sent on February 03, 2021 Pros: So small and light that it looks like a cap. Metal bayonet, sharpness to all diaphragms, cheap. Cons: Nothing for what it costs. Opinion: Great for landscapes, for my tastes a little less in portraiture where I find the 50STM better, but having said that, even in this field it defends itself well. It transforms the 6DII into a lightweight compact and returns always noteworthy results regarding the uniformity of the yield from corner to corner (which is not so obvious on a lens of this price range). Together with the 24STM I used on the 70D and the 50STM that I still use with satisfaction, for me it represents another small wonder by Canon, with a decidedly unbeatable quality /price ratio. At this price, parameters such as the speed of AF not lightning, but more than fast enough and the lack of stabilizer can not be considered defects, given the philosophy with which this beautiful lens was built. Vote 10. |
sent on December 06, 2020 Pros: very small, very light, economical Cons: af slow Opinion: a perfective lens. I didn't find any optical defects. maybe a vignette visible at 2.8, but it corrects itself in posts with a click. surely obvious flaws I did not find any. for what it costs and what it does is a MUST. the only flaw is the slightly slow af compared to modern lenses. on the 6d is not always precise. and because it's very sharp, you can immediately see it. among other things he also used salgado, you can see in the documentary the salt of the earth ... |
sent on December 06, 2020 Pros: Small, light, quality, price Cons: Blurry hard unpleasant Opinion: Fantastic lens for value for money. The angle of field is in my opinion perfect; the slowness of autofocus is not a problem. I bought the lampshon because I consider it indispensable for the reasons that everyone knows. These goals give everyone the ability to get quality files. I always set the sharpness to zero both in the car and in raw on pc. The sharpness of this lens even at full opening is excellent for me. It does not seem to me that the vignetting is excessive. I would add that I noticed the very ugly and nervous blurr. (only flaw for me) |
sent on April 18, 2020 Pros: Pocket, excellent optical quality, flare resistance Cons: I don't know... maybe a little bit of vignette and the AF a little slow Opinion: I find this lens really brilliant, it's really tiny to be a FF lens, mounted on 6D protruding a few mm from the handle. I also like the focal point, which, let's face it, is very close to a 35. I find that for the price it has is absolutely a best buy to turn your reflex into a compact FF of high quality, maybe to carry with you without commitment when leaving home. I pair it with both 6D and 7D mk II, but I think on FF it's just his death. I also used it for some set portraits and it behaves very well, it has a really very reduced distortion. As mentioned by others the AF is a bit slow, but nothing terrible and anyway I think that for the focus that it has is not a big problem, since with a 40mm you make mostly static shots. If you are looking for an optics for street or at least to travel around the city without obligation you have found it. In my opinion if you are going to use it only on aps-c it is better to orient yourself on the EF-S 24 pancake, which turns out to be a 40mm on FF. |
sent on October 09, 2019 Pros: Small, light, good quality. Cons: No one for the use I make of it. Opinion: Sometimes you don't want/possibility to carry the EF 35 L 1.4 II for practical reasons. This 40, made of the proper proportions, does its job well. When you want to stay light with a 5-series machine, while not turning the machine into a compact, everything is quietly in a simple purse. In addition, in a nice full backpack always finds its place and need there is. In conclusion, a good "cap" to put on the machine without regretting too much the goals that remain at home. |
sent on October 08, 2019 Pros: size, value for money, versatility Cons: I don't know Opinion: I always carry it with me, even for small events, vernissage etc, it is a discreet optics and mounted on 6D or RP reduces a lot of clutter. but the yield is still more than dignified (especially on RP). soft blurry, featherweight, in my opinion a funny lens but that can give satisfaction even in terms of quality |
sent on July 23, 2019 Pros: Build quality, sharpness and lightness. Cons: MAF not always fast Opinion: I was looking for an optics, to be alternated with the 24mm STM on the APS C Canon 200d, which was as light and sharp as the 24, but more suited to portraits and family scenes. I tried the 50 mm STM but I made it after a while in favor of the 40mm STM, with which I found myself better because it was sharper, versatile and with AF faster. With the 40, which on aps c has an actual focal point of 64mm, I made beautiful portraits with a pleasant and soft blur: it is also ideal for photographing groups of people (children, friends, family, etc.). It returns very beautiful and sharp photographs of landscapes as well. Great, like the 24 for videos. |
sent on January 23, 2019 Pros: Sharp, compact, light, economical, good angle of field shooting, AF accurate and fast Cons: For what it costs, I do not think you can ask for more, indeed one thing there, Lens hood totally unnecessary, both as protection of the lens and as a function of shielding the side light Opinion: Bought with a certain skepticism, as it did not convince me so much the focal, already from the first use impressed me positively. It is the ideal optics to make street or to replace the classic 50mm with the advantage of having a higher angle of shooting, but not excessively wide angle. Meeting point between 35mm and 50mm. It costs little in relation to the sharpness provided, weighs nothing, mounted in the car protrudes little more than the protrusion of the handle, making it very transportable. Constructively identical to the counterpart for APS-C EFS 24 f/2.8 STM that I already owned, is robust enough. If I go out light with APS-C I bring the 24 STM, 40 STM and 100mm macro and I'm full in a ridiculous handbag. Af very precise (someone complains be slow, but with 80d and 6d I do not think so). If proper lens hood has to be, I recommend buying a compatible Leica type to buy on the net (at least it has its own logic and being metal protects against bumps) as the original is totally unnecessary. Purchase recommended or in lieu of 50mm or to be accompanied by these as the angle of recovery is not the same. In lieu of the hood is advisable to use a good filter neutral protector, but not put bottle bottoms because you would deteriorate only the quality of your images, better nothing. |
sent on October 27, 2018 Pros: High value for money, portability. Cons: Slow MAF Opinion: I love pancakes. Lightness, compactness and value for money at the top. No optics are free from defects, an economical lens cannot fail to have. Really interesting focal length, excellent on FF for street (in which the compactness is a plus) but also good for portraits set. The full opening yield does not satisfy me, the autofocus is actually slow (for photos posing no problem) but overall, for an enthusiast like me, being able to buy Canon lenses at "human" prices and dignified quality is an opportunity not to be missed. |
sent on September 10, 2017 Pros: Light, small, cheap. Cons: Very, very sharp to TA, very slow AF compared to a USM. Opinion: MAF Slow but Precisissima. .. In the portraits set I see it well at f/3.2, there is enough sharpness while keeping a little blurry on FF.. Super good at 5.6, I think it's his best diaphragm. However, I have not found diffraction problems as some say already suffers from F/11: I pulled it at F/14 with acceptable results. The vignetting seemed a little too pronounced.. It was to be expected from a pancake. By pulling the sums, for the price I think it was worth taking it. It is small and comfortable although with the 6d you can not reach the size of a compact as dreamed, because of the body though. I recommend it for quality price. |

Opinion: I used it on APS-C Canon D70 and therefore 60mm focal length. The price in terms of quality is very low to ask him more at this price you can not. |
sent on May 17, 2017 Pros: Dimensions, optical quality Cons: Focal "strange" (for me), low brightness for a fixed optic Opinion: Purchased and resold within a week, I had taken it for a special occasion and I can say I have tried it thoroughly, to raise any doubt and see if it was my case. R The image quality is excellent already af / 2, 8 and autofocus, especially when compared to other Canon's low cost realizations (50 f / 1.8), is not lightning-fast but very accurate at a much more expensive and cost-effective level. The ridiculous footprint transforms a reflex entry level into a quasi-mirrorless, portable and lightweight. I sold it because I did not like the focal length, too long for my needs, and why I preferred a brighter, though more Expensive and heavy. Overall I found it more than honest but too "perfect" and without a great character. If it were a f / 1.8 it would be perfect. |
sent on March 08, 2017 Pros: Size, construction, sharpness, brightness' Cons: Slowness in MAF Opinion: I would say ke and 'a great glass in many ways: light, well built, bright, incidentally. Unsuitable for photos "dynamic", I found a certain "slowness" nell'agganciare the subject, compared to USM very hard, but to use "quiet" and especially considering the cost and 'excellent lente.rn |
sent on February 05, 2017 Pros: Size, weight, price, quality / price ratio Cons: MAF noisy and low light for a fixed (2.8) Opinion: The use of FF, good always drop in for reportage photography machine. For the price I find a good optical but nothing more, in any case is an optical to buy. Good sharpness and good colors. Although designed especially I found a high noise of the focus in AF to MF during the video. No one has found the noisy MAF? |
sent on January 20, 2017 Pros: Size, weight, price, quality Cons: none Opinion: After a few years of use I have to confirm the goodness of this perspective. Small, lightweight, and at least in my case supernitida. The field returned view of FF is special and or likes and dislikes. I have not encountered problems on the opposite color, more realistic and almost never tending to verde.rnCredo is one of the first targets to use the new engine stm. |
sent on May 22, 2016 Pros: Optical quality - compactness, lightness - economy - comfortable focal length Cons: vignetting and field curvature Opinion: High performance / price ratio. I found it clear even at f2.8. I use it with satisfaction on 5D MKii to carry it around as if it were a compact. AF precise. This price is definitely advisable if you are looking for compactness and good / excellent optical quality.rnCosta little and in its simplicity probably also gains reliability. rn |

Excellent focal and quality / price ratio Cons: Well little more light would be perfect, but difficult to be expected from a pancake Opinion: Excellent quality / price ratio, is the only one who can get in a bag designed for car and zoom, and cover the gap to the minimum focal length. Discreet, so great for the street with good optical quality, good also in the portraits, I use it on FF without major problems of vignetting. Beautiful rendering of colors Recommended |

Opinion: Small pocket and fixed lens made from excellent! I use it mostly at full aperture (f / 2.8) where it is already very clear and has beautiful colors and great dettaglio.rnE 'a drive for which the image quality is far superior to that of the zoom, even the much more expensive and famous; in particular, I felt a Tamron SP 24-70 2.8 VC and incisiveness to 40mm f / 2.8 was lower than that of this small gioiellino.rnSecondo me coupled to a Canon ef-s 24 f / 2.8 (on aps-c) It is ideal for travel and reportage generic interiors at a very low cost (less than half of the excellent Canon 17-55 f / 2.8) and the quality extremely buona.rnIo use it on Canon 60d for landscape (narrow), portrait occasional street, reportage interni.rnrnAnche after buying the excellent Canon ef-s 17-55 f / 2.8 pancake I have not sold this because I think it is always useful to keep it and insert it in your bag at each output (especially when the 17- 55 is too bulky). |
sent on December 01, 2015 Pros: Small and light! A crazy convenience. Focal versatile and a good bit 'all. Good build quality. Excellent sharpness up to f8. Excellent resistance to flare, has no chromatic aberration and does not distort. Excellent quality / price ratio. Cons: A hefty drop of the sharpness by stopping by f11 onwards (on full frame). STM autofocus motor, which used in the manual is always slower and less responsive and accurate than a mechanical, as well as running the risk of spoiling. Update: after a few months of use, compared to other more expensive glasses are not satisfied with the color rendering, basically cold. Even the complexion balancing the white tends markedly to yellow-green, which does not happen with other lenses. Opinion: I wrote all the pros / cons. I add that the feedback I've done on my copy which use of full frame SLR (Canon 6d). I recommend it especially to those in need of a small lens to keep always in your pocket or mounted to the task. It 'a great all-rounder lens street, which is fine by photography set or landscape (40mm has a visual cone much broader than fifty), but you can push it up to the half-length portrait. He also discrete macro skills. Update: as I wrote in counter I noticed a non-optimal behavior in color rendering, often difficult to balance, because changing the white embodied tend to yellow-green. The problem is felt less in the landscape photos, but in ambientati portraits or street forcing you to a lot 'of post production on color. |
sent on October 25, 2015 Pros: Excellent value for money, 2.8 brightness, focus fast enough. Ring fluid, lightweight, compact and pocketable. Blurred delicate and does not alter colors. Cons: The focus is sometimes not correct. Some vignetting. Opinion: It's my first drive, I found myself very well on aps-c, I do not sell it mai.Sicuramente is great to start to take hand with landlines. sent on October 16, 2015 Pros: Extreme lightness, relatively low cost, optical quality Cons: Focal length particular, f / 2.8 Opinion: I start with what I once told a friend just before the scattassi a photo: "Look, you did not put the lens to reflex". Its main advantage is undoubtedly the weight and bulk: photographer recently and I love walking in the mountains, this lens can hold the camera always in hand without feeling any effort. This is accompanied by a construction and a precise optical quality which I find very good in terms of sharpness and chromatic aberration all in all contained and eliminated in post. Also of note is a good color rendering and fuzzy interesting, making it a lens with its own character deciso.rnCome against which there is a fixed aperture would expect a bit 'wider, but is already at 2.8 He can safely take low light while maintaining excellent sharpness in the center and however good the sides (at least on aps-c, use a 600D) .rnUltima consideration the focus is "odd", but proves to be a great all-rounder herendo must not photographing architecture or, in general, very large entities, neighbors, and with no possibility to move. Opinion: I state that I speak from amateur to the first weapons, but what to say .. I bought this pancake finding a ridiculous price on eBay (just over 100 €) and, obviously, I'm delighted! Combined with my EOS 100D offers a high quality image with very minimal size and weight. Ideal as a "training" to learn how to compose well and use their creativity, since it is a fixed lens. sent on May 14, 2015 Pros: Small, lightweight, excellent construction, focus ring extremely fluid, crystal clear, beautiful colors, very good quality of the bokeh Cons: 2.8, vignetting vistosissima on APS-C at maximum aperture (f4 is already almost completely disappeared), a trickle of AC magenta Opinion: Lens OUTSTANDING !! quality stands out, great! already perfectly clear to the center to 2.8 (the edge is not too sharp but defends himself very well) if you close one or two stop becomes a blade! the problem is the usability, I mean, on APS-C becomes a 63mm, focal really unhelpful and because of that, in spite of himself, this lens is often in the bag ... unfortunately the opening "only" 2.8 I often pushing to replace the 24-105 f4 so I decided to change it for the next 50mm 1.8 STM. Unfortunately I came to the conclusion that for a fixed (not as may be the 200mm tele) 2.8 is too little, it takes at least a 2.0, or rather more open yet! I'm really sorry because, I repeat, this 40mm lens is a very high quality ... |
sent on April 29, 2015 Pros: pocket Cons: f2.8 Opinion: Very, very best and worst of the 50 1.8 50 1.4 I would spend those immediately 100eu more to take this last rather than do that with the 40ino for a period and then want more and take the 50 mentioned. I would recommend it to those who are not so many portraits and has no place in the bag for bulky & heavy lenses because let's face it, if you take the 50 portraits 1.4 and I will keep on for most of the photographs. |

Excellent sharpness already 2.8. It may be a good alternative for those who are undecided between 50 / 1.8II and 50 / 1.4. Constructively best 50 / 1.8II optically but slightly lower than the 50 / 1.4, but nothing outrageous. I recommend it to anyone who wanted to associate it with a wide-angle (for example, I take her along to 10-22) to have good coverage with a very short focal footprint |

sent on December 15, 2014 Pros: Great to TA, great value - price, excellent construction. Cons: Motor STM is not perfect Opinion: I made a small and great Christmas gift for the purchase price, I think, there is no better. Excellent construction, size, then let you have it in your pocket. Great af 2.8, where also gives one blurred pleasant. The only drawback is the engine STM, I was impressed by the system to focus on the canon 10-18 STM, while here has a few drawbacks as: speed nell'agganciare the subject (still good) and "hiss" heard in the recordings. To conclude, I would just advise the objective in question, it deserves a great vote ....:-) |

Much better than the 50 1.8 that replaced it in my backpack, and as a building and as a definition. Surely those who are undecided between the two lenses, I would recommend the pancakes. For now, the use of APSC, which is perhaps not the ideal focal definitely on FF would be more appropriate, at least for my taste. |

Cons: No one Opinion: I bought this lens a few days after his uscita.rnA spite of the economic impact really ridiculous was one of the optics, perhaps most debated since the time of its release, especially in direct relation with the immediate "cousins" 50/35 and 1.8 / 2 (old model). I must say that I personally have often joined by comparison a third "uncomfortable" as the 50 / 1.4 (I own for years) and as far as I'm concerned this Pancake winner out of all the others, such as optical performance, with the same opening. rnDifficile expect better, especially in relation to the price, but I would say that looks absolutely even compared to some brother of greater caliber. Coupled to a body of quality, but rather compact, as the 6D can together constitute a very discreet and sometimes deadly in situations of street even at night; a sort of compattona quality eccelsa.rnL'AF is not a USM, but it is much more powerful and quieter than older AF economic engines, which are equipped with the direct concorrenti "cousins" and remember that even the autofocus of the same 50 / 1.4 (not a USM, but a micro USM) is not that it is a large bolt of guerra.rnAnche the focal length of 40mm is much closer to my concept of " normal "compared to the 50mm that I always take away something, which fits right in with my tastes. rnChe say ... 150 € and 130 grams. Usable in various fields, from portraits to reportage, I use it on APS and I find it a focal comfortable with its 40mm, is the classical optics that should not miss in the kit of an amateur. sent on June 20, 2014 Pros: lightweight, comfortable, bright, good image quality, quiet Cons: fidelity color reproduction decent but not great, not stabilized Opinion: I own recently but I have no doubt. Definitely better than the 50mm 1.8. The autofocus is quiet and idles trying to engage the subject in precise maggioparte situations, except where it is too dark, (in that case just use it manually in difficult situations). It lends itself very well for portraits having a low aperture so the more background blur. Good minimum distance of focus to be able to bring a little 'more'. Convenient especially outdoors, if we photographed a few moving subject and want to use a particularly short to freeze the action (because it is not stabilized it is important to be able to use very quickly at times to try to get people motivated less possible). With the 18-55 or iris lenses standard in some situations even if there is enough light, we realize that working at maximum times as 1/4000 or higher so the image is still a bit 'dark so sometimes touches raise the ISO and therefore you create a nice little noise on the photo. (Unless you have a camera on the endupper most 'professional where you can work even at very high ISO noise with very low or almost absent). 40, however, since only works well in situations that I mentioned, then maybe you need to do if you picture a bit 'more' professional and accurate you can match a flash or any accessory to better direct the light as reflective panels or other accessories. For anyone who owns it is definitely an excellent purchase as fixed and in my opinion will not stop even after years of stewing, due to its general practicality and versatility. |

For what it costs me far has paid off, sharpening a feather lightness ok, a little cartoon but who cares! ! I had a 50 f 1.8 but after taking this I gave it away, because it is far better especially in sharpness! In my opinion should not be missing in the kit. Hello |
sent on May 04, 2014 Pros: Lightness, quality and sharpness. Cons: Well, what to say ... the slight vignetting at room temperature, but it is negligible. AF is not just fast but usable without any problems whatsoever. The rest is "only" f2.8, but ... it's a defect? No, it's just a characteristic of the lens that everyone knows before purchasing. Opinion: Light, crisp, comfortable. Focal length that is suitable for various kinds and can be used on several occasions. I prefer the 50 1.8 that I own because it is a bit 'more wide and because it is better in terms of construction (and af, probably). For the rest it's all been said about this lens, so I will not go oltre.rn |

user38285 ![]() ![]() | sent on February 02, 2014 Pros: Ease of use, good quality optics and construction, although only 2.8 has a nice focus, maf precise, price / performance, minimum distance of maf Cons: MAF not fast but better than the 50 1.8. Opinion: I have given him for Christmas and I must say that I am very satisfied. I use it on an old 350d and performs well, the focus is mostly accurate considering the limitations of the machine maf. It brought back the desire to carry around the camera at every opportunity instead of Sunday compact camera. It seems to have nothing installed, but proves up to the task. Ultimately a great all-rounder if you use it within its limits. |
sent on January 19, 2014 Pros: Dimensions and weight first. Extreme sharpness. Minimum focus distance reduced. Color consistency. Cons: Due to the size, inconvenient for manual focus. Vignette evident. Opinion: Ultimately I think the slow walking final. Allows to grasp details also of reduced size and photograph without problems thanks to the distance of focus reduced. It's great for landscapes and thanks to its light weight allows you to use exposure times normally probitivi lenses with the same focal range but much more cumbersome. But I do not understand why they are around a lot of pictures of pictures taken with this lens, it seems to me very far from the ideal lens in that field. |
sent on November 20, 2013 Pros: Price, compact, versatile focal length, quality / price ratio excellent. Cons: A bit 'of chromatic aberration in addition to being easily corrected him forgives readily saw the price! Opinion: It 'almost become my "handyman" preferred on FF. "The death of his" I think it's the street: the compactness makes it very discreet, the focal length is quite suitable and versatile, the AF very good, and the opening interesting. Price for size and weight is indicutibilmente a wildcard to take with if, at least on FF, which turns into a kind of compattona. In this sense has changed upon 50 1.8. The image quality is very good already wide open, and the very low price makes you forget the rest (and maybe a little chromatic aberration 'vignetting, both easily corrected in post) |

sent on October 31, 2013 Pros: Light and economical but very well built, made record-breaking AF silent and reliable Cons: F2.8 instead of F2.0 Opinion: Little to say, cheaply made so much! Optically correct in every point of view. But I spent a few euro more to have it at least f2 even at the cost lose some mm. With a 40f2 I replaced both the 50 and the 35! rnDa emphasize that with a 25mm tube you get a macro of all respect with the yield which remains at the highest levels and a RR of about 0.9 x.rnrnSalut |
sent on August 27, 2013 Pros: Minute, precise and quiet, discreet, inimitable Cons: I do not find against Opinion: Is the lens that everyone should have in their kit, quiet, precise, discrete, fixed, bright, suitable for both street and for urban portraits. I meditated for a long time the purchase of a compact to replace the camera too heavy and cumbersome in many trips ... in the end I did better than that, I bought the 40 f2.8 mounted on my Canon 60Da that transforms the de facto a bridge compact absolute quality. Phenomenal. |
sent on July 28, 2013 Pros: Compactness, optical quality, low noise Cons: Nothing Opinion: A great lens for photographic output read. Accurate and fast AF, good focus, combined with FF and high iso allows interesting night shots. I think I have good results with the macro, you can use it with great fluency by hand. rnNon never sell it. sent on May 03, 2013 Pros: Optical quality, construction, image quality, quality / price ratio, size, ability to transform their expensive SLR in a more anonymous bridge to an untrained eye without compromising too much on the image quality Cons: Probably one stop brighter could come in handy, I personally would be willing also to pay a little more for an f / 2. But for € 147 paid by Canon Cashback Promotion can not say anything against the. Opinion: There is little to add on this fantastic lens for this price it is a crime not to own it in the kit. It 'fast nell'autofocus, I find it a step much higher than the 50cc only a modest cost more, at f/2.8 is very sharp for a lens of this cost when pushed to the limit. Are strasoddisfatto purchase that would do 100 times. Really a successful goal. |
sent on January 04, 2013 Pros: Compact, Excellent materials, Boken, image quality. Cons: At a price of 155 Euros NO. Opinion: It 'a very good lens, almost all do, but according to me the best on portraits. It 's very comfortable to carry around the small size, the best quality of immaggine you around F4, 2.8 loses slightly, but I would say that you hardly notice it. I found it on the web at € 155 and straconsiglio at all, a few euro more than the 50mm 1.8 is worth them both as building materials and as a photographic quality. Then an STM and if applied to the 650D (or others in Hybrid Sensor) allows the continuous focus on moving subjects in making the video. |
sent on December 18, 2012 Pros: Light and economical. Perfect for street photography Cons: Relatively dark to be a 2.8. High-contrast colors. Opinion: Definitely value for money perspective from winning. About 200 € (or even less) do not find anything similar on the market. Very light despite the excellent workmanship, great for long walks in the city, especially when it is best not to attract attention. The autofocus while acceptable is not a thunderbolt of war, making it a perspective not properly indicated for reportage or photojournalism (at least in situations "hot" when you have to play on the "clicks-and-run"). During the road test the optics seemed very dark, and I was not fully convinced the contrast. The sharpness I was relatively disappointed, while coming in at more than acceptable levels, from a perspective made up of only 3 lenses, I would expect to meglio.rnNel Overall a convenient lens for those who do not want to risk the finest lenses in particular contexts. I bought it more out of curiosity than anything else, and frankly I'm not sure to keep it. |
sent on December 14, 2012 Pros: Ultra compact, ultra lightweight, focus fast enough and not noisy, good price and good construction. Cons: I would have preferred it to be a little more light on FF 40mm are too many to photograph architecture and little to do portraits, so it is not really the best. Opinion: I bought this lens for a short time and for what it costs I can say it was a good choice. Surely one of its peculiarities is the fact of being ultra compact and lightweight, and very useful if you want to go around or traveling light. Unfortunately, at least for my way of shooting, its 40mm on FF I have not found so useful, especially because I do mainly portraits or architecture, so it is not ideal, we say it is great for street, but maybe on APS-C is even better, I have not got to try. In conclusion, I can tell you that is a good point of view, but personally I preferred my Canon 50mm 1.4, especially with regard to the focus faster, the brightness and focus. |
sent on December 10, 2012 Pros: Small, precise, fast focusing stratospheric price quality ratio ... Cons: No Opinion: I bought this little gem on amazon in a day of crazy price € 160. Wonderful! I'm so happy ... since it is not got the 'I have removed from my 7d. Focus until now perfect sharpness and extremely quiet ... ok .... to 2.8 turns out to be clear .... I'm not a very expert but compared to my 50 1.8 is another planet. Bought for game now become 'the objective preferito. Consigliatissimo |
sent on November 20, 2012 Pros: Weight, size, good construction, nice bokeh, sharpness even at full aperture. Cons: At this price just can not find them! Opinion: Bought on a whim because I own the Canon 50 F1.4 and 50 F1.2, but very satisfied with it. My 5DIII becomes a "compattona" but the quality of the files is very respectable. Autofocus is not a rocket, but we are talking about a speed accettabilissima. Quiet, the bottom has been designed with an eye on the video. The TA is correct vignetting on my camera "on camera", but also by software (DPP) disappears with a click (I often like). Does not seem to require any lens hood cap lens cover and finally, being little one especially for my hands, it is awkward to remove (preferably new). I updated the firmware of the lens but I have to say that never before I had the problems that the same should have corrected. A purchase highly recommended, especially in relation to its cost! |
sent on November 14, 2012 Pros: Economic: small, compact, pocket-sized, solid construction, better, and much, compared to 35/2 and 50/1.8; sheltered front lens without hood; already very sharp from f / 4, perfect for street and reportage, but also for some landscape "on the fly." We also put in pro vignetting at f/2.8, because it gives him a certain personality that I like very much. Beautiful bokeh, it becomes easy to play with. Cons: Autofocus is not as immediate as an ultrasound, but still fast enough. Opinion: I bought a lens pocket that I took away space and not weighed in the bag while traveling in Burma ... from his pocket went the first day, to the union of the 5d and from there you are no longer moved. Certainly my best purchase in the past year (*), a lens that surprised me and gave me a lot of soddisfazioni.rnrn (* with that phrase mean "the best surprise" deriving from an economic purpose .. . started as a whim from compulsive shopping, the pancake has become a must-have in a very short time) |
sent on October 17, 2012 Pros: Compactness, light weight, optical quality, quality bokeh quality / price ratio Cons: Honestly, I can not find Opinion: I really like this lens. sent on September 24, 2012 Pros: Image quality, construction, value, size, focal handyman. Cons: Vignetting at 2.8. Opinion: Canon, this lens has given us a little gem with a really interesting with 200 euro you take home a fixed-rounder quality. Just installed, you get the impression that he still has and body only: the footprint is minimal (the lens can lead easily into a pocket), the weight also. However, good construction, not plasticky (nothing to do with the fifty-per-understood). Amazing image quality: even at room temperature, the lens is extremely sharp and set slightly at the edges. The distortion is practically irrelevant, absent chromatic aberrations. The colors are typically Canon. The AF is not as fast as USM but is still quite fast and above all accurate. The focus, rather hard, it is quite pleasant. The focal length allows you to do a little 'everything from portrait to landscape. The cons: I'm tempted to say no, since the value for money. Perhaps the vignetting in this TA: I say maybe because there is good in portraits and still, in a moment, when it is not acceptable can be corrected easily in PP. In conclusion, a lens to buy for quality, versatility and price. |
sent on August 07, 2012 Pros: Compactness, optical quality, light weight, focal length lies between a moderate wide-angle and normal. Very sharp already wide open. Boken pleasant. Quick and silent in focus. Cons: It could be a little brighter. Opinion: Optics that is inserted between two fixed lenses Canon EF 28/2, 8 and 50/1, 8. Its focal moderately normal-granda does appreciate in my view as goal-rounder for normal use or for street photography but also for photography in natural environment. Not to be underestimated in my opinion the city for use in optics, at least on mine, low distortion perspective. A lens that saw the price and what it offers should become part of the outfit of every user, preferably FF to take advantage of native 40 mm but also for users APS-C that little can have an optical near-normal. |
sent on July 31, 2012 Pros: Compact, Optical Quality and mechanical excellent ratio q / p Cons: For 200 Euro, I do not see them. Opinion: I took it because I did not have the 50mm and I was intrigued by the idea of ??pancakes on a 5D MarkI. The effect is, at first, straniamte, it seems to only run with the camera body! But as soon as the measures taken, the 40mm lens proves to be a truly versatile. Perfect for street and portraits settled, does not mind the picture of the landscape. Really very clear and clean, good homogeneity between the center and the edges. Great for those who do video (unfortunately not me ...) is the stepping motor (STM) for AF, but only for those who have a car of new generation as the 650D. Finally, great value for money, is around 200 Euro. |
