sent on January 17, 2023 Pros: Small, lightweight, few distortions Cons: The update software Opinion: Last year I bought this used lens and... I couldn't believe it! Busted colors, busted focus and exaggerated ? distortion The solution was to buy the base (about € 80) that is used to update all Samyang lenses! Which I did not consider appropriate also given the difficulty of updating the firmware .... Obviously I returned the used and bought a new updated for which I did not find any defect, indeed I am really liking everything ?. So watch out for Samyang firmware! |
sent on March 02, 2022 Pros: None, maybe be light Cons: All!!! Opinion: It's the first time I write a review but as a fan and lover of photography I could not refrain from doing it, more than anything else to avoid disappointment to my amateur colleagues. Tried a full day and say that I was disappointed and little poor lens from all points of view.... stay away from it if you can. My opinion is purely personal based on my photographic experiences over the years. A hug to all the Juzini and Juza that allows us to express our opinions! |
sent on October 27, 2021 Pros: Small, light, open, incisive. Cons: I would say nothing, If it had been a 16mm rating 100! Opinion: Small and light, bright and with a pleasant bokeh, discreet proximity of focus. Low cost and therefore every complaint leaves the time it finds. Excellent mini lens to have in the kit. Sharp in the center with small decay on the edges, but nothing so serious. Very little distortion, imperceptible. Good autofocus (on A7s which is not lightning). Rating 9 |
sent on August 24, 2021 Pros: Distortion, lightness, q.i. in the center. High-performance continuous autofocus, great for video Cons: Expensive for what it offers, good edge performance but without excelling, excessive flare in some conditions Opinion: I took it because I needed a light wide angle, and that's fine, it's a feather. Overall it's a good lens, but if I think I paid it three hundred euros it doesn't seem like a fair price. The surprising thing is that it does not distort, and even if the subjects are close, the elongation factor at the edges is really minimal, this quality in moving videos is really a huge advantage. |
sent on June 19, 2021 Pros: Quality, weight and size. Cons: lens hood Opinion: I convinced myself to buy this lens because it is very light and very small, as well as exasperated by the focus of my Samyang 14mm. After the lost 4mm, there is no comparison: it is sharper (especially at the edges), more compact, MAF much better. The price is ridiculous for the overall quality it offers and for the utility, especially for travel photographers. Of course the lampshed is a toy and some more premium lens details are missing; however, in my opinion, it remains the wide angle to take for those who travel and do not just take landscape photography. |
sent on June 10, 2021 Pros: Footprint, optical quality and cost Cons: Problems in the backlights with sun on the pitch Opinion: I was oriented to Loxia21 or Sony20/1.8, but since my accquisti are not compulsive when I was presented with the opportunity to use this lens having the opportunity to test it before the purchase I decided to try it. I already own the 16/35 is Canon and I already had the opportunity to use 20mm when I had analog Nikon and the 14/2.8 Fuji,I was not very inclined to go down to lower focal points as a field angle, also because I had the 14 Sammy for my tastes and attitudes I used too little, of the series taken-used-resold after a few months at the same price. Going back to the 18th that I use on Sony 7rII I immediately found myself well resolution, vignetting and above all surprisingly good distortion for the focal even considering the cost even from new. As already written in the premise you have to be careful when the sun enters the field in the strong backlights that can bring flares and phantom images, but knowing it can be overcome and in any case in my opinion it always remains a must in the value for money. All this must then be verified individually, given the fact that according to many the variability due to quality control must be verified between the subject and the subject. |
user213929 ![]() ![]() | sent on April 19, 2021 Pros: Framing, af, lightness, sharpness Cons: nobody Opinion: Wonderful lens, if you take it on Amazon it is better not to risk taking a failed copy , I am enthusiastic about this lens when compared to the Batis I just come to thank Samyang for giving vent to the creativity of photographers with such a derisory budget and with respectable performance and worthy of some publications or prints that you want , in every mode of use I find it excellent. Thank you Samyang. This ultra-grandangular focal and my 105 art 1.4 are perfect on my Sony A7iii for the way I interpret artistic photography. Not being a matrimonialist I don't care about coverage from 24-70 or 70-200, I just want quality and versatility being true to my favorite PDRs. So I found peace with the Sony system. In 1 week of use I will redo another more in-depth review |
sent on March 03, 2021 Pros: Crisp, light, compact and inexpensive Cons: Variability between copies Opinion: I chose the Samyang 18mm f/2.8 as a wide angle to combine with the A7C to have an optics that could also be used at night, but that at the same time was extremely compact and light: with its 145 grams of weight, this lens is really unbeatable. The sharpness is amazing, great at all diaphragms, already at f/2.8 it is very good. The price around 350 euros makes it very competitive; in this price range it is difficult to find such good optics. The only downside is the variability between the various specimens: I have seen various evidence of copies that have much worse clarity than mine; I therefore advise you to buy it from a retailer that gives you the opportunity to change it in case you find any defects. |
sent on February 17, 2021 Pros: Global yield, weight (who knows if it's good) Cons: Construction(?), lampshed, flare Opinion: The first impression in hand was a can cut with a glass like a lampshed... all very very light!!! If it's a good thing you'll see over time... moving instead to the yield at 2.8 has slightly soft corners and you notice vignetting, from f4 no longer vignette and the edges are good, from 5.6-f11 good from the center to the corners in the same way ... in short, it does exactly what I was hoping for, not like the samyang 10mm I had, but much better than the samyang 14 that had disappointed me a lot, even the distortion seems quite contained, in short for now it promises well; good colors, contrast and micro contrast right, if we really want to suffer a little flare in the backlight with front and also lateral light. |
user213242 ![]() ![]() | sent on November 24, 2020 Pros: Sharpness, size, compactness weight Cons: Shoddy fender Opinion: I followed Juza's advice and took this lens which I am very pleased with. But it wasn't easy. The first 2 specimens were strongly decentralized and the much-vaunted sharpness a chimera. Only the third turned out to be perfect. For this reason it is highly recommended to buy it from a retailer that takes them back without difficulty. I used Amazon (which changes every item, as many times as you want and without creating problems), even if it was a few euros less. I had the 18 Batis, which with the paraluce seemed to go around with a trombone, while the Samyang, despite being smaller than half has nothing to envy him optically! Of course the construction and mechanics are not Zeiss, but since I often change objectives it is easier to amortize the 300€ of the Sammy than the 1300 of the Loxia! Highly recommended objective (if the specimen is good) especially for landscapes and interiors. He only has one flaw. I do not understand why Samyang persists in wasting money on its "cases" (so the targets are carried in the bag) and does not invest instead in better quality lampsheds. This one of the 18th is really sad and once mounted transforms a lens without too many aesthetic pretensions but still with a simple and linear style into a kind of Easter egg surprise. Too bad. SAMYANG DO BETTER PARALUCE!!! |
sent on September 22, 2020 Pros: sharpness, weight, size Cons: flare, virtually useless lampshade, not very precise focus Opinion: I use this lens with my Sony A7s entirely in manual for both day and night landscapes. I am very satisfied with its sharpness, which becomes really great from f/5.6. The milky way is also really good, as it also happens with the old sammy 14mm. The only real problem in my opinion is the flare, which I notice a lot because I like to take pictures of sunsets, although I must say that there is worse (for example the Tokina 11-16mm first generation). For the price however I can only recommend it. Rating 8.5 |
sent on January 04, 2020 Pros: general yield, price, transportability Cons: plastic construction, bokeh (for what can be used on such a lens) Opinion: taken to replace the Samyang AF 14 2.8 and get more transportability and reduce weight and size, it is a very pleasant discovery: despite the plastic construction (it is light to look empty, the lampshade I guess will break the day after tomorrow from the so much is cheap) optically it proved to be really good: sharp already at full opening, do not "unmit" the edges as does the "brother", the overall yield is very similar: excellent even backlight does not present obvious flares or drops of light, distorts less than 14mm and has excellent colors. The blur is not soft but is quite nervous, but on an 18mm serves up to a point The star effect is decent, it will not be a Voigtlander but it is analogous to 14mm, almost equal. The af is safe and very fast, even if it makes a very light noise, maybe it is not recommended for videos. Ultimately, you lose 4mm from your older brother, and a slightly cheap construction, but you gain a lot in lightness and size, and optically it looks even better. for what it costs for me is absolutely recommended. |
sent on December 21, 2019 Pros: Price, compactness, weight, optical yield Cons: plastic construction, no distance scale and hyperfocal Opinion: taken to replace an old 15/30 Sigma unfortunately lost in a slip on Adda edge. He convinced me after 2 months of intense use. For what it costs is well above expectations. The lampshade is truly horrendous, plastic infile but performs its task well. It doesn't give me flare problems. it does not have the scale of distances and hyperfocal but unfortunately lately it has become a luxury.... |
sent on November 09, 2019 Pros: compact price and size Cons: rendering of colors and contrasts in the absence of sunlight Opinion: l I tried on sony A7r III along with the 35 2.8 mm as a kit to carry around when I do not want to bring the sigma Art I took shots on a day of cloudy skies in the alleys and in a market the rendering of colors and contrast in those light conditions I have to say that it was poor, in post production you can improve but this applies to all optics. what I had in the test in autofocus did not hook the faces but with the spot pointer was quite effective. for what it costs I recommend it to those who have expensive lenses and want a lens to take to any place turns the sony A7 into a compact lightweight species with the 35 mm 2.8 has entered the phone purse that I keep in my bike. As a main lens I do not recommend it to those who have very high resolution machines. I also recommend it to those who do not make constant use of pushed wide-anglers and for the cost it is worth having |
sent on November 09, 2019 Pros: Compactness, weight, optical yield Cons: It's ugly Opinion: Tried almost by chance long ago, I must say that it represents an improvement over previous products of Samyang. Good yield, very correct, effective AF. Recommended for those who want a fixed non-manual angle, it has the great advantage of weighing little and not taking up space, which causes a place in the bag to always go out there. Its real territory is street photography without disdaining that of interiors. The minimum focus distance, however, seems to me to be greater than the twenty-five centimeters declared. |
