sent on October 04, 2022 Pros: Compact, weight, sharpness. Cons: Compact... maybe too much Opinion: A lens with a focal length that I have always hated and loved on SLRs. Sometimes short both on the 70mm side and on the opposite side of the 200mm. What about this excellent lens that has not yet been said or written. Coupled with R6 and R7 (so two bodys with stabilization on camera body) It has a fast, responsive and always efficient af, Hard to miss a shot. Colors and chromatic aberrations contained (it does not seem better than the EF version ...) Compared to the ef brother it has a higher price, (always L series we are talking about) But a weight and a much smaller footprint. Personally I preferred the EF f/2.8 models with variable zoom inside the barrel, which did not push, it is still a 70-200mm The hood is obscene and bulky, then the white color .... All in all it is a good optics, although on the photographic side I do not find big differences with the EF model. I believe that its purchase is recommended and justified to those who have an Rf kit and would like to add a medium canvas, I do not recommend it instead to those who still own the EF model, it would be a meaningless expense, if not for a speech of weight and size. |
sent on September 13, 2022 Pros: Sharpness, Microcontrast and Color Rendering. Compact, easy to handle. Hard to miss a shot with the AF set. Cons: Not compatible with any extender. External zoom (really obnoxious) Hood of very bad quality. (The window for filters opens continuously, never stands still). Back cover not comfortable. Lens material more plastic to the touch than EF. (It also gets dirty much more) Opinion: What can I say, excellent lens definitely. With its pros and cons mentioned above. Coupled with the R5 it has a crazy stabilization. Hard to miss a shot with AF. Compact definitely but I do not like the external zoom. The zoom ring is also much less fluid than the EF. Recommended? Yes! But eye that is really delicate despite the tropicalization. |
sent on June 13, 2022 Pros: Excellent yield, microcontrast, backlight resistance, fast, precise, compact in the bag Cons: it extends externally, in case of mud, dust etc you carry everything inside. RF CONNECTION PLUGS are shameful Opinion: Operationally speaking, the RF connection caps in optical changes are disgusting, they lose precious seconds in the impossibility of being inserted quickly, they close only through collimation that is poorly marked and requires eye contact, The EF closed without having to look at them. Bad, very bad. The optics are very compact at rest, but it extends to 200mm, well, but not very well, in case of mud, water and dust you do not work in "comfort zone", at the end of the day drying salts (many) and more frequent revisions. Compared to the EF model it does not give the feeling of "immortality". File rendering: Nothing that has not already been said. It does the job |
sent on October 10, 2021 Pros: Compactness, color rendering, blurred, operating speed Cons: Nobody Opinion: Great lens with excellent sharpness even over long distances. Excellent color rendering, particularly appreciable on portrait, with more open shadows than other canvases such as the 100-400 IS2 (but also 70-200 of other brands had in the past) and remarkable naturalness of rendering on the complexion. Excellent in backlight, both for the rendering of light sources and for reading shadows: on this undoubtedly the best lens I have ever had. Perhaps only the zooming can be improved, neither smooth nor braking enough to avoid accidental stretching. Excellent construction also of bracket and hood. Balance with the current bodies R not optimal I assume changes with R3. |
sent on September 17, 2021 Pros: Sharpness, autofocus, stabilization Cons: Only the price Opinion: Having owned the latest versions of the 70-200 f2.8 for SLRs, I can assert that since it is a super-proven optical scheme and a "mature" lens in terms of technological development, it was difficult to improve, at the state of current technical knowledge, their successor for mirror-less. Having said that, the objective does not disappoint at all, indeed it is actually better, than its predecessors, in several respects: silence (more and more account is taken of a possible use in the video field); stabilization (the synergy of the double stabilization on the sensor and in the lens, opens up scenarios as pleasant as unusual); autofocus very fast and more and more precise (difficult to put it in difficulty or make it lose a shot); weight and bulk that have been considerably reduced to the advantage of portability and handling, albeit at the cost of having adopted an extensible scheme that may not even appeal, however, to everyone. The sharpness remains the flagship, together with a blurred one that presents a smooth and "creamy" transition of the perspective planes. Finally, the color rendering is increasingly based on returning the colors in shades as natural as possible, without dominant. |
sent on April 14, 2021 Pros: all Cons: nothing Opinion: Let's leave aside the cost factor, quality pays off. Excellent color rendering and details throughout the range. Maximum reliability in any condition. Better than its predecessors EF series that were already top. The lens ring provides more freedom to program different settings. The Nano-USM system has its own because in pairing with R5/R6, spectacular gusts and AF seal, you can't ask for more. Great materials. The hook for the trepide seems uncomfortable but you get used to it. We recommend the firmware update from the site for performances that are constantly evolving. |
sent on March 17, 2021 Pros: sharpness, plasticity, stabilization, autofocus Cons: Nobody Opinion: We have to understand that the really important aspect of this perspective is being dedicated to the RF Canon system, and therefore not judging on its own. 9 out of 10 international brand comparison reviews, from the Canon system and this perspective as the best in the world. The already perfect definition in the ef system, has a big leap forward thanks to the wider annex; and less pull, which also improves dynamic range, peripheral light drop, color vivezza, exposure. Exposure, which thus, almost earns a stop. The somewhat disliked thing is the telescopic zoom, instead of the interior, which makes the purists turn their noses up a little: this system, until now, was relegated to the "bottle funds". But the designers took care of it. much of its aesthetic aspect, so I immediately got into the habit, indeed the old ef system is aesthetically "ancient". Very comfortable in transport, like the mountains on the r6, it roars. Hooks the subject and no longer drops it, returns a PERFECT stabilization up to 5 stops! in my case I took freehand photographs at 200mm at a 1/15! Perfect! I DO NOT recommend you buy it because you are competitors! ? |
sent on December 08, 2020 Pros: Weight, compactness, construction Cons: Not compatible with RF 1.4x and 2x extender. Obscene light. Opinion: Beautiful lens, with an indisputable optical quality. In combination with the R5 and eye focus it is deadly. Much smaller than expected, it is the same size as the 15-35 and makes it easy to transport even in a backpack. I found out after the purchase that it is not compatible with RF extenders, precisely because of the architecture of the optics so compact. I'm going to make a point of it. |
sent on January 06, 2020 Pros: All that has a 70 200 canon of the latest generation but in less clutter and weight. Cons: Maybe the price but technology has its own cost Opinion: I bought and sold the 70 200 l is II a couple of times because combined with the 5DIV I was heavy and cumbersome to go on holiday or take it around. Now with the R and this new RF things have changed considerably I enter ef16-35f4 , rf 24 105 f4 , rf 70 200 f2.8, a flash 471ex Ai with two bodies R in my 6LT messenger bag ,no more backpacking and sweaty back when I go for a walk or daily outings. Rating 10 |
sent on December 15, 2019 Pros: Compact Cons: Nobody Opinion: just arrived but it's love at first sight : compact and tried right away on the eos r : great results and beautiful images - to be a 2.8 is also sufficiently light and especially small in comparison to the ef goals . the first impression is that of extreme quality - it's been many years that I use canon but trying it gave me superb sensations |
sent on December 14, 2019 Pros: Compact - relatively light - very sharp - excellent stabilizer Cons: price (but it's inevitable) Opinion: I have owned it for a very short time, so far I have made about 300 shots, basically test. I have been photographing for over thirty years, and I have changed hands, over time, fairly complete kits of different brands, including Contax-Zeiss, Leica M and R, Nikon AI and AF, Pentax 67, Mamiya 645, Rolleiflex, Hasselblad and of course Canon EOS, from the first 620 in 1987 to the digital 5Ds. I'm not saying this for flobs, but only to confirm that Canon's new RF bayonet allows for designs as bold as they are valid. A 70-200/2.8 so compact and agile was a dream until a few years ago, now it's reality; Moreover, the and performance are not at all sacrificed by the type of construction, that is, with telescopic zoom instead of internal. The undoubted advantages of stowage in the bag/backpack are added to a much smaller weight than the corresponding EFs. Optically it does not disappoint: like the other RF realizations I have, it shows that it can do everything that the corresponding ef do, with better quality not only in axis, but especially in the peripheral areas of the frame, where most of the excellent EF series shows a bit of the rope, except generous diaphragm or less pushed projects (e.g. f/4 rather than f/2,8). The AF is lightning fast, although I noticed that at the first shot (as soon as you bring your eye to the crosshairs) it has a singular "come and go", a little unsettling. A matter of half a second, then once "activated" the AF is immediate and very precise, even in pursuit (I tried some seagulls in flight) All the focal points can satisfy even the most polished eye. The stabilizer seems to me to be the most efficient I have ever tried; I took several 70mm images with a laying time of 1/8" and even 1/6" achieving consistency of impeccable results. That is, not one every three or four, but all perfect. It's no small feat. I still have to try it well, but after thirty years of photography I think my first impression is not only dictated by the enthusiasm for the new purchase. An excellent professional lens, probably much better than the requirements of the excellent 30mpxl sensor of my eos r. Good light P.S. - I read here and there that some users complain of a focheggiating error in the conditions 200mm F:2.8 Minimum focus distance It even seems that Canon is going to provide a fw update to remedy the "problem". I personally performed some tests in those conditions, without detecting any errors; at least, this applies to my specimen, while remaining that, in the conditions described above, it is unthinkable to have no errors, except to use an easel, because of course if not the error would be attributable to the photographer and certainly not to the lens, since a swing forward or backward even a few mm leads to obvious blurringwith a canvas at full opening and at a reduced distance. P.S.2 Updated the optics fw, although in practical use, which in the meantime I have intensified, I never detected the problem. In any case, of course it is worth updating. Even in the portrait this lens does not make you regret the excellent fixed L series that I had before. Really an excellent achievement, excellent companion at 28-70/2 L with which constitutes an exceptionally versatile pair oer any condition of reasonably predictable light. |
sent on December 12, 2019 Pros: sharpness, blurred, construction, weight, clutter Cons: aesthetics when at 200mm Opinion: I start by saying that my yardstick for making comparisons remains the old Canon EF 70-200 F2,8 IS Mk2 so NOT THE THIRD VERSION. This new RF got me excited right away; sharpness, as was now obvious, reached an embarrassing level as it was sculpted. The blurry as always in full line with the f/2.8 of the House Canon... it does not disappoint, indeed... creamy and soft as always. I would simply say that they have brought back on the RF series all the qualities of the EF improving even important points as the clutter slits as closed at 70mm and stuck with leverage... takes up exactly half the space and that helps a lot. The weight is also lower but above all it is optimally balanced, more towards the machine body and this I think helps a lot also to force less on the rings of attacks. Really nice and useful the opening on the lampshade cap that allows you to adjust the rotation of a possible polarizing filter without needing to disassemble anything and/or stick your fingers in front of the frame... maybe the last EF optics had it too but I could not see... still a great idea. Fabulous construction; sturdy materials. Solid metals but with a matte finish that gives an almost plastic look to the sight but as soon as you put your hands on it you feel all the classic robustness of the L optics. Another wonderful aspect is the stabilization system... really good. Efficient: I sit quietly at 200mm at 1/60 if you have enough steady hand... If you rest an elbow, you also go down to 1/30 Excellent focus: for now no sign of uncertainty. The downsides are basically 2: FIRST: when stretching to 200mm, since the focus is no longer 100% internal, it is aesthetically less afhering than the old EF but is easily forgiven for the positive aspects arising in space. SECOND: The balance of weights towards the body is very comfortable when working and shooting but remains disliked when you have to rest the camera with optics and foot on a table... it no longer stays in balance but falls towards the body... nothing transcendental but if you were used to it, well this thing now stands out a thread. |
sent on November 29, 2019 Pros: Finally a 70-200 2.8 that you can always carry with you! Compact, well built although plastic, lightweight. Soft Blur! Cons: Paraluce that does not give at all, they could try one daisy although little indicated for the type of lens. Opinion: I'm not a pro and so I was waiting for a 70-200 2.8 to always carry with me, I prefer sincerely to scapita about the beauty of the lens..... But you know... the photos you make if you have the car with you! When it is closed you take it wherever you want, the weight is also very acceptable; from open is not beautiful (especially with the lampshade) but patience. The paint seemed a bit opaque and at first I was afraid that it was of the type "sigma" that after a while crumbled.... then looking good I saw that it is rigid white plastic, it seems unpainted so. The quality, even though I took it a few days seems great and one thing I immediately noticed is a very soft, beautiful blurry one. With the firmware of December 2019 the optics bought security in the AF, I made some portraits and did not miss a shot. We'll see later on for the rest. I gave a 9 for the lampshade |
