Opinion: Recently taken to replace a 24-105L that has decided to stop working the diaphragm group!! The 28-135 has its greater versatility, lower weight and smaller footprint. Optically it suffers from AC but in PP I eliminate it in an instant. IDEM disstronions. It does not give you the feeling of robustness of an L lens but to know it first you must have it and therefore also from this point of view the lens is built well. It lacks a lower micro contrast than the 24-105. Maybe that's just what makes it different. But otherwise if used well and closed at f8/11 from in better. The price of used is ridiculous when compared to the 24-105L! AF and IS good and not at all slow or limiting in use. So in my opinion having tried both I miss the extra 4mm and a micro engraving / three-dimensionality of the 24-105. For the rest VOTE 8,5! Paid 80,00€ perfect used! Opinion: Looking for vintage optics to be used for light outputs and maybe with a single lens, without carrying around much more expensive optics in risky places, I came across an opportunity for an almost immaculate specimen that I bought for the equivalent of a fifty f1.8 II used or a little more. Honestly from the first shots (made among other things with the Canon 5D Mk IV at full resolution) I had the feeling of having in my hand a different lens from the one that has been reviewed by many as a bottle bottom or so. It will not be the Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 L II or the 24-105 f4 L IS, but neither will it be the 18-55 series I and II for aps-c to which some compare it. The colors are the classic old school Canon ones that I found in the 24-85 that I already owned and in the canon 50mm f1.4 usm. Distortion and peripheral AC can be corrected with a click using the lens profile in Photoshop, while good sharpness is present at all focal lengths. The weight, accustomed to much heavier optics that I have and that I have had in the past, for me is quite light and very manageable in size, also the construction (even if it is not the best with the double cam for zoom), perhaps thanks to the excellent state of conservation of my specimen, does not suffer for the moment of the slipping of the front lens group when put upside down, nor of an excessive transversal game. For those looking for a good optics as a first purchase for an FF body without spending excessively I highly recommend it.

Pros: covered focal points, cheap, stabilized, light, versatile

Cons: "plastic", not exceptional sharpness

Opinion: I have had this lens since 2006, from my first Canon 30D (on which it was actually little wide-angle, but I survived). He accompanied me to discover photography and even now (on 5D II), although not very often, it comes in handy. The sharpness at TA is not great, but closing a little improves, but above all, as always, depends what you have to do: for small prints or situations from immediate jpeg, the results will definitely not be to be despised, with good colors and sharpness more than enough. Stabilization is not as phenomenal as the most modern, but for the years it has, it does its job well. Little bulky and light (although, as mentioned, a bit "plastic"), it is a very good and really economical lens to start to become familiar with the various focals and then eventually evolve towards something of higher quality. Distortion present, but not exaggerated (less than that of more recent targets). What to say: it will not be a super top ever, but for the figures it is around, it maintains in my opinion a rather interesting value for money and for example associated with an old FF (5D I or II) can allow with very little expense to start to experience.
