sent on August 24, 2023 Pros: Value for money, format, stabilization, dimensions Cons: AF on very limiting people, Cover-viewfinder Opinion: Used socket (at half price compared to the price list) to use when I need to minimize the volume of equipment I carry with me (some travel, street photography), I love the fact that it is full-frame and stabilized at a truly unbeatable price. The dual SD slot helps and the autofocus in general seems great for the price range, even in low light (certainly do not expect performance from Z9 / Z8 or Sony). The main flaws I found are 2 and of both I do not understand the reason: 1) the Eye detect (and also the face detect) can be activated only by selecting as the focus area the largest one that holds the entire screen / viewfinder, so if it actually focuses correctly the eye everything ok, if you need to quickly focus on some other detail in the viewfinder or any occasion in which you do not want to use one of the features auto-selected by the algorithm, you have to change the focus area and move the new focus point by hand, it happens to me personally in 2 main cases: - it does not seem to me that the eye detected by the camera is in the correct position (or maybe it does not detect what I want because of the pose or accessories worn) - I have to take a series of shots in which I quickly pass from the eye to focus of the person portrayed to a detail, usually something he has in his hand For this reason I often find myself not using this feature and directly using the smallest area available 2) the viewfinder cover rubbers jumps off with disarming ease. It came to me without a viewfinder cover, I bought the official kit and 2 times out of 3 when I put it away in the backpack jumps away. I understand why I got without |
sent on August 19, 2023 Pros: Construction, image quality, price, ergonomics Cons: Slow burst, "old" autofocus, unusable for video. Opinion: Let's start from an assumption, if we are interested in the full frame we have to put ourselves in the head and lightness and small dimensions are difficult to have. Overcome this preconception we find ourselves in front of a PHOTO camera really with an impressive value for money. Photographically speaking, the sensor still does its dirty work, it has dynamic range and resolution combined with excellent ISO resistance. On the video side, however, we are not really there, but probably it was not even designed for that. The burst is not great and combined with the autofocus not really bright continuously (single af is fine, although not very sensitive with low light) certainly do not make it a sports camera, but for landscape, street and everything else still today I think it is more than excellent. |
sent on June 15, 2023 Pros: Robust and fast, pleasant to handle and hold for grip, stabilized FF sensor, depth and dynamic range of images, precise light meter, fantastic viewfinder and also the LCD is clear and visible, excellent battery life, 2 slots, infallible autofocus. Large Q/P ratio. Cons: In JPG microdetail can be improved, Quick menu 'I' uncomfortable, sensor not backlit and drop in performance with low light. Very hard ignition lever, maybe it's a problem of my specimen. Opinion: Pesantuccia and robust as soon as it is turned on it shoots immediately, very fast light meter and AF, rarely does not immediately hook the subject, just touch the key so that you easily shoot x error. On the tracking excellent at least if compared with the Fujifilm APSC that I know. I do daytime landscapes and architecture and for these things the (few) limits of the Z5 are not felt. In the landscapes he always produces three-dimensional and realistic images although sometimes a bit soft x my tastes. This is how things are in JPG while in RAW/NEF on Capture you can recover a lot of detail and this limit practically disappears. On the Z5 there is the harmful low-pass filter... But was there really a need for it? In pp the moireé (which I do not mind) is removed with a click ..... Not backlit, when the light drops you immediately go to high ISO. The NR kneads the details, better to disable it and correct in pp. The Full auto mode provides (day and night) cleaner but desaturated and cold images that look b/w. The Quick Menu ('I' key) does not help, uncomfortable and with many sublevels you have to remember to confirm OK before going out otherwise everything has to be redone. Slow burst, movies with limitations but those who take it already know, while the instruction booklet that says nothing and forces you to look for them on the Nikon site makes me angry. Improving these defects (without however undermining the Z6,7,9 etc.) would be from 10 while so the Z5 deserves 9 also for its really honest price. PS I use only the 'modest' Z24-70 f4, with the Z lenses with fixed focal length I imagine there is room for improvement in the microdetail that is a bit its weak point but I have not checked. Indeed if someone has tried on the Z5 the fixed series Z I would be curious to know the differences. |
sent on February 19, 2023 Pros: Ergonomics*, price quality, customization, ease of use, viewfinder Cons: Ergonomics*, AF in harsh conditions Opinion: I bought it a month ago and I used it on several different occasions, but I wanted to wait to give a complete judgment after last night, when I tested it at a party. I must say that in "normal" conditions it is a camera that absolutely did not make me regret the D750 and everything, after a few days to learn how to put your hands in the right place to set everything (not because it is difficult, but only because there is so much stuff to watch) I took many test shots: holding it in your hands is the most natural thing there can be. Why "Ergonomics" in the voices both for and against? Well, the (green) light for the AF is in a different position from the D750 and so I had to "rethink" the positioning of the left index finger, which obscured it. But switching from an AF mode (C or S) to MF is nonsense and on some occasions I have relied on the manual focus that, with a 35mm, is not even so difficult even in low light, thanks to a fantastic viewfinder, which gives some small problem only in case of total darkness, But even then it offers a legible image. Fully satisfied with the purchase, to have something more I would have had to spend about double, with a Z6II (with the BSI), but obviously we are talking about two different products. PS: for me the video sector is completely superfluous, while the burst at 4.5 fps, when the light is optimal, seems even more performing, so no limitation for my use. |
sent on February 03, 2023 Pros: stabilizer, viewfinder, robust and tropicalized construction, sensor, dual slots, customizable keys, price, accurate and fast AFS Cons: AFC a bit slow, along with the poor visibility of monitor and viewfinder in low light, these are the only defects I find Opinion: over the years I had a bit of everything in the FF world, then I stopped with the Df, but I needed an ML for some vintage M42 mount lenses and Ais the best solution as an IQ / construction / price ratio and undoubtedly in the FF world the Nikon Z5, offers a magnificent sensor that has nothing inferior to the BSI if not at very high iso. For those who love the Leica M makes great, better from what I have seen of the BSI on Sony, in fact the latter from 35mm down begin to suffer at the corners, becoming kneaded by 24mm, while the Z5 also holds the 21mm without loss of detail. Solid construction as per Nikon tradition, small and compact, with each customizable button becomes a glove to wear in photography, the stabilizer works great with all the lenses mounted, both the original Z, that the G and manual focus with adapter. in AFs is very fast especially with the original Z optics, much more than all the SLRs I had, with the manual focus the viewfinder zoom allows a precision of focus unthinkable for any SLR, the ideal complement in the future will be the Megadap to make them work in AF. in AFc the face eye recognition function works well, but certainly you can not expect the performance in speed and burst of machines that cost three times. I find the viewfinder excellent, I do not see impediments of any kind for those coming from SLR, the only problem is also valid for the monitor, with little light you can see with difficulty but the AF works perfectly. It should be noted that despite being a basic model, it has multiple exposure, interval shooting, time-lapse, focus stacking like the superior models. I am very satisfied with the purchase, I was looking for a new stabilized ML and with excellent sensor at a low price, and the Z5 gave me much more than what I was looking for |
sent on October 15, 2022 Pros: Compact, robust, tropicalized, great sensor, excellent EVF, dual SD card slots, flawless stabilizer up to 5 EV, numerous customization options Cons: Disappointing 4.5 ft/s burst, very slow AF, 4k movies "cut" to 1.7x, unable to block the AF point in single AF mode, screen with strong digital noise in low light, FSI sensor (but this is not a problem for me) Opinion: I recently bought this Nikon entry level ML to have an FX camera in my kit. It is my first full-frame camera and I am very satisfied with the quality of the images in both JPG and RAW; the OLED viewfinder is excellent from all points of view and the customizable functions are numerous and complete. There is also the possibility of photo-stacking. Robust and weatherproof body, dual SD card (UHSII) slots, joystick for focusing point adjustment and many other features make it a semi-pro camera. Unfortunately, however, the extreme slowness of the burst and autofocus make it unsuitable for any dynamic use (sports, wildlife, birds in flight, etc.). Even shooting in low light conditions is difficult due to the annoying "noise" of the screen and the viewfinder, although then the image taken by the sensor is impeccable up to 6400 ISO and very good even at 12800 ISO. In short, an excellent camera for still-life, portraits, landscapes and static subjects in general. Vote 9 |
sent on January 19, 2022 Pros: I thank Mr. Dario Curlante Received today the new Nikon Z5. Tested immediately in extreme conditions... At home, because I'm still not well. Wonderful as announced by Mr. Dario! Cons: I can't afford to express opinions I only did still life Opinion: Handy Ease of setting Excellent autofocus Sharpness resolution colors processing all amazing surprise. I look forward to making use of it with noteworthy subjects. I thank again Mr. Dario Curlante for the expertise of descriptions and ... For being able to overcome my hesitations towards digital. sent on September 23, 2021 Pros: Sensor quality, in-room stabilization, large lens mount, customizable, excellent viewfinder, value for money Cons: nothing in the quality / [price ratio(< € 1000)], otherwise 4k video with crop 1.7 (irrelevant for my use), complete manual only in English and few Italian users with whom to compare Opinion: |
sent on June 11, 2021 Pros: Compact, lightweight, well built, great ergonomics, sensor stabilization, viewfinder quality, good AF, good ISO high seal, dual SD slot, battery life, value for money Cons: Limited video, limited burst Opinion: In my opinion the best Mirrorless FF in the value for money in circulation: with just over 1000 euros you take home a camera that allows you to do everything with great quality. The ergonomics are excellent, the customization total, the machine light and compact: it is photographed without ever detaching the eye from the viewfinder finding everything at your fingertips. The viewfinder is of great quality (identical to the Z6 and Z7), definitely good stabilization on the sensor. Double slot for SD memories, the machine has a very nice and workable file with a good dynamic range. The battery life is very good, but it can still be recharged even during use. In short, a camera for photographers at an attractive price. I would also add that the quality of the Z lenses is really high (at the moment I have the 85, the 35 and the 24-70/4). Who should not consider buying it? Those who practice dynamic genres such as photographic hunting are objectively limited by the flurry and, in part, by dynamic AF: surely there is better on the market (not in the Entry Level band, however!). Same on the video side, if for you the video is definitely important. For the rest a machine that will not disappoint you at an absolutely affordable price. Vote in its category (entry level Mirrorless Full Frame): 10. |
sent on June 09, 2021 Pros: And a big ML, I don't see any difference with z6, beautiful rows, iso seal, manual and a fairy tale, light, sensor, price to be an fx.. Cons: Nothing at all.. Opinion: I tried it for two days loaned to me by a friend and it made me believe with the fact that reading some reviews is reputed under the other ML... the files are similar to the z6 and superior to the competition... with Z pro optics amazes, especially at night! I put her under pressure at night in London and was speechless looking at the photos on the pc... no I have never made videos and I can not judge it in this, but using it both as a priority of diaphragms, in manual etc. it was a real satisfaction ... I have 3 cars all nikon, but the Z5 really amazed me... in a few months I will also buy this by permuting something... I'm not a fundamentalist... I have also tried other respectfully respected brands... but this z5 and a marvel of ml... |
sent on October 14, 2020 Pros: battery, quality files, price, high iso, customizable, stabilizer Cons: Nobody Opinion: I have had z5 for over a month and now I have tried it under many different conditions; has always satisfied me. The files I find them equal to z6 , so great at the high iso. The camera is highly customizable and has all the buttons in the right place. The double slot and the presence of sd instead of xqd allow you to save on memories Videos do not interest me The lens 24-50 is great for the street and allows you to have an fx machine with similar size to a Fuji The Z optics are of extreme quality |
sent on July 27, 2020 Pros: Light, compact, stabilized FX sensor, shooting charging, 4K30p video, SD double slot Cons: The only negative point in my story is that I preferred to have two CFExpress card slots. Opinion: Thanks to Nikon Europe I had the chance to test the Z5 for two months. During this phase I made the shots that are currently part of the worldwide promotional launch. I start by saying that the machine surprised me in many respects, compact and with a great feeling in use, it makes an excellent image quality thanks to its sensor stabilized on 5 axles of 24.3 mpx. As an absolute value the camera boasts the possibility of being recharged even when shooting, this is very convenient to all those who do night photography, timelapse and still very prolonged shooting in time. The new battery allows you to quietly make a snap day without being afraid to run out of charge, of course this in standard temperature situations. Tropicalization does not make you afraid to use the machine even in the most critical situations, also with the fact that it is really compact especially when combined with its optical kit 24-50 mm f4.5-6.3, it becomes the ideal companion for those who make long shoes in the mountains. In conclusion, in my opinion this is the ideal camera for those who want to approach the full frame world for the first time, but also for those who, alongside an optics like the 24-70 mm f2.8S want a second reliable and robust body. With regard to the cons, as I mentioned, I am now used to shooting with XQDs and CFExpress and I would have preferred to have two slots for these formats than the SD one that I find, from my personal experience unreliable as I have lost several times data and photographs that have become corrupted. For any questions I invite you to send me an MP I will be happy to answer your questions and curiosities. |
