sent on January 26, 2023 Pros: Compactness, sharpness, filterable, focal ranges Cons: Collapsible, price Opinion: Intelligent and well-reasoned optics. A lens that for its use covers most of the needs of a landscape photographer. I would like to have a fixed 14 f1.8 to make astro sooner or later from nikon for attack Z away mirage. Made more than excellent even on the edges does not disfigure at all compared to its older brother 14-24 f2.8 which costs almost double. Filterable even with circular filters, which is very rare on such a wide angle. Construction with modern and valuable plastics. Compact and lightweight. A small miracle of optical engineering. I do not like the unlock for the use of the optics I find it a bit cheap. Overall an excellent glass that I would recommend to those who arrive of the Z system. Today's price a bit expensive € 200 less than price lists would be the right value. |
sent on March 08, 2021 Pros: Compactness, sharpness, focal, circular filters Cons: Only the price Opinion: I waited a while before writing mine on this lens, because already possessing the 20mm f1.8 and the 14-24 2.8 (Nikon) I had doubts about this f4 glass. Well, I can say that the incision is very similar to that of the 14-24, but it distorts much less and the yield covers the whole frame quite well. Having such a focal point, which reaches 30mm, on such a compact and light body is an immense pleasure for me! You can go out light while still being able to count on the great quality of the best Nikon lenses without taking up too much space in the backpack... A dream come true! The constant opening f4 is enough and advances for 90% of uses, and in case of indoor photos, you can still count on the excellent resistance to high iso of FX Z sensors. Really now I no longer see the need to invest important figures on faster (and heavier) openings In addition, as already mentioned in many reviews, the possibility of using screw filters still increases the practicality and usability of this lens. Too bad for the price far too high, but as always the quality you pay. |
sent on February 10, 2021 Pros: Size, sharpness, use circular filters Cons: I would say nothing Opinion: I also switched to the Z system for the choice of the highest quality and small size objectives, characteristics that this objective fully respects! Sharpness is almost all over the frame great, very light loss of detail at 14 mm angles, but seriously is it a problem? I don't think so! It also allows the use of circular filters that are fundamental to me also to respect the "sense" of having a mirrorless FX, quality and portability! |
sent on October 08, 2020 Pros: Yield, lightness, clutter, the ability to mount filters without fainting. Cons: Distortion correction cannot disable sharp angles at 14mm. Opinion: Reading the various reviews many find this optics excellent in sharpness even at the edges. I'm partly in agreement but we have to start from 16mm and up. Yes because a14mm the corners can not be looked and the difference between a perfect copy and a no is a bale, in my opinion. If you work in a certain way with bubble machine and particular situations with medium diaphragms then it looks excellent as optics. If you decide to take it around street or in the woods without considering those above rules you will always notice its limits at 14mm that is clear. Overall I call it more than good but the price is high, rating8.5.I wanted to make an update to this view in positive ,having tried it little I did not realize that I mounted on a uv filter hoya good but not great, well, removing the filter I noticed an improvement visible at the edges and in general as sharpness. Conclusion the lens I like is not perfect but it goes more than well always remains at 14mm a little kneaded in the corners but without uv filter much sharper, I learned from this experience that you never have to be superficial and go in a hurry when you judge and try an optics change my judgment and my vote to a nice 10 and I apologize if I was pessimistic and negative about the optics. |
sent on October 08, 2020 Pros: It is crisp, compact, light and 100mm slab filters. Cons: No one at the moment. Opinion: I use this lens only for landscape photos on the Nikon Z7, with excellent results that I never thought I would achieve with an F/4 goal. It turned out to be a great companion of outings at sunrise and sunset and never disappointed me. I used a D850 with a Tamron 15-30 f 2.8, amazing machine, excellent target, which with the holder and the 150 mm plates exceeded abundantly 2 kg. I switched to Nikon's mirrorless Z system and the Z7 I matched this 14-30 that with the holder V6 of Nisi 100 mm exceeds the weight of 1 kg and I get landscape photos on par if not higher than the reflex. Very satisfied, I recommend it without a doubt to lovers of landscape photo, rating 10. |
sent on September 10, 2020 Pros: Sharpness, yield, lightness Cons: Nobody Opinion: I used this lens during the summer and I can say I am really satisfied. Great sharpness even at the edges, light and super portable really gives us a fantastic image quality. I am not a professional photographer but I would recommend it because the rendering coupled with the fantastic Z7 gave me great satisfaction. Great range of focals, wide enough. I did not find great distortions, automatic correct in the car, excellent colors, flare content. Really glad I bought it. If we really want to find the hair in the egg it's not f 2.8 but I think in the night can still be able to say its in a more dignified way. But I really struggle to find cons because it really seems like a job well done by nikon overall, as well as the whole Z system. |
sent on December 10, 2019 Pros: Sharpness, linearity, absence of any optical problems Cons: Nothing Opinion: Like 24-70 f.4, this lens is set with a different philosophy from the Nikon AF S -ED objectives and all the others of the past. No problem with distortions, AC, light drop. If there are software fixes, they are welcome. ( Think Fujifilm, which has always applied internal fixes to its goals. The result is excellent at all focal points. Great Nikon. Rating 10 |
sent on December 09, 2019 Pros: Weight, footprint, the ability to use 14mm slab filters without vignette, excellent central sharpness. Cons: High distortion, resolved via firmware by the machine with some damage to the corners. Collapseable structure. Price. Opinion: I bought this optics with many expectations. The set of its characteristics makes it a unique object. The overall yield if diaphragm is very good even if the distortion to the wide focals is huge, visible with sw that do not apply automatic corrections. It is corrected by the machine or sw with some damage to the corners that lose enough sharpness. However, I continue to consider it a must have for the landscaper, perfect for travel, usable with 100mm slabs at all focal points. A mole as for all ML optics is the focus by wire system that creates big manual focus problems if you try to focus in infinity. |
sent on November 16, 2019 Pros: Weight, compactness, sharpness, flat front lens to be able to mount filters Cons: Collapsible Opinion: I've tried it thoroughly these days, especially at EICMA: exceptional sharpness at the edges, no distosion (correct in the car? could be, but you don't notice anything). Light and compact is handy, the flat front lens that allows the mounting of filters (polarizer or UV protection) is excellent. In short, really good. I am puzzled by the fact that it is collapsible: closing it and reopening it is inconvenient and for a long time I fear it can become a source of games. But it's a small price compared to the many merits. I had 28 others before (true that they were f. 2.8) but there is no comparison as results, even compared to the noble and expensive and heavy Nikkor . |
sent on October 28, 2019 Pros: compactness, sharpness Cons: a little flare in the backlights Opinion: this view has provoked countless discussions, which, based on my experience, I can safely say that I do not understand. The shots made with this 14-30 are beautiful, sharp and with more than reasonable distortions. using it often in the backlight with the sun framed, the only flaw I would point out is the presence of some abnormal flare sleight too. in conclusion, I would take it back tomorrow. |
sent on July 19, 2019 Pros: Sharpness, weight, compactness, screw filters Cons: nobody at the moment Opinion: Taken by very little and not yet tried to fully, but the first impression is great, starting from the fact that you can use 100mm slab filters, perfectly compatible with NISI v5 pro without vignette, excellent sharpness, weight and footprint really contained Flare, really minimal, the star in the backlight is not beautiful but not bad when I have tested it better I will update the comments |
sent on May 03, 2019 Pros: Compactness, possibility of mounting filters, optical performance (all) Cons: Nothing Opinion: Taken a few days ago, for now I just tried it but I'm convinced it will become my favorite lens. Lightweight and compact has impressive performance. No sharpness fall up to the edges, almost absent chromaticism, nearly invisible flare even with the sun in the frame, more than acceptable distortions; No lens had or tested until now (24-70 S excluded) approaching it. Even the mechanical construction is very good, of course it is all plastic but to me it looks of excellent quality. About the aperture is an F4. True, but at F4 is already at maximum performance and if this is the price to have a superwide angle of half a pound that I also in the pocket of the jacket to which you can fit the filters are well pleased to pay. Rated 10 |
sent on April 27, 2019 Pros: sharpness, compactness, lightness, construction Cons: nothing to be noticed, except for the not-high brightness, which is well known at the time of purchase Opinion: I only withdrew this objective yesterday and it is obviously too early to assess it with full knowledge of the case. At the moment, after using it today with the Z6, the impression is great, so much so that it does not at all regret the 14/24 that I have owned previously. Construction and appearance are similar to the 24/70 f:4, compared to which this lens looks even more compact and light. I reserve the right to try it thoroughly also with the Z7 and to integrate these first impressions that, I repeat, for now are very good, even in the sharpness. UPDATE ON 19/07 After almost 3 months I can confirm the first impressions. The optics, which I use on both Z6 and Z7, are very sharp on average for all focal points; the maximum yield is reached, on my specimen, around 20/22 millimeters with diaphragm F. 8. The yield at the edges remains always good and I cannot agree with the negative reviews of some reviews such as that of DxO concerning the modest engraving of this optics (there are others of the opposite sign), in my opinion very well aligned with that of 24/70 f:4 I also own. I can't say anything about any serious disparities in yield between the different specimens produced, as I have read in some reviews. If that were the case Nikon would not make us a good figure (but it would certainly not be the first: I will never stop regretting the glorious times of metal Nikons like Nikkormat, F, FM). |
