sent on November 15, 2023 Pros: Focal Range, Sharpness, Customizable Dial and Keys, Lightness, Construction, Aesthetics. Cons: Barrel extension to 120mm, tropicalization. Opinion: I state that I am a lover of these wide-excursion zooms that allow you almost everything in a single lens for light outings, I bought it together with ML z6II; I had had its brother AFS 24-120 F4 AFS on SLR which I then replaced with 24-70 F2.8 because it was decidedly inferior to the latter and it did not excite me at all. I didn't know what to expect from this lens and I was really impressed with the quality; excellent sharpness so much so that in PP I no longer or almost no use sharpening, vivid and saturated colors that for a general use, use for which this lens is designed, are fine; in all other cases a hair of PP more and it resolves. lightness to which one could object that it is all plastic, but having it in your hands you realize that the quality of the materials is anything but poor, no strange movement at 120m when the optics are all extended; On the other hand, at 120mm the fear that in extreme conditions (wind, rain, etc.) something could enter the barrel is also there because the optics are not tropicalized, but on the other hand, to have everything (tropicalization, F2.8, etc.) the expense increases considerably. On balance, especially if you buy it with one of the periodic cash back or discount at the checkout, I think it is an optical with an unparalleled value for money. |
sent on September 19, 2023 Pros: Focal range, yield, construction, balancing, price in relation to focal range Cons: Really? Come on, let's be serious. Opinion: Iconic lens. I've never understood why other brands stop at 105mm! The focal length makes it the perfect lens for light travel, both on the z7II and z8 is a marvel in use. Silent, af without focus breathing (which sometimes happened with the F version), already made at excellent T.A. (the F version was not so sharp except by closing a few stops) and closing becomes surgical. Convenient sliding aperture ring, useful in video! A must-have! I would buy it a thousand and a thousand more times. |
sent on April 08, 2023 Pros: Weight, good build quality, focal range, value for money. Cons: Extension of the optical body by increasing the focal length Opinion: I recently acquired this lens as a handyman reasoning on the focal range and on the really irrelevant weight for day trips. I decided to sell my 24-70 f/2.8S practically never used (very few shots) because heavy. Well after a couple of outings in cities of art I can say that this lens is worth a lot for two reasons: the wide focal range that allows you to always find the shot (the 24-70 is short in this sense) and a great yield in terms of sharpness already starting from the full aperture at f / 4. There is no need to close beyond f/8 for landscape friends. I highly recommend it: practical, lightweight, well built, with flare resistance, wide focal range and great sharpness. Personally I reward him with a nice 10. |
sent on April 07, 2023 Pros: General yield, construction Cons: Vignetting visible at full aperture. Opinion: Socket used to replace the 24/70 Z f:4. The yield on the entire excursion of the focal lengths is, in my opinion, excellent. I was impressed by the good quality of the construction. The lack of stabilization is not in my opinion a defect as all the FF of the Z series have the stabilized sensor. The only "defect" found so far is the vignetting present at all focal lengths at full aperture. Definitely a lens to buy. Rating 9,5 |
sent on April 02, 2023 Pros: A true all-rounder, he does everything very well. Cons: Price too high even considering that it does not have the stabilizer Opinion: After having the 24-120 afs and the 24-70 F4 z, I was looking forward to the 24-120 z because for the focal length and the aperture it was the right compromise I was looking for. Nikon did not disappoint my expectations. The length from 24 to 120 allows you to really do everything, the f4 is the right diaphragm also in this case to do everything, compared to its predecessor afs but it does everything much better. Combined with the Z6II is practically a complete kit (yes a little' exaggerate ...) but it works really great. Some critical issues are well controlled such as vignetting. Considering that it is not a stabilized lens, the price is really high. Unfortunately by now we are used to everything that reported "Z" has high prices. The 24-120 is not a lens for aspc (it becomes a 36-180), but given the cost and the lack of stabilization, even more so I do not recommend it to those who do not have full frame cameras. |
sent on April 02, 2023 Pros: Yield on all fronts, an all-rounder who does not miss almost anything Cons: lacks stabilization (I would avoid using it on bodies without IBIS), market price Opinion: I waited to find it at 1000 euros to buy it, but now that I have it I don't regret it at all. For an all-rounder that you can take on vacation or when you want to go out with a single lens is perfect on Full Frame: the yield is unparalleled even compared to older lenses but brighter / more expensive and the only contender is the 24-70mm 2.8S which, however, costs more than double, and in any case it is not that far from that either. I don't feel the missing stabilization at all since I use the in-body one, but it could be a problem on APS-C. It replaces very well my tamron 24-70 (which was not giving me big problems adapted but still does not come close to this at all). If you could only use one lens for the rest of your life, this would be the most versatile contender. |
sent on March 19, 2023 Pros: Optical performance, functionality, aesthetics, construction Cons: Delicacy, Made in Thailand Opinion: I have this lens for 3 and a half months, resoundingly paid less than 1000 euros new, I put it to the whip properly and now that I know its character I can review it. With this lens attached to the z5 I faced three days of trekking at -10 °, a trip on a wild beach, evenings in the center for some photos with friends and many many walks in the countryside with the dog to enjoy the sunrise before work. I think there is no need for a short review, it is in fact widely known that the 24-120 S is superior to the counterpart F, the latter born perhaps 15 years earlier. The new version simply shows the stereographic character typical of the S family, at 24mm/f10 the sharpness breaks the blade of grass almost everywhere, and the performance is extremely faithful to reality. Having never owned other Nikon premium lenses, I must say that at the beginning I struggled to adapt to this fine and sharp imprint but now every time I open a file I am particularly pleased with the aseptic and crystalline rendering and absolute sharpness at any focal length. Probably the wide side impressed me more than the telephoto one but I must say that in general no optical defects were received, only the vignetting is not completely zero. Having mentioned the optical severity of the lens, I can now talk about how I actually found myself shooting with this gem on the shoulder, analyzing two points that I find fundamental. The first point is that of the functionality guaranteed by hardware such as the button on the barrel and the programmable dial that, together with the instant menu "i" of the body, make the shooting experience superior to that offered by a machine like the D3, despite that was a body with a button for everything. In the mirrorless world, in fact, it is really possible to do almost everything without ever taking your eyes off the viewfinder because the controls on the lens allow you not to have to move your face when you click something. Personally I set the FN to be able to compensate the exposure in a very comfortable way through the ring and switch from tracking to AF-S with the button: in a nutshell I am always ready for anything and I do not agree with those who say that the Z optics have unnecessary. Perhaps the OLED screen of the most valuable ones is a bit excessive, but certainly not the programmable buttons and dials. The lens is relatively light and this gives it access to any context, even those of extreme mountains. The judgment would therefore be 10 and praise, maybe 10 because for praise would serve the sharpness of 58 f0.95 in the barrel of a pancake, if it were not for the second point of our list. The 24 -120 S is in fact a jewel, and like all jewels it is delicate. During my adventures I became convinced that we are talking about the classic Nikon crystal, that is a lens that hardens if you touch it a little badly... It also does not fear snow and rain but during the walk on the beach a grain of sand entered the rings and for a few hours they did cric-crac. Don't get me wrong, the build quality is top quality and I'm not afraid to take it to climbs, but the philosophy is different than the AF-D. For example, the Tamron 15-30 is definitely something more prone to face moments of obsessive lack of love. And so I hope many beautiful shots with this creature in the hope that I always devote all the necessary attention to his health. Here on the forum I have at least 10 photos taken with this tool, thank you very much to everyone. |
sent on January 26, 2023 Pros: He does a bit of everything and does it very well, perhaps one of the best all-rounders in the market, pleasant bokeh Cons: Stabilization?, price Opinion: A lens that almost makes a kit. Lens that completes any kit, from landscaping to other genres. It allows you to cover from wide angle to medium telephoto with excellent image quality. Already at f4 it has an excellent yield, with a pleasant bokeh for portraits. The stabilization is missing but most likely would have further weighed down the optics, which goes well with the Z6 and Z7. New is not super cheap if you find it used or in kit is a bargain. |
sent on January 20, 2023 Pros: Comfort, general rendering, colors. Cons: Lacks stabilization, price (if taken without discounts) Opinion: Lens I took to replace the 24-70 f4 on my Z6. After using it for a long time I can confirm the excellent general qualities, as zoom everything does very well on every occasion. The fixed F4 aperture makes it great for travel, but even in the studio it has not paid much pledge. Flare and distortions absolutely contained and recoverable from Lightroom. Balanced in weight, it goes well with the full frame Z. The only real flaw is the price, better to take it on offer or used (if you find it). This is also why it would not have been a bad thing if he had stabilized. However, it is a lens that you will not sell easily once supplied. |
sent on November 23, 2022 Pros: First-class performance, versatility. Value for money in kits. Cons: The zoom dial I would have preferred closer to the body. Opinion: Taken as a kit with the Z6II, it's an absolutely crazy lens throughout. The optical yield is first in class in its category, very sharp but not excessively contrasted, very little flare and minimal distortion. A lens of those that are worth the kit and with which you can do everything. Yes, because not only is it very sharp but also has a really remarkable boken making it also suitable for portraits. The only flaw for me is a bit 'the arrangement of the rings, I would have preferred that of the zoom closer to the body because when you turn it, you tend to unbalance the body / lens group not being able to rest your wrist on the back of the camera during rotation. Super recommended optics for the Z system. |
sent on October 11, 2022 Pros: An excellent zoom to have always grafted, or at least in the bag. Cons: A pity not to have it. Opinion: Excellent lens from all points of view. When I switched to the Z system I turned up my nose for the plastic construction of the lenses, but using them I had to change my mind about everything. It has replaced the 24-70 f4S of the initial kit very well, and together with the Z20mm f 1.8S they constitute my current optical park that for now I have no intention of expanding. Both lenses have the 77mm filter pitch and I could store the adapter ring once and for all, it is not a determining factor for a purchase, I know, but a plus of convenience in practical use absolutely yes. Very sharp, just a little larger in size than the 24-70 and not too heavy, mounted on the Z7 forms a very well balanced whole. It is built well, but above all it works well, fluid zoom ring and very fast focus. Brava Nikon, although you could have done it before. |
sent on August 23, 2022 Pros: A canvas that does many things, very well. Cons: Perhaps the lack of stabilizer, Opinion: After several reflections and insights and in an attempt to rationalize my equipment, I decided to sell the 24-70 f4 and z 24-200 and move on to buying this z 24-120 F4. I was a bit hesitant given the not very positive opinions of the F4 G ED VR, but once mounted on my Z7ii, I had to change my mind and a lot. Meanwhile I must say that I have reduced my equipment to only three lenses z 14-30 f4 Z 24-120 F4 and Z 20mm f1.8. At the moment with these optics I cover all my needs, from landscape photos, to portrait to reportage and night photos and sports photos in particular roller skating. I must say that the 24 120 F4, will be the lens that will allow me to realize about 70% of the photographic work with my great satisfaction from all points of view. It has a good construction, a widely bearable weight, excellent finishes and although it is not stabilized, it uses the stabilizer on the sensor of the Z7ii so there are no problems in this regard. A wide focal range, which can be extended using the DX mode and with the 47 mpx of the Z7ii we do not lose either in resolution or in sharpness. We can therefore count on a handyman with high image quality, sharpness and dynamic range, all enclosed in a single lens, of which I highly recommend the purchase. |
sent on April 18, 2022 Pros: The true all-rounder, he does everything and well! Cons: At first it was very difficult to find. Now I would say that it just has no defects! Opinion: Do you know the Nikon Af-S 24-120 F4 G ED VR ? Here, you can forget it and enter another level of quality where the lack of sharpness will remain a memory .. Larger and more robust than the 24-200 Z F4-6.3, it does not have VR but relies on the stabilization of the Z bodies. It is covered in plastic material, but you still perceive a good build quality and excellent zoom accuracy, keeping the weight well balanced even at 120mm. It has a fabulous engraving and a beautiful TA blur, perhaps superior to the SIGMA 24-105 F4 ART, which until now I considered the best all-rounder in production! I think it is the perfect choice for those who want to go out without carrying too much weight, but always counting on a very high quality in any condition. It is worth all the money it costs, and does not regret faster openings (except for very specific needs) I am sure that it will soon become the best buy of wedding photographers and those who travel light with only one glass! |
sent on February 14, 2022 Pros: Versatility, F/4 on the entire focal length, image quality Cons: For now nothing Opinion: I bought this lens to replace the excellent 24-200 z f/4-6.3 as the focal range that I use most for landscape and travel photos rarely goes beyond 120 mm; also a diaphragm f / 4 more open on all focal lengths and a rendering of images worthy of S-line lenses allows me to use it also for other genres such as photos of events in low-light environments or portraits ... in short, a true all-rounder. Also to be appreciated is the fact that in case of need on the z6II you can set the format of the sensor in DX which then makes it a 180mm without losing excessively in terms of quality. Excellent build quality and well balanced on the z6ii, very useful the function button on the lens to which I assigned some quick commands. |
sent on January 03, 2022 Pros: One of the best all-rounder zooms, the focal length range covers almost all photographic needs, with the exception of specialist ones. Efficient color rendering, excellent contrast and tonal range. Excellent even at full opening Cons: A slight vignetting at f/4 correctable in PP, pesantuccio and maybe a little expensive, but it is an S-line zoom Opinion: Great all-rounder zoom to take with you when you don't want weight. I've been using it with satisfaction for a few days on Z9 and it's amazing. At the moment I do not find flaws but honestly I have only taken a few hundred shots. I believe that the Z optics are far compared to the corresponding ones with F-mount. I don't know if it's also thanks to the Z9, but it's certainly a well-built and well-balanced goal. |
