Pros: High image quality of both stills and video. Wonderful AF system. A very handy flippy-touchscreen. Good IBIS. Great ergonomics. Nice EVF. Impressive burst speed for 45mp FF. Well implemented manual focus assistance.

Cons: Two different types of memory card slots (SD+CFX). The longest exposure time in electronic shutter mode is only 1/2sec. It doesn't recognize people automatically and you have to switch people/animal modes, because while it does track people in animal mode, it does much better in people AF mode.

Opinion: I'm using the R5 for almost two years now. It's the best camera I have ever owned. The most amazing thing about it must be the AF system. It can literally track insects. It's amazing. But those few times that I did "crank it up to 11", I mean up to 12800, didn't disappoint (for stills). It's capable of producing very usable results at high ISOs. And the colors are not simply falling apart like they used to on older cameras. Low ISOs are beautiful with good dynamic range. Lastly, it has the anti-aliasing (AA) filter, which affects sharpness, color and contrast, while reducing moire pattern and Bayer CFA artifacts. Which is good for video and people photography. In terms of ergonomics I really like it, compared to the Canon R, which presented unfortunate innovations in several respects, the R5 represents a continuation on the same path of the Canon 5 series reflex cameras which in my opinion offered excellent ergonomics. I used it in the rain and snow and it never batted an eyelid, showing that its tropicalization is quite good. Viewfinder and LCD monitor are excellent, I also like that the monitor, in addition to being adjustable, can be closed so as to be protected. At the video level I use it very little (I am not passionate about videomaking but only about photography) and therefore I have not "clashed" with the well-known problems of overheating ... For my personal use, the only defects, overcome by the next model, are in electronic shutter mode: the presence of rolling shutter on some occasions given the traditional and non-stacked sensor, the shutter speed limit to 1/2 seconds that prevents you from using it for long exposures, the burst that is not adjustable and always travels to the maximum (20 fps). For long exposures I solved it by setting the electronic first curtain mode, which reduces vibrations and extends the life of the mechanical shutter a bit. For action photos I am almost always forced to use the mechanical shutter to avoid rolling shutter and possibly limit the speed of the burst. Let's start from the fact that the 5diii has remained in my heart, when I sold it also went with it a piece of my heart, my first FF and my first pro body, I did everything with it and it was there to always support me without batting an eyelid, the ergonomics were simply fantastic which with eos R I struggled a bit to find but then I got used to it and I also geared up with her even if he was always missing that something... That something I found in the R5, a feeling that seemed lost after the 5DMark3.... yes, the dials with the joystic are back finally, they were immediately felt from the first shot, it seemed to redeem with the 5dmark3, if I can say it FINALLY. Let's talk about this machine now, ergonomics from what I have told so far TOP, from 10, coming from a life of canon I immediately felt at home (everything in its place). The image quality is embarrassing, endless detail (and I was used well with the 30mpx of the eos R), initially it took me a few shots to avoid micro-blur, moreover I was testing the ibis as far as it could get and I was amazed by the effectiveness, leading me to shoot with times unimaginable before with the R (tested with the ef 24 70 2.8 ii... I still have to try the sigma 50 art). The lightning-fast AF module locks on to the eye and never leaves it, even when the subject gets so close that the minimum distance in focus is overtaken, even from a distance it works wonders (maybe coming from eos R I see everything in color?). Some time ago I tried a sony a74 with its 24 70 2.8 and I don't remember it so responsive. We went back to the double slot, which I lacked a bit even if the eos R did very well, with fast sd it never made me wait, but certainly having the possibility to save on the cf express b 45mpx files in raw and on the sd the jpeg (respectively 50mb average and 10mb average) helps and not a little both in terms of speed and in terms of security, having a sort of backup either in jpeg or in raw always behind.... Also on the speed issue I would say excellent, both in terms of the menu, fast and responsive like a smartphone, and on the gust issue, shooting at 20fps after the poor 5 fps of the R changes your "life" a bit, you can take 15 fps more and therefore moments that you would have missed before. What can I say, mom canon with this body has been able to savor after the reflex / mirrorless transition all the good she had built over the years with professional bodies such as the 5d series (which to this day I still consider of a high level, especially at the used prices that there are now).
