sent on August 15, 2023 Pros: Price, sharpness, AF, size Cons: Nothing Opinion: Taken used, I have been using it for several months. I also realized services of events not simple as to available light. He has always behaved well. Fast in hooking the subject, precise and silent. Sharp images even at TA, from 2.8 onwards (aperture I use more often) is a blade. It solves very well even on dated sensors type 5d MK2, what can I say? At the price at which you can find today and for the focal length that it is, it is an absolute must have. |
sent on April 01, 2023 Pros: Cost, yield Cons: Does not have the hood in the package, plastic construction, soft to TA Opinion: Optics with excellent value for money: if the portrait is not your bread and butter, it will allow you to enter that world without spending a capital ... Just close a stop sign to have a good sharpness: light, small, transportable, it is an excellent starting point. Also easy to find on the second-hand market. |
sent on April 01, 2023 Pros: Pros: Brightness, bokeh, weight/size, quality/price Cons: Chromatic aberrations Opinion: Definitely a classic of Canon, I tried it both on apsc and ff and has a yield that I always like very much, bright with a beautiful bokeh, sharp already at 1.8, af fast and precise, some forum user has rightly written "a series L missed" in fact I feel like sharing this opinion, the only note against are the chromatic aberrations / purple fringing that occur in certain situations of strong brightness. Value for money 10. Advised! |
sent on October 21, 2022 Pros: Economical, lightweight, compact, accurate and fast AF Cons: Unstabilized, Notable chromatic aberrations Opinion: I took this as my first specific portrait lens. The chromatic aberrations were remarkable on aps-c, definitely reduced when I switched to full frame on 6D but always present. It is the cheapest among the 85mm AF, with a decidedly high-performance autofocus compartment, fast and above all precise even with the sides. The lens is small and lightweight, a boon for transport. It is unfortunately not stabilized and the minimum focusing distance could have been lower. The blurry is good but not top. |
sent on September 03, 2022 Pros: Light, sharp, beautiful blurry but exaggerated at maximum aperture, autofocus fast enough Cons: For the price none Opinion: For the little that I used it in my opinion a good lens for portraits "close" without being stuck to the subject, I also did some landscape and does its duty. If you want to create context in the photo for me is not good, it tightens too much. Quite good color rendering, easy to carry. Hood a bit ridiculous but it's good for the cost / yield ratio is certainly not the hood the problem. Hello |
sent on August 30, 2022 Pros: good brightness and discreet blurred Cons: slow and not always accurate autofocus, sharpness at the edges Opinion: In my humble opinion it is for me a dated lens that new I would not buy again, it is convenient if used and purchased at a good price and if in good condition. Surely it works better on APSC machines than on FF machines. Honestly from a fixed lens I would have expected something more. And anyway, and it is my personal opinion, this lens has never convinced me to the end. |
sent on August 30, 2022 Pros: Lightweight, compact, bright Cons: Suffers from backlight, uncomfortable hood Opinion: This lens has just turned thirty... And if it is produced there will still be a reason. Excellent for portraits, blurred not incredible but in the face of the advantages (used cheaply and is available in large quantities, compact, sharp already at TA, quite light and bright the right) is not even a defect. Used both on FF and APSC I immediately liked, even if on the reduced sensor it is unsuitable indoors ... except for really large rooms. The hood has already been widely (and rightly) denigrated, I add that in backlight or TA has repeatedly wrong focus, even on R6 - fault of my specimen?. Given the age of the lens attention on the used, they all cost the same but you risk going fishing for the extra-old specimen. |
sent on May 03, 2022 Pros: Brightness, bokeh, price, weight/size Cons: maybe autofocus not very fast Opinion: I started using it on an Eos m50 for portraits and sometimes for indoor sports to take advantage of the brightness. In this context the autofocus shows some small uncertainty also due to the age of the project probably. However, it allowed me to take several photos that I could not take with other canvases. When I took the 6d I discovered that on FF it really gives the maximum, especially on portraits. Having never tried anything brighter (like sigma art) I can not make comparisons but for the 220 euros that I paid for it and for an amateur use I recommend it. |
sent on May 21, 2020 Pros: Bokeh, sharpness, AF fast, compact, reliable Cons: Nobody Opinion: I use it on a 70d, matched winning, purchased used at 170 degrees, and well immediately showed character, sharp at f1.8 let alone closing diaphragm to f4, the engine usm is very fast and silent the focus is precise to the maximum and finally gives us exciting photos for quality, I recommend it with my eyes closed. |
sent on May 01, 2020 Pros: Weight, cost Cons: Lens hood Opinion: this too like all my lenses taken used, just to try it and saw the price at which I found it.... but the little use, AF good, even if not very fast, tried also on moving subjects, but it is not ideal. Bad the lampshade, I find it very complicated its graft and its release, and being the original one I am a bit amazed. |
sent on March 07, 2020 Pros: Excellent sharpness and blurry, small and light lens Cons: autofocus not very fast but precise, unwatchable lampshade for practicality Opinion: Taken used last fall at a great price and with warranty, I used it in some fashion shows and for portraits at the Venice carnival. Used on Canon 6D. I have to say that, as mentioned by others, it has a very good sharpness from 2.8 onwards, although at more open diaphragms it is still very good. The autofocus, especially in suboptimal light situations is not very fast, but when it hooks it is accurate. Of course with open diaphragm really has a beautiful blur. Very light and short, here great to carry with, it has a really bad lampshade in the hooking, which is also found not only by me. |
sent on February 03, 2020 Pros: Bokeh, sharpness, AF lightning, compact Cons: It's a vacuum cleaner, stabilizer Opinion: I use it on apsc Bought second-hand at 230euro, regretted at most when at less than 250euro you bring it home brand new on global center patience. Nothing to say or almost about this jewel that pulls out spectacular portraits already at f2, allows you to take the entire subject by detaching it from the background giving a nice bokeh, the lack of the stabilizer can negatively affect with low times, the aberrations chromatics do not seem so excessive to me, excellent bokeh, sharpness of the images and a good blur with weight and contained shapes make it an indispensable tool in the backpack the real counter I would say serious enough is the easy infiltration of dust in the lenses, after having disassembled and cleaned up in a very short time is again full of dust and this is very serious and should not happen |
sent on January 19, 2020 Pros: Opening, sharpness, quality-price (also used), colors, af Cons: Nobody Opinion: I also own the 70-200 f/2.8 but I have to admit that often, when I carry them both, I use more this historic 85: it has a maximum opening of 1.8 that allows you to use it even in low light conditions, besides the sharpness is excellent already at TA, at f/2 then it is almost perfect, 0 abeerations chromatic and bokeh excellent and even the af does not joke (despite it is not a lightning). I always use it at parties or at the disco: paired with 28 f/1.8 |
sent on June 07, 2019 Pros: Strong sharpness, super speed and precision, gorgeous overall yield, pasty colors, microcontrasto, cost in the used Cons: Construction too small, if it had been a little older it would have had more ergonomics... otherwise given the price really nobody. Opinion: What to say, a classic perhaps of canon house, small but pure poetry, perhaps comparable even to the brothers of the L series, the first thing that amazed me is the sharpness already at 1.8, closed then it becomes sharp as a knife, of the general yield and colors then we do not talk about it, a pastiness and surprising delicacy .... I am also faster and much more precise than the 28-70 that I have in the kit, excellent focal point for portraits even in full length, for American plans then there is an absurd detachment with a splendid blurry ... it is true that it has some aberration but it is easily manageable in post, as for the construction if it had been larger it would have been perfect, I really recommend it to all those looking for a portrait optics not concurrent, that costs little and has high performance, highly recommended ! |
sent on February 17, 2019 Pros: Value for money, autofocus, compactness. Cons: AC, Lens hood coupling. Opinion: It is one of the historical optics of Canon production, still in the catalogue after many years. As focal length 85 mm on FF I find they are perfect for portrait. Compared to the competition affected by the dated project but not even disfigured in 2019. And it costs really little for what it returns. The lens hood is for a fee and has a very bad graft. |
sent on February 05, 2019 Pros: Perfect focal length for portraits, good even to TA becomes excellent by closing slightly, compact and lightweight, autofocus fast and accurate. Cons: Unstabilized but you know it before you buy it Opinion: I wanted to do portraits again and for me the 85mm are ideal. I could have made an effort and take directly the 85mm 1.4 but I preferred to spend much less to regain confidence with the focal. The lens turned out to be a guessed purchase. Very usable TA just close one stop to have an excellent performance. Excellent really blurry, unexceptionable autofocus for precision and speed. In short, a perspective that costs little and really makes a lot. The only limitation is the absence of stabilization but all in all it is not an insurmountable problem. It is certainly not comparable to the 85mm 1.4 stabilized, which I tried and I find stratospheric, but it costs less than a quarter. Recommended. |
sent on January 20, 2019 Pros: Very good from F2, super autofocus Cons: Antiquated design, embarrassing lens hood, minimum distance of MAF Opinion: Defined par excellence the optics from portrait, it pulls out of the images nothing bad even to f 1.8, closing gives the best of itself. Autofocus is fast and accurate. Some chromatic aberration but nothing disastrous. Personally I do not like the surrender of the old USM canon, characterized by slightly cold colors, as opposed to the canon sensors that push a little more towards the warm colors (purely personal opinion). Let's not talk about the lens hood, please, uncomfortable and done on purpose to break at the first opportunity. As other Canon fixed the focus distance is nice long, we're almost at the meter away, so forget about details and close up with this lens. Also be careful not to stay too close otherwise nothing yellow dot fixed and no pictures. It's a project that Canon has been carrying on for almost 30 years, and canon is not worthy of upgrading the mid-range lenses like this, although it churns 4 SLR's per year in the consumer and semi Pro range, too bad. |
sent on September 04, 2018 Pros: Bokeh, very bright lens, colors, softness and price Cons: Lens hood Opinion: I bought this optics in the United States at an excellent price and I could not be more satisfied. The bokeh is superb, with the right angle are magnificent portraits (although you have to be careful, the lens does not have the hood included of which, however, I have not heard too much about the lack). Although many say that it is a against the minimum distance of focus, I find myself perfectly comfortable and is a lens that I'm liking indigo to manage. The colors are fantastic and maintains a softness of the image that I really like a lot. This lens has been on the market for years because it keeps returning incredible images. 10 and praise with low hands |
sent on August 05, 2018 Pros: Bokeh Colors Price Cons: Lens hood Opinion: Fantastic lens for the price and the date of birth. If it is still on the market a reason is there and I would say more than one. I use it on APSC for portraits and it is superb. Its softness is a merit and not a defect in my opinion. Overly etched lenses are too sharp are not the best for portraits according to the way I see it. The wonderful colors and the complexion is fairytale. Vote 10 and praise. |
sent on July 19, 2018 Pros: Bokeh, Colors Cons: Sharpness, minimum focus distance, AC noticeable Opinion: It's a good lens, stop. The colors that returns are pleasing, on a FF the cut is very pleasant, but I expected more, much more in terms of sharpness, based on the reviews that preceded me (although I noticed that what took it-rightly-distances): at full aperture It is excessively soft (for my taste), improves by closing the diaphragm. Unfortunately, in my opinion, also loses in comparison with the more "modest" 50stm always in terms of sharpness and minimum distance of focus; While, as for color and portability nothing to plead. Maybe someday I will buy it back, but for now I do not feel the need. |
sent on April 07, 2018 Pros: Brightness and nice blur, fast AF, size and weight Cons: You feel the lack of a stabilizer (but at that price you can not ask too much), AC not indifferent, minimum focusing distance Opinion: I bought this lens about three years ago. I start immediately by saying that at 1.8 is difficult to use because of the AC, that closing a bit ' the diaphragm are felt less, idem for the sharpness not excellent to 1.8 but already "average/good" to 2.8 (unfortunately never comes to be decidedly sharp). The focus is pretty fast and I haven't found any dust or the like between the lenses so far. The construction in my opinion is definitely good considering that during a trip (alas!) I knocked him to the ground violently and came out with just a scratch (not on the lens fortunately) and working perfectly. Overall I recommend it to anyone looking for a lens for closeups and can't spend big digits, but don't expect a super sharp optics as you might get out of certain reviews. P.S. I do not have the lens hood but I never missed it. EDIT. I use it on APSC. |
sent on March 20, 2018 Pros: Bright, fast AF, sufficiently sharp Cons: Not immune to dust, AC, Lens hood Opinion: It is not an L-series as it also dates back to 20 years ago and should be remembered. The market price is on the 250 and that amount I recommend it to anyone. The AF is not lightning fast but quick enough, the ACS are there and you have to manage them... especially with sun versus or lateral, the sharpness is good (I suggest to use it from F2 onwards) at the maximum loses something. I mean, it always gives me satisfaction. I also have the 135 which, however, sometimes stays at home while the 85 in virtue of the fact that it is not heavy nor massive a niche always finds it in the bag. The lens hood is quite ridiculous as an attack and tends to break loose but let's say it's a manageable limit... just be careful not to lose it if you hold the shoulder (success) The Big Brother 1.2 and the new 1.4 are certainly another thing but for those who is not a pro and wants to amuse s I with a portrait lens getting good results without opening a mortgage I recommend it. Wait before you buy it to the health of the lenses... a little dust inside is not problematic but look at it well before you buy it |
sent on March 20, 2018 Pros: very bright optics, pleasant boken effect, focusing speed Cons: aberrations Opinion: I bought this lens to make the first and first floors and my first impression when I picked it up was positive: compact, light and well balanced with my 80d. the text immediately to f1.8 and gives me some photographic and videographic joys, but behind the great brightness that this lens offers, there are some aberrations that have ruined filming and photos in the presence of light on the subject. these aberrations I happened on about 5 photos in 10 with sunny, somewhat annoying! if we want to talk about the rest, fully satisfied with the purchase, considering that it costs on the new 330 and on the used you can get even 200/250 euros. I think that at f1.8 it does not express itself at its best, but already starting from f2 or f2.2 we already see a marked improvement. the speed in focusing is fast and above all precise. gave me great joy and so it is an 'optics that I recommend.rngli give a nice 7 because on the first floors gives the best and is definitely a good lens to start! |
sent on February 07, 2018 Pros: Very balanced optics. Nitida, excellent focus, Af fast, beautiful colors and very compact Cons: It is not tropicalized (although for this type of focal I do not see the need) Opinion: Great optics. I also own the 135 f2 but I find this more practical. Defocused very pleasant, fast and reactive optics and above all compact and light. Its practicality allows me to use it often. It's convenient if I go out with a single lens with the 6d I have a light body and I do not miss anything. It also keeps pace compared to 135 less than very narrow portraits in which the 135 is really a must. rnThe optic is very cheap especially when compared to other brands and practically free from obvious defects (I still have not encountered problems of chromatic aberration). For who wants to dedicate to the portrait the straconsiglio as the first optic both on aps-c and on FF. rnI would like to try it on a light body like 200d or M6, it would be a great combination for practicality and lightness. rnTrovo the optimal color rendering. In short, I consider myself 100% satisfied |
sent on July 17, 2017 Pros: Sharpness, Bokeh, weight, value for money Cons: AC not so disabling though slightly present, tremendous hail attack, AF not so fierce as many claim Opinion: Purchased used after the 100f2 strike, a lens I worshiped as a rendered but as a focal length gave me the feeling of being sometimes along other shorts. We say 85mm is the cousin 100's narrower but much more inflatable given its use also For those who have the APSC format. So sold to a friend the 50 stm I was really amazed I found the 85 used by a forum user at a more than acceptable price. I found that this focal length I love and I love to recommend it as it allows you to range from a set portrait / full figure without having too much space between you and the subject (thus avoiding interfering in the middle of things / things) on the tight first plane Approaching the subject. Let's say I'm one who loves paired 35-85. The Bokeh is great, the high level clarity, a weight that makes the 85mm-6D kit great. As for the confrontation with rivals: -I Tamron 85mm 1.8 I excluded because of the same diaphragm is 2 times more expensive, 2 times moreHeavy and did not give me the feeling that he could be the ultimate goal, as in fact I did not even own the canon, but the expense and the ability to sell it quickly without big losses calmed me. - The sigma 85mm 1.4 art had seriously evaluated it as 1.4 and the bokeh that could make me curious. But reading several magazines and discussions here in the forum I found that it is compared to KING (Canon f1.2 L) but in reality there are concerns about the "true" focal that seems to be more than an 80mm and especially with regard to the Bokeh . Now I belong to the array of semi-pro photographers who if they look for a portrait portrait in order evaluate Bokeh and Central Sharpness. To have a crazy sharpness from one end to the other at the 1.4 or 2 ends I do not care much since first of all it is not a 35mm in which it would be a fundamental feature, if I want the sharpness just close at f4, f5.6 and Also the good canon 85mm 1.8 from crazy results (over 3200 LW%2FPH photozone.de data). In any case, if I buy a 85mm, 90% of the photos will have f <2.8 so in search of a bokeh more or less intense. In light of these considerations I was told to spend 1200 euros and have a 1130g lens for these features it was not the case at that point I would dictate the King used at the same price and weight but let's say it ... f1.2 rnThen my Opinion and how I got to buy the 85mm f1.8 I would do 100 more times. |
sent on June 28, 2017 Pros: Sharpness, beautifully blurry, discreet and unobtrusive Cons: Powder enters, IS is missing Opinion: It was my first fixed focal point, still used in lire, I still have it, and it is perhaps my favorite target, though not what I use most. The yield is already good at TA, very good at f2.5-2.8, fantastic at f4-5.6-8, where it reaches peaks of incredible sharpness across the entire frame. Without distortion, it has a very small and very marginal vignetting, only to TA. Well contrasted, it returns saturated but realistic colors. The bokeh is beautiful, creamy, along with sharpness is its main value. I'm convinced that it's so blurry so soft to say "wow!" To those who look at the photos taken with this view. The three-dimensionality of the images is marked, almost palpable, I still remember some slides that looked like images in 3D. A "problem" related to these qualities is that using it becomes much more demanding with all the rest of the equipment: in fact in my case Is due toHe was my next unremitting quest for improvement of the kit, and my sudden abandonment of goals that I first considered good. An annoying defect is the tendency to accumulate dust inside. If it were not for this and had the IS would be perfect. RnI do not mean to say "it's not very versatile" because an 85mm you rate it as 85mm, you can not say that a mountain bike is unsuitable for the asphalt ... rnAggiorno after a lot of shots with the 5D mkII: Lens seems to have improved, compared to the 5D old, the impression is that the sensor density of 21 mpx allows the lens resolution to express itself better. The fact is that even at TA the details are sharp and sharp, and at f2.8 they become crazy, engraved incredibly. I have a series of faces shots where I do not have the ability to present - even before applying any sharpening - more engraved than those performed with 24-70 f4 L and with the 200 f.2.8 L diaphragm at f5.6 And sharpened. The dettaglI'm such that in practice sharpening does not work. I think the 85 f1.8 / 5D mkII combination is somewhat magical for some reason: I did not think about moving around looking at the eyes of the subject photographed, but with this coupled thing is what happens ... |
sent on April 04, 2017 Pros: Cost, weight, bokeh, af rapid Cons: Sharpness acceptable TA Opinion: very valid objective for what it costs. By spending more you can get much better as the big brother 1.2. It can also be used for sport as opposed to the 1.2. Compared al1,2 is more "all round". I use it primarily to TA or maximum 2.2 where it is not a blade, being a project dated from the best of some closed stop. |
sent on March 24, 2017 Pros: Precision and speed AF Cons: chromatic aberrations Opinion: I used this in mind for a few years on both APS-C and on FF. The yield is always great, very beautiful colors and blurry. sent on February 22, 2017 Pros: color rendering, q / price ratio, compactness, out of focus Cons: Purple fringing in certain backlight situations Opinion: I waited before writing this short review because I wanted to try it. I purchased it for portraits and this use refers to the review. Before I shot with the 50mm f / 1.8; since I started using the 85 I find it hard to go back to 50. Colors and embodied much more beautiful, a great focus. I must admit to not having experience with superior optics to this but the 85 f / 1.8 is a purchase for which they are fully satisfied. Even the focus coupled to 40D works well. On APSC "it makes" as a 135mm. Maybe on FF it might be a little 'short. |
sent on February 21, 2017 Pros: Small and light Cons: Minimum distance MAF, most copies are fine but there are also new busts. Opinion: Unfortunately I can not associate with the many positive opinions on this lens, I really have not had the minimum time. I bought this new lens about a month ago and I realized right away that something was wrong. He suffered from fear front focus, I had to microadjust in the car to-20 and it wasn't enough either. The sharpness left much to be desired. I had to return it after 3 days, I did not want to go to the CS or try a new one. I'm still looking for an 85mm. In truth some alarm bells about the variability between specimens, to read well all the reviews here present, there has been and well described, it is a gigantic flaw that important houses should avoid like the plague. I will try to take another copy and update the review. Upgrade: I took a copy used to the CS of Rome and is spectacular, I am very satisfied with 250 euros I have a very good 85mm. Upgrade: I'm on the 3rd model and this is also fine, it can happen the copy is wrong but if you find the right one with 300 euros you bring home a great lens. I have to say again that I had in the time Canon 85/1.2, Tamron 85/1.8 VC and Canon 85/1.4 L IS But on the road and dynamic situations I still prefer this. |
sent on December 02, 2016 Pros: Quality on the cheap Cons: Careful to strike the right example Opinion: A quality canvas in all respects, sharpness even at TA, yield uniformity over the entire field, fast and accurate AF, low distortion, compact, great blurry. rnPurple fringing present at full aperture in extreme contrast transitions in the case of scenes with hard light can give fastidio.rnUnica negative note ... it would seem to be a project that more than others is sensitive to diseallineamenti at production / assembly. I saw him in service as fractions of mm of the optical calibration ant. They can strongly influence the performance. rnSono stumbled upon a first copy which was sharp in the center but had the right part of the field out of focus a lot (tilt), also diaframmando.Alla order was sostituito.rnE 'an objective in production for more than 20 years and has definitely had some small changes over time. Surely one of the electronic circuit, documented by a site (look for silent upgrades). I would recommend taking it back or, if used, a recent production. |
sent on December 01, 2016 Pros: AF speed and accuracy, crisp even at TA, copatto, slight and with a nice blurry Cons: chromatic Abberazione Opinion: Both of which FF on APSC with emotions, the old optical design is still valid in this era with high performance optics and impressive color abberazioni is the only defect. Sure that everything is resolved with correction of lens profile with various software but sometimes there is to work at it a bit more. The price / performance ratio (new and used) will appreciate this. |
sent on June 29, 2016 Pros: Crisp, bright, great bokeh, good AF Cons: minimum distance of fire of almost one meter, no hood Opinion: A great lens whose greatest flaw is the minimum distance of 0,85m fire, which in my humble opinion is simply insane, and that limits use for different types of shots. For the rest there is little to complain for this price range is extraordinary. He came out a MKII with a focus distance under 30cm (many of its competitors have even 10cm focus distance, such as Samyang) would be perfect. |
sent on April 07, 2016 Pros: Bright, crystal clear already at TA, blurred fabulous, fast, lightweight AF Cons: chromatic aberrations and vignetting to TA Opinion: The use of 5D old, and it's really a unique show, if you are interested in the portrait is a necessary purchase, quality / price very good. Blurred creamy and sharpness already at 1.8, can also be used indoors since the AF very fast, the construction is not from L series, but not even by "plasticotto", only negative notes (but that are fixed in one minute on lightroom) are the chromatic aberrations present in large openings and vignetting at room temperature (although in the case of close-ups do not mind at all!) also in the field street is able to give great shots :) |
sent on March 29, 2016 Pros: fast and accurate AF. Optimum efficiency even with TA. Beautiful blurred. Compact and lightweight. Cons: Hood necessary and indispensable. Opinion: This is an objective that, according to those who use FF or APS-c, has different characteristics and qualities. I have used it on both a format that the other and I always had excellent results in the quality and overall yield of the shots. The hood must always be mounted so as not to run the risk of ruining the result with major flare. The AF is quick and accurate, and, as obvious and predictable that it is, in TA you have to be more than attentive to the smallest displacement of the distance to the subject. Great goal. Beautiful overall yield and great satisfaction. I would definitely recommend buying possibly used in conjunction with the lens hood. |
sent on February 13, 2016 Pros: Light, bright, crystal clear, fast AF Cons: extra lens hood Opinion: I love this and I love this lens focal length. It gives very sharp images even at room temperature with a great fuzzy, at least considered what it costs. AF fast, good solid construction, light and compact it to me I always keep in the bag along with a few wide angle, and with little weight and volume have everything 'I need. I highly recommend it to those who make portraits half-length or full-length or even street and stolen portraits, but I also used indoors in ceremonies or events, and thanks to its brightness' (and 6D!) I do not think you could ask for + plus if you make good targeted research you will see that even with big brother Canon 85 1.2 has to say in a few things clear. Also on APSC 136 1.8 magnificent; clear that all objectives bright chudendo + becomes a little clearer. Hopefully Canon will continue to do so targets. |

sent on December 15, 2015 Pros: Construction, haptics, bokeh, cost, vignetting virtually absent .. Cons: guilty of sharpness and suffer from chromatic aberrations obvious, weight Opinion: an optical good but not great, I was slightly disappointed with the sharpness is not very high; still remains a good lens in terms of portraiture. I will say that maybe I lacked a model but not off to the sufficiency from the background, I would not evaluate a lens excellent, although I repeat for the portraits is really good in that it returns a very good complexion |
sent on November 16, 2015 Pros: Size, construction, focus, money, sharpness Cons: for use as no real fault Opinion: It 'the first lens that I added to that of the kit of aps-c, such as optical picture, and that is that I end up using even more now in FF (where it seems you are also more at ease, I think for the sensor less dense: 20MP FF 6D account of the APSC's 18MP 100D), especially for portrait indoors, the situation in which they often do not have large spaces in which to move. It is not a perfect lens, maybe it is not surgical wide open, but its shortcomings are often irrelevant in ritrattistica.rnUltimo precisely, but not insignificant at a time when many new fixed lenses are large and heavy as the handyman series L: is a compact lens, and it does not occupy half a backpack. |
sent on March 21, 2015 Pros: unbeatable service, blurred, versatility of FF. Cons: optical quality excellent build quality is overall very good but not at the level of a professional optical. Opinion: After much meditation I chose 85 as 1.8 mm optical portrait on FF, I already had a 100mm and 50mm 1.8 but found them both unsatisfactory in some respects. If you choose the 85 with awareness is an optical fantastic! Has inherent limitations in its nature, is not particularly crisp up 2.8 and suffers a bit against the light, but if you take note of these limits everything is joy. The focal length is great for moving around the subject without specific limitations due to the conformation of the location, the blur is pleasant even and soft. I do not understand some of the criticisms on the minimum distance of 85cm focus are ideal for the portrait if you try different performance you have to go on another kind of lens! And then the hood bought on the internet also original does not cost that much. The fact to point out that this is not a series L is a trivial assertion, in any case not think you can make a comparison with the 85 L as they are completely different optics which have in common only the focal lengthyou do not believe that for many photographers 85L is necessarily the best choice. In conclusion choose this perspective with awareness and do not feel the defects, but if you look for high resistance to flare, super sharpness to TA, tropicalization and minimum focusing distance of very low look elsewhere. |

Good mechanical construction. Focus USM. Cons: The hood is not supplied with the unit. The minimum distance of focus is a little too long. The USM motor, compared with that of optical most recent, is not very fast. Missing stabilization. The yield of the fuzzy is pleasant and at the same time the sharpness is elevata.rnChi is used only to zoom should try at least once yield fixed focal length of a lens, maybe combined with the use of openings that no zoom you can afford; This is a lens that allows you to try such a "thrill" .rnIl price, then, it is perfectly reasonable (at least to me). Used on APS-c was my lens for portraits. Spectacular bokeh, color rendition and sharpness. On FF I find it a bit 'short but always returns good images. The use of APS-C with great satisfaction, although in some situations interior is a little long. The abberazione cormatica however, is not a problem since it is easily fixable in post-production. The attack of the hood is not the best. It is rolling like most of the goals but a snap, with two "buttons" at the bottom to remove it. It can be uncomfortable when you are in a hurry. |

Cons: No lens hood Opinion: Even if it does not cost a fortune, a shred of hood could give it to you .... That said, I ended up with the criticism and start with the praise. In my opinion it's a great canvas, holding and assessment in a consistent manner from any point of view it is considered. Maybe he has a few requirements that make you say "Oooooohhhh" but did not find a flaw if you do not look for the nitpicking. What can I say? OKAY! E 'solid in construction, in solid prestaziooni, solid in the reliability of results, solid under all points of view. I use it to hunt down special (landscapes, cityscapes, art, portraits, flowers, cats, etc..) And I enjoy a lot with great satisfaction. Rated 10 because at that price you everything you'd expect and then some more, and then more of a laboratory analysis has found performance almost indistinguishable from the big brother L. Sleek and stylish, in my view on APS-C f2 better than the 100 because it is more in the range of focal lengths of mediotele and is more useful in portraiture and photo of thatthe. I read that it has a system of attachment of the hood a little 'Barbini: I think, given the focal length, you can very well go on a generic lens hood with screw: you save money and will bypass the problems. |
sent on December 27, 2013 Pros: Quality / price ratio, brightness, blur, sharpen. Cons: System for attaching the lens hood Opinion: If you love portrait photography and you can not spend a fortune for the 85 L, this lens will make your happiness. It is compact and lightweight, has a very good AF, it has a nice yield of TA and blurred a bit by closing the diaphragm has exceptional sharpness. The only flaw is the hood that, in addition to having to be purchased separately has a locking system with 2 really bad teeth that engage pressing. However, it is a lens that many satisfactions (as is generally the damage fixed lenses). |

Opinion: Having trawled for all the good reviews as possible, I also got to try the big brother (85 1.2) and I must say I was greatly satisfied, for ease of handling, the sharpness and speed of focus. The quality is very high and almost ridiculous considering the price I bought it. I feel really satisfied with the remains of this goal. |

On Aps-c 'sa bit longish, but for close-ups portraits, concerts and sporting events and' a must. And comuqnue on every occasion where you want to get a blurred creamy and warm colors. sent on July 17, 2013 Pros: Sharpness, distortion, speed maf, soft focus Cons: Purple fringing at TA Opinion: I love portraiture. Use this lens one day and the other as well. It has a sharpness to TA frightening. AC virtually absent, except in extreme situations where more than AC backlight you notice the purple fringing. This is the only flaw of '85, which among other things, is easily removed in PP. It is absolutely not comparable to 50cc, is a bright optical and should be used as tale.Ero skeptical, in fact, having bought the 50 1.8 which became usable, in my opinion, from f5.6 up on the fact that this lens could be sharper to TA. I immediately changed my mind after the first shots. Snap the subject very quickly and hardly misses the maf (safety time permitting). Who needs a portrait lens I can not recommend this lens. For street is a bit 'long but I still brought home good results. The colors are reproduced faithfully, I have not noticed dominant introduced by the lens. The bokeh is fantastic, buttery. Price and performance allow to give a verdict in this excellent lens. |

sent on May 11, 2013 Pros: Lightness, Sharpness, Brightness, Price, Performance Cons: A fully open produces a bit of purple fringing, but it is solvable with processing with Photoshop Opinion: I found that the EF 85 deserves to be among the lenses in Canon's higher-end despite being an f/1.8, I've also used for astrophotography all over the field surprised me for sharpness. In portraits with this lens, I got some good blurred that I can not even compare to my general purpose EX DG HSM Sigma 24-70 f/2.8, the AF works very well without ever wrong. Its sharpness ensures natural colors even in critical conditions of light, so it is for me one of the best lenses that Canon has pulled out ... I am very satisfied with this lens. |

sent on June 29, 2012 Pros: Sharpness, focus, fantastic value for money Cons: purple fringing in TA Opinion: I got this lens because I felt the need for a fixed lens for portraits. I've used both of 50D EOS 5D Mark II. I must say that in some cases of 50D is a bit 'too long and I had considerable difficulty in narrow spaces. On 5D is perfect, able to be much more versatile and usable. This lens strikes me the clarity and precision in focus, along with the beautiful out of focus which emphasizes the subject. I also made prints of portraits of children and the prints are so sharp that you have the impression that they are three-dimensional. A lens that advice, especially on a full frame, to keep it with them. |

Among my favorite lenses I have a very good quality / price ratio in relation to what it offers. You can get great portraits with beautiful blur. The AF is fast and accurate. The structure is strong and lightweight. In my opinion, in general, is very close to the L-series lenses The unattainable f / 1.2, but costs a third of that and certainly looks good. Opinion: It 'a lens from relatively low price (about 400 €) it deserves-for image quality-the "L" series. The sharpness is already very good at room temperature, the AF is fast and accurate color rendition very good, the beautiful blurred. The construction, although not that of a "L" series, is solid and very little plasticky. Great for portrait set on FF, it is practically 135 on APS-C: in this case the extension is preferable to a 50 1.4. Closed just one stop is crystal clear even at the edges. The only flaw, absolutely manageable in PP, is some chromatic aberration at room temperature visible in areas of high contrast. Then there is the vexed question of the hood and shameful that mom Canon is sold separately. In short, it is an incomparable 85 1.2, but it costs only a fraction, and offers a lot of quality. |
