Pros: excellent image quality even wide open, very accurate and fast AF, build like a tank, very effective image stabilizer

Opinion: Despite its high price the upgrade form the non-IS version or version I of the IS-model is worth the money. The image quality is great, tack sharp and with high contrast throughout the zoom range, even wide open. AF ist blazingly fast and accurate. The new lens hood design (with release knob and structured finish) is very appealing. The IS is somewhat noisy (especially when it starts working) but works excellent. The construction is outstanding: full metal body, no extending tubes, weather sealed (the non-IS has no weather sealing). Also very usefull is the reduced minimum working distance of only 120cm. Weight and price are high, but there is no other 70-200 zoom that can keep up with this excellent lens.

One and only sore point, even today the price in used goes from 1100 if you are lucky to 1350 euros in like new condition, which I think is a bit excessive given the age, but given the performance still today and the "caliber" of this lens, I can say that despite everything I am fully satisfied. Needless to say, I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the lens to buy once and never upgrade again. A true sacred monster.

Cons: Ridiculous kickstand bracket

Opinion: Several months ago I gave away the first IS version, also f2.8, to get this second version. The difference between the two is noticeable, of course, the file is more defined, better contrasted, you perceive it immediately, and already the previous version was in itself an excellent optics. The stabilizer works significantly better even if, personally, shooting sports photography always has a very short time. FINALLY Canon has equipped this lens devoted to the dynamic scene with a lens hood that engages with a nice "click" and that can be removed by physically pressing a button, the previous version did not have it and, after a few years of wear, you found yourself with the lens hood rolling in the middle of the football field. I found myself shooting in the rain, the previous version had no problems and neither does this version two. The limiter is very useful in dynamic scenes from the sidelines, I use it almost all the time and it makes the AF from "lightning" to "instantaneous". The only negative note I have to this lens is not the weight, it is not the cost, but it is the bracket for attaching it to the tripod. Ridiculous, if by chance you have to make a small move I can't use it as a "handle" since there are almost no fingers between the bracket and the body of the lens and, in any case, it is so short that it fits a finger and a half.. What can I say, a few more centimeters were enough. BUT that said, it's a great lens that I would re-buy 100 more times. Last note: excellent use with 2X (third series)

Pros:

Cons: Weight

Opinion: A lens that if you can carry around, does not make you regret fatigue. I used it extensively for sports photography, it allowed me to easily hook subjects at 100kmh at full aperture and churn out sharp photos with a beautiful blur. Always used on mirrorless, unfortunately it was heavily unbalanced by the adapter and here comes its only cons: weight. As much as I loved it in portraiture, I did without it because of the weight and bulk. Lens that I still loved with a fast and precise af, very sharp at all focal lengths and with a fantastic bokeh.
