinion is the really excellent stabilization, I use it on XT-2 (so unstabilized body) and I must say that you can take home handheld shots even up to 1/30 - 1/40 of a second without major problems. I also emphasize that the system that automatically disengages the stabilization when the camera is put on a tripod works perfectly, as I have done various tests to verify the thing and the photos I have taken have no micro motion blur due to the stabilizer in operation. It is therefore possible to use it in all situations, without forgetting close-up photos, thanks to a focusing distance of only 35cm with a magnification factor of 0.25x, making us get closer to macro photography thanks to the close-ups that can be made. Now, it's certainly not a professional lens, but if this 16-80 is used in good condition at a price between 400 and 500 euros (new it doesn't make sense to buy it because with a few euros more you can buy the used 16-55 f/2.8), in my opinion it is a valid alternative (moreover stabilized and with 25mm more focal length) to the older brother and if used in the right conditions and in the right way Giusto makes you take home shots that can give satisfaction. Of course, you don't have to be obsessed with perfect sharpness at all costs, but at this price and with this focal range there are not many alternatives (maybe the Tamron 17-70 f/2.8 but with other weights and dimensions or the 18-55 f/2.8-4 but with less focal range?). Considering all these factors and especially for its versatility, it is for me a lens to grade 8.5/9.

Opinion: A lens that surprised me with its versatility, it beautifully covers an ideal range to do almost anything. Combined with the XT4 it is well balanced, sharp even in the corners, it almost does not vignette anything, the weight and the dimensions do not make me regret the 18/55 that I gladly put aside. The stabilization is exceptional, the Fuji technicians in this case have done a great job. There is no button to remove the stabilization because it is not needed, an internal sensor recognizes if the camera is on the stand. I don't miss the aperture at f/2.8, the stabilization accepts unthinkable shutter speeds, even the bokeh is not bad at all. The rings are numbered and well made and the rotation is optimally frictioned. What more can I say?? Advised!!!

Opinion: It is the classic travel zoom ideal to be mounted in the room and no longer taken off for the duration of the holiday or for the classic Sunday outings in which you do not want to carry your bag and all the paraphernalia and you want to have a good level of all-rounder. The focal range in my opinion is enough to cover, certainly without great pretensions, any kind of photography (or almost), from landscape (excellent that it starts from 16 and not from 18, this is in my opinion an added value) to street, from reportage to portrait, from architecture to travel photos. It's a fun zoom with excellent sharpness that hardly makes you miss any situation when you're out and about. I mainly use Fuji fixed cameras that have a better performance and IQ (but giving up versatility) and therefore I don't use it much, but if I have to leave for a few days, I mount it in the camera and I don't take it off anymore, except maybe for some evening shots since it's not very bright. For its specific use, recommended.

Pros: Excellent focal range, excellent stabilization and good focusing speed

Cons: Dimensions and weight not too small

Opinion: A great travel companion. With a single lens you can face any situation. Good sharpness and yield over the entire focal range, obviously it is a lens to live not to put under the microscope. Good constant brightness, f / 4 is not exceptional but turns out to be a good compromise and at close distances also allows you to detach the subject well from the background. However, its privileged field of action is travel. I mount the 16-80 and I never take it off, now I only bring my X-T30 and he, with a good SKYLIGHT mounted, and I leave the rest at home. Great choice.
