sent on 10 Maggio 2023 Pros: Build quality and gaskets, optical quality and flare, concave front lens. Cons: Weight, slight chromatic aberration only in particular situations, abnormal focus ring compared to the fixed parts of the barrel. Opinion: Optics well built and destined to last over time, purchased used had no trace of dust on the inner lenses as proof of good seal with respect to atmospheric agents. Oversized focus ring compared to the fixed parts of the barrel: we don't have sailor's hands to focus and pianist's hands to arm/disarm the optics... Problem solved in part with high viscosity spray grease in the interstices of the ring nut. Fixed definitively by blocking it with precision to infinity with black adhesive tape ... Adhesive tape that I usually apply even in the most exposed parts as protection, in this case in the front edge. Compared to the sigma art that I had previously, the dimensions are smaller and partly compensate for the greater weight (the feeling is a better grip), also the concave front lens is more protected from close encounters, so much so that it could be done without the hood saving on weight and bulk ... I recommend doing tests to evaluate whether to omit it in certain lighting situations or to replace it with a 67mm hood ring, the one supplied for me is too bulky. Optically, it has less flare than sigma, that's the only reason I made the replacement. For the rest, the "weak" sides must go and look for them: slight chromatic aberration on large openings, but only in the out of focus and especially on apsc. In fullframe slight smudges in the resolution visible in a small area in the extremes of the angles zooming at 10x, I always refer to the sigma art on which these defects seemed less evident to me. Everything ok instead going down (slightly) along the side edges, even with f1.4 opening. I still have to do field tests, but overall and considering the type of photography I do I am already satisfied with the exchange.
sent on 14 Gennaio 2022 Pros: Wonderfully real colors, construction, solidity Cons: To be used on still subjects and carefully when using it at f 1.4 Opinion: I have had this wonderful lens for a few days and I was excited by opening the box and seeing a card signed by the worker who assembled it. I took a few shots and a lot of out of focus, on my 5d Mark IV. The shots in focus are of extraordinary power, absolutely unattainable with other lenses. The build quality is great. Well that there is no autofocus and stabilization, so every shot requires mastery if not the out of focus does not forgive. I recommend using it in the studio for set portraits, it will give you and give the photographed subjects wonderful emotions. The attachment with the electric blue gasket is perfectly tropicalized, the metal and felt hood a wonder. I recommend him to all portraitists, along with his brother 85mm.
sent on 15 Febbraio 2019 Pros: Optically egregious, construction from 10 \ \ 10, metal lens hood with felt interior quality Cons: Exaggeratedly big, lack of AF, ring of ZF version small and uncomfortable to use Opinion: Who had a milvus in his hand knows: the building is magnificent. It is an incredible piece of engineering, made of brushed metal, completely tropicalized, with very clear and difficult to wear writing. Unfortunately a lens is not just construction, and this Zeiss does not excite. Although compared to the previous version is noticeably sharper and better supports chromatic aberrations, but loses that microcontrasto\\3d that characterized the ancestor. The number of lenses is in fact doubled, and if optically the difference is marked, it is also artistically, where in my opinion loses a lot, becoming one of the many "Sigma Art" in circulation. I have to say that there are no important differences between the two: the Sigma has the autofocus but a ridiculous construction, this has a magnificent construction but is completely MF. We add to this "normality of yield" almost 1kg of weight, and here is served a lens in my opinion senseless. I had it and resolute record time: He couldn't give me anything. I preferred by far a Voigtlander 40 mm f 1.2, with its contained dimensions, and its yield decidedly characteristic albeit devoid of intrusive aberrations. In summary it is definitely a lens from the construction egregia, but it can not excite and justify a disbursement of more than €1200. By now in 2019 are being born as mushrooms Oriental companies that produce manual lenses with incredible constructions at honest prices (7artisans \ \ Mitakon For example), and Zeiss may not have to list a 50 mm f1.4 manual, which has as sole "advantage" compared to other Offers, the name Zeiss and the pain in the arms to transport it. A fully manual lens in the 2019 must justify the difficulties you encounter by using it, this Zeiss does not do it.
sent on 03 Gennaio 2019 Pros: Excellent image quality, impeccable mechanical realization, aesthetic Cons: Slight bearing distortion, also stated in the Zeiss technical documentation Opinion: After having used for several years the 50 mm Zeiss ZF. 2 (Classic series), with which I have overall found well, I decided to buy this milvus and I must acknowledge that there is absolutely no comparison with the equal focal ZF. 2. The optical scheme has been completely redesigned taking into account what has already been done for the Otus series and the results have been immediately visible since the first shots: a sharpness and uniformity of yield on the whole frame absolutely fantastic. The fluidity and precision of the focus ring make each shot a unique experience. Very nice and effective the metal hood supplied. The refined mechanical accomplishment and the greatest number of lenses have resulted in a significant increase in weight, which is appreciably higher than most of the 50 mm available on the market, but I personally think it is tolerable, as the whole It is compact enough and does not cause imbalance when engaged on the machine body. It's a relatively expensive lens, but considering both optical and mechanical quality, I think the performance price ratio is certainly good. Highly recommended to those who appreciate this focal and that for the type of images they realize can do without autofocus.
sent on 15 Febbraio 2018 Pros: Everything, absolutely, and at an unreachable level Cons: Lens cap caps a little underlie Opinion: It's definitely one of the most amazing lenses I've ever had in my hands, the best 50 ever. I went through the noct, until a month ago I had the excellent Art, but in front of this milvus I was forced to review all my parameters! Absolutely amazing sharpness all over the frame, fantastic bokeh, True waterproofing, noble materials (only the weight says a lot...), beautiful Otus style design, precision mechanics of other times. And besides it costs even little, go see the price of the Plasticone 58 Nikon, then compare them in the field and we laugh. This is the 50 mm that fans of the brand were clamors for! And not by chance on the reviews is compared only to 55 Otus, which as surrender is very close. The difference with the old fifty ZF. 2 is abysmal, not by chance the new has been completely redesigned. The old 50 mm ZF. 2 was a Planar while this is design Distagon just like the Otus, and I guarantee you see it! What about, 10 praise Laude, inevitable in a serious outfit!
sent on 14 Febbraio 2018 Pros: sharpness, color return, blurred, focus ring and... why not, handsome! ;-) Cons: Knowing what you buy, nothing. Opinion: Bought for the urge to try a Zeiss and have a 50 1.4 to use with the 5DSR. It may seem a madness seen the 50 mpx of the machine, its problem of always moving in ambush and manual focus. I use it almost always freehand and I do not deny that the difficulty of the focus exists and do not always help the green dot and the beep. In live View everything resolves, but hardly (practically never) photographer with the tripod and also accustomed to live view of the 2 5d4 I find it really inconvenient not to have the touch on the 5DSR. The yield of the milvus is exceptional and in some cases it is like having almost a zoom because cropping you still has a very good image. The weight for now does not bother and grip and use the focus ring... well, it's to try. It is the only horn made to Canon mom from 1968... ;-))
sent on 19 Gennaio 2018 Pros: contrast, sharpness, definition, color rendering, focusing ring. Cons: nobody Opinion: much higher quality, Yes the focus is manual but with the focus of the Nikon focus is hardly wrong. the lens weighs but you immediately notice the quality of the materials. Sharp and contrasted images, really fantastic. Zeiss contrast associated with a high-definition lens. Lens to be owned for both amateurs and professionals.
sent on 07 Settembre 2017 Pros: General quality, optical quality, focus ring, lens hood and sharpness. Cons: Nobody. Opinion: Exquisite lens, made to last a lifetime.rnConstructive and top quality optics, weight and cost are not a problem because it's a fucking class made to endure a life in a professional or amateur kit.rn Manual focus generates addiction and in my opinion, it tastes a photograph of other times and is well reasoned. rnPrecision and incisive as a knife, the images that it does not need to retouch unless a hint, full and sharp colors and great detachment of the subject from the background. presence of rubber gaskets! rnGrande series Milvus.
sent on 30 Dicembre 2016 Pros: 360 ° Quality: optics, construction, aesthetics, SOUL Cons: Too bad it's not AF Opinion: I share many of the observations made by Giallo63: the manual focus with today's slides is a business, but I had a hard time to focus manually with the old 5D first series, and I changed the slide on my 6D specifically for the use of this light! RNLA quality is palpable, the weight, the shape and the tactile feeling is surreal! rnPenso that clutter is not a counter (similar objectives are bulkier or similar, smaller targets are not comparable to this), with the EG-S can focuse at any point without recompose (light conditions), it is a modern lens with comparable sharpness almost all'arcinoto Sigma Art but with the yield Zeiss, the Zeiss soul, the Zeiss feeling, the Zeiss reliability! rnSe also had AF probably always recommend to the detriment of the Sigma, but it is not and not everyone want to take pictures in MF.rnIl price is proportionallyand quality, but you perceive higher since competition provides optically valid goals at lower prices, but the construction and pleasure to have it in your fingers is not comparable! RNE 'just to try, I mounted the frosted glass on the 6D, additional why hardly I unmount this objective it;)
sent on 22 Novembre 2016 Pros: optical quality, color rendering, mechanical construction Cons: price, size, weight, absence of AF Opinion: Those who decide to purchase this lens must come to terms with the fact that the manual focusing, in itself not problematic, it is difficult with the slides of modern autofocus SLR. If there is the possibility of buying a frosted glass and change the original one, it pays to do so. Otherwise you have to focuse very slowly and carefully, relying on af sensors and ignition of the famous "green dot". Personally, the Canon EOS 5Ds, that does not forgive the slightest mistake and unfortunately does not allow interchangeability of the slide, I caught up with a (nice) po 'training, testing, verification, different settings, a good average of shots with fire perfetto.rnIn particularly point out to Canon users to privilege the central point, usually very reliable, and give up the outlying points: better focus when focus on the central and reassemble; at least in this sense, my experience finora.rnEscludere moving subjects and dynamic images in general (except rely IPerfocale). But a shot in focus with this lens reveals the extremely high quality and does justice to the efforts (including economic) that the Milvus requires: although they have a good optical kit Canon L series, this Zeiss is a genuine star who, when conditions and the recovery time will allow me, is preferable to any other despite great achievement of Canon: excellent sharpness, yield uniformity of the entire screen, resistance to flare, flawless construction, weather sealing, high contrast even at the widest apertures bokeh unstructured and gradual, three-dimensionality, plasticity, colors faithful and yield pastel colors; is a phenomenal lens that does justice to 50mpxl sensor. It 's rare to have a lens that can be used equally and successfully in landscape shots and architecture rather than portrait in available light. rnUn masterpiece, however, requires the necessary attention and experience to be used to meglio.rnrn
sent on 04 Ottobre 2016 Pros: Sharpness, chromatic rendering, contrast, constructive quality. Cons: Weight Opinion: A superlative goal that forces files that do not need almost postproduction. The color rendering and sharpness are very high (practically like an Otus), the unbeatable construction quality compared to the case for which it's compatible. It's very heavy and expensive. Thinking to sell it is crazy.rn Who buys it will become totally dependent.rnOpen impatient in the focus, which with the mounted screens at present is not always easy (however the green ball helps a lot) .rnEasy, as in all Serious and non-plasticious lenses, the presence on the classic depth-of-field barrel, referring to the infinite positioning to work in the hyperfocal landscape and to have a focus without even framing.
sent on 31 Gennaio 2016 Pros: sharpness, aberration correction, contrast, light transmission Cons: weight, size, price Opinion: In the past I had the Planar 50mm 1.4 that has been replaced by this Milvus that now uses the optical design of the Distagon, as the well-known Otus. The weight and dimensions are remarkable, but it is the logical consequence of a construction where metal and glass abound and I have decided to put up, along with the high price (1200 euro with Fowa guarantee), in the name of the search for a higher optical quality that, in fact, was absolutely fantastic and far superior to its predecessor, in all openings. The sharpness, the Nikon Df and even more with the Nikon 810 (are my machines) it is superb even at the widest apertures, with results of pure excellence to intermediate diaphragms, when the yield on the edges really leaves you flabbergasted. But not only the sharpness is excellent, because the transparency and brightness of the scene, as well as the native color rendering, which in my view are a little more that the optical Zeiss boast than the Nikon, here are stillmost exalted. Excellent resistance to reflections and the backlight. Focus ring very soft focus, dust protection, more modern aesthetic, but without sacrificing the aperture ring, metal hood, are other elements that I consider extremely valuable. Ultimately a superlative goal, recommended for those who do not need the fastest auto focus and not lose heart in front of the higher weights consueto.rn
