Pros: Solid and robust construction, small size and weight for a lens like this, internal zoom and focus mechanisms, VR optical stabilization integrated into the lens, remarkable sharpness at all focal lengths, excellent value for money, compatibility with 1.4x and 2x teleconverters with Z mount (even if this involves reducing the aperture by one or two f/stops).

Cons: None, taking into account the relatively 'cheap' cost compared to other Nikon lenses. The exception is the case not up to the product.

Opinion: Purchased a few days ago, I took some shots from the terrace of the house waiting to test it on birds and also on the moon: The first impressions are all positive (as indicated in the Pro section) and even the freehand use was well manageable with an excellent lens / camera balance. In my opinion, it deserves a score of 9.6/10

Pros: AF good (but not great for small subjects) good sharpness for a zoom with that excursion, focus at 1.3mt, price.

Cons: It is not S in the finishes, impractical ring for rotation (detaches) also you have to add a Swiss ark plate, strap attachments (without strap supplied), non-existent case (micro fiber).

Opinion: Fast as AF, but less sticky 3d ..........sharp (it is not the 800, or a fixed .. trivial). It weighs 2 kg + camera I use it with monopod or tripod and gimbal in case in the shed of the inserted photos. I use it with z9 (with z8 poorly balanced). the 800 and 100/400 more tenacious with AF in pre-shot, especially with small subjects!. better the pre-shot with larger subjects .. See jumping squirrel! I am satisfied and I think it is + that sufficient x avi. The 800 is magnificent but bulky, this is instead in the 50cm backpack.

Pros: Construction, does not stretch, short rotation zoom ring from 180 to 600, sharpness at TA, quietness, price.

Cons: Focus ring too far back, indecent case, obviously brightness.

Opinion: I'm excited about what my needs are; I can't comment on bird chase shots, for example, because it's not my field. It seems to me that the AF is very fast, very quiet, sometimes it goes haywire on distant subjects with little contrast or with little light, it will be because of the bone of the Z7 and the limited maximum aperture. As for sharpness it seems very good from edge to edge at 45 MP, which also allows important crops. After 4 years of waiting (and I guess evaluations on the competition) Nikon has churned out a prosumer product with an excellent quality/price ratio, basically a revised and improved upgrade of the best seller 200-500, whose major flaws in my use were the elongation and rotation of the zoom ring, which now in 70 degrees and with a smooth movement goes from 180 to 600mm. It wields well, I carry it around holding it by the tripod mount and it doesn't have the heaviness of 200-500+ FTZ (or the Sigma Sport monster) that I was forced to use while waiting. The blur seems pleasant to me, I don't have that three-dimensional effect that a 300/2.8 or other "exotic" lenses give that not for nothing cost much more. Zero internal reflections even by pointing directly at the sun. For me it's a point of arrival not being able to afford more, I think it's undoubtedly the definitive choice among the "cheap" superzooms for Nikon mirrorless. Price and versatility of this zoom against the "character" and brightness of super fixed telephones... To each his own choice. Ah I said, the only flaw perhaps is the position of the manual focus ring, which makes the grip a bit unbalanced, but I can't complain and I'm not complaining. Finally, VR... I get a bit fluctuating results, in a burst sequence, but it's too early to give an opinion, it's still 600 mm to manage. I posted in my meager gallery some photos at 45 MP, without any sharpening in post, so they can be improved. Greetings to all.

Pros: Very responsive autofocus, balanced on Nikon Z8 thanks to the fact that it does not extend into the zoom, excellent definition despite being a zoom.

Cons: Waiting for it for a long time.

Opinion: Arrived a few days ago directly from Nital, I was waiting because of the pre-order but the delivery was quite fast. Bought to replace the Sony 200-600 which I was totally satisfied with but the camera body I found a disaster so having all the rest of the Nikon kit I took the step and took the Nikon Z8 to which I added the 180-600 as far as birdlife is concerned. Very satisfactory first shots, in my humble opinion it is the twin of the Sony both in sharpness and in construction and balance, perhaps the Nikon is a hair faster with the focus but it could be an advantage also derived from the Z8 which I find to be a lightning bolt. I like very realistic colors and depending on the focal length and aperture used it gives a very pleasant blur. Even handhand it didn't break my wrists despite a fairly intense day, excellent the collar with the foot of the size that I think is right for transport, a flaw the lack of the swiss ark mount for the tripod, I remedied it with an adapter but it took very little to do the perfect things. I also find the price affordable for the product, if you compare the various universals you don't have to think about it for a moment. For me promoted with a 9.5 UPDATE October 2023 a flaw in my opinion serious is that the support collar if left loose so that you can rotate the lens after a while YOU OPEN(!!!!) and you risk finding the lens on the ground, bad thing Nikon is not possible to have to resort to an open and close of the fixing screw continuously. UPDATE January 2024. I bought a cover to protect the lens and I found it fantastic also because it covers the "foot" of the collar and this prevents it from opening as mentioned earlier in the comment, it is true that it costs over 100 coffees but it looks like a tailor tailor with excellent materials.

Pros: AF, sharp, lightweight, flexible

Cons: nothing

Opinion: for honesty I must say that for lack of time for now I tried it on ducks and grebes more than anything else, I made more than excellent impression fast autofocus as needed for birds in flight even suddenly, obviously does not have the detachment of the planes of a 600 f / 4 and being a zoom I suppose that loses even over long distances, I can recommend it especially for passerines having a focus at very close range
