At the beginning I felt like I was reliving the transition in Hasselblad from normal optics to 180 CF (or 120 CF) which showed an extra grit. Last I use it with the Sony A7R4 61 megapixels, exceptional results, it manages to maintain the same level of quality. When I bought this lens there were not many solutions, today the alternative could be the Sony 135/1.8, I tried to make comparison shots with both obtaining exceptional results. Already from the first test shots I could see an excellent optical yield and now, after a few months, and after using it in the most disparate shooting situations, I can only confirm the high quality of the images that this lens is in can provide. The yield is extremely uniform across the frame and there is no trace of aberrations of any kind. The perfect fluidity and the wide angle of rotation of the focus ring allow an extremely accurate focheggiatura. The electronic rangefinder of my Nikon Df (the "Green Dot" in the viewfinder) provides a sufficiently precise indication for most circumstances; In the most critical cases I use Live View. The lens comes with a beautiful metal lens hood coated internally with Velveteen and equipped with a bayonet mount, which effectively performs its task. It is a lens that I would like to recommend to all those who are looking for a bright medium-tele and with an excellent image quality, and that do not let themselves be intimidated by manual focus.

Opinion: I have owned a variety of optics for portrait of various brands (Leica, Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad, Contax) for both 35mm and medium format. Having said that, I can say (of course very personal opinion) that the Zeiss Apo Sonnar 135 is the most beautiful portrait lens I've ever used (along with the 110 F2 for Hasselblad Planar). I speak not only of sharpness (still amazing) but for a number of features that make it unique in several ways: first, the perfect optical correction. I tried to take in the most adverse lighting codizioni, with strong contrasts, but I have to say that this view is always performed beautifully. Chromatic aberration is absent, even when shooting at full aperture. The color rendering is typically Zeiss (for some a bit cold but I prefer it that way). The sharpness is absolutely incredible both the center and the edges and diaphragm brings no improvement, but an increase in PDF. Having already owned the Zeiss Makro Planar ZE feared that the focus ridifference represents difficult and inaccurate (which I had experienced with this lens). I must however say that, apart from having a ring of focus extremely fluid and precise confirmation of focus is always to be false (on the body 5D Mark II) and I have not encountered any problems front or back focus. The focus is very progressive and very enjoyable. The only drawback is the considerable weight but it is also the logical consequence of a solid and flawless mechanical construction. Although compared to the great Canon 135 F2L, the Zeiss is superior in all respects. A perspective that I would warmly recommend to lovers of the portrait.
