sent on 24 Febbraio 2026 Pros: Price, excellent image rendering, apertures. Cons: Lens hood, backlit focus, aperture ring. Opinion: On Sunday I finally put the 16mm 1.8 to the test after a long time on my Nikon Z5II using it for portraits in a villa. The rendering of the photos is very good, nice sharp, I am satisfied. I'm not one to look too much at vignetting and hair preciousness. The focus suffered a bit in backlight, with the subject in the dark and a bright background, which the Nikon Z35mm 1.4 did not suffer (same situation, I only changed lenses). The lens hood has a magnetic attachment, it does not have a joint, it comes off more easily than others. The aperture ring put there is aesthetically vintage, but by making a lot of lens changes quickly, you end up turning it every time you mount it. For me it is uncomfortable. All in all I'm very satisfied, also considering that I bought it with black friday at 20% off.
sent on 22 Dicembre 2025 Pros: general construction, uniqueness of the blur on this kind of lens, price all in all acceptable Cons: cheap lens hood, vignetting all in all acceptable Opinion: taken a few days ago, already put to the test in a couple of outings, I was able to appreciate several merits and find some flaws. It is my first "bright" wide angle, so far I had been able to appreciate at most 2.8, so limited blurred and somewhat "flat" results, with this lens you can instead detach a little, especially useful for creative portraits. The build quality is very appreciable, the aperture ring is very useful and, I wouldn't have said it, the small screen is also very useful both for the focusing distance and for the aperture used (if you shoot in the dark). The lens hood is definitely out of tune, not up to a metal and glass lens. As a result, very usable at full aperture, excellent up to f8, then I feel a slight drop at smaller apertures, I will study it better. For now I would say that it is not the right lens for long exposures at f16. It has a bit of vignetting, but nothing dramatic, and it is resolved with a click in Lightroom, as well as distortion. What can I say, very versatile lens, quite light and compact despite the brightness, the screen and the build quality, I'm happy to have bought it.
sent on 05 Maggio 2025 Pros: A versatile wide-angle lens for landscape and night photos. Cons: For now, no one Opinion: I was looking for a bright wide angle to use on my Nikon ZF for landscapes and night photos, I already have the Nikon 14-30 but being an F4 in certain circumstances limited me, I came across this viltrox seeing videos on you tube of an Australian photographer who uses this lens to photograph the Milky Way, and I was impressed, so much so that it has become one of the most used targets. I have tried it in landscape photos with long exposures, excellent focus, sharpness throughout the frame, and its dynamic range, soon I will try it for night photos and the Milky Way, but I am sure that it will not disappoint me.
sent on 25 Febbraio 2025 Pros: Super sharp! Excellent construction with adequate weights and measurements. The rings of both the focus and the aperture rings are nice "pasty". As an eyelash, the illuminated display that gives indications of the diaphragm and the point of focus Cons: The focus is not very fast, but considering that it is a lens especially for landscape photographers, it is not a primary feature Opinion: I confirm the very complete review of AlessioFunghi_Ph. I use it on a Sony a7rV, Top sharpness, Coma practically absent, Flare manageable with a minimum of attention, star lights from 5.6 upwards but without arrogance, overall weights and construction on a par with the best lenses, what can I say, I recommend to all those looking for a 16 mm of the highest quality at a more than honest price, bought from RCE FOTO in Padua and arrived in one day for just over 500 € PS I'm considering the purchase of other focal lengths.
sent on 17 Gennaio 2025 Pros: truly unbeatable value for money, very sharp already at TA, aperture ring, customizable keys, construction, screw filter attachment. Cons: af a bit slow even on a9III, lens hood with a bit "ad cazzumm" attachment but all in all for what it costs there are no cons... Opinion: Bought on Amazon for 509 euros new, I had been courting him for a while but in the end I was convinced, I needed a wide angle with a wide aperture so that I could also use it for weddings during evening dances or in any case in low light, I think it has a really unattainable value for money for other lenses of this kind, At this figure I don't think there is anything better around. Very solid construction, tropicalized, customizable keys, diaphragm ring, OLED screen like batis, very sharp... in short, in my opinion a must have! the only flaw is a bit slow in afs both on a7r4 and a9III (where obviously it makes better) but in afc nothing to say is better.
sent on 21 Dicembre 2024 Pros: Amazing sharpness already at full opening, construction, screen with settings and function keys Cons: For now, no one Opinion: Love at first use, incredible sharpness already at 1.8 which becomes excellent at 2.8 at least on my alpha IV and alpha 9 bodies. Very manageable vignetting in real use. Fast AF. Very nice blur. The metal construction gives a solid feel that I haven't had since my first SLRs in the 80s. Tropicalized and internal fire. Upgradable via usb c socket
sent on 14 Ottobre 2024 Pros: Price, construction, screw filters, aperture, display and much more. Cons: Flare and lens hood attachment. Opinion: I hadn't heard very good things about the first Viltrox lenses, but this 16mm pulled me a lot, so I decided to get it... to immediately put it to the test in Iceland with a my Sony a7IV. Purchased in March 2024 for €550, so a super honest price, I was immediately fascinated, aluminum construction, well-done tropicalization, excellent display and firmware updates directly from the app without any adapter. This lens was my choice for many reasons, in addition to the features I have already mentioned above, this lens offers f/ 1.8 aperture, with excellent sharpness already at f/ 2.2, good coma for night photos from f/2.8, super useful display for focusing, with two customizable buttons, one of which is personally set to "infinite" focus to have point stars. You arrive at the spot, position the camera, with a click the lens is set to the desired focus and I am ready to shoot at my sky... It seems little but at night it saves a lot of time. Being a super wide-angle, it still offers the possibility of mounting 77mm screw filters, also a great plus point! Focus? Excellent, fast and with an excellent response also on the video side. Could you ask for more? In my opinion, considering the price, I think not! What I didn't like is definitely the coupling of the lens hood, bad, with a minimum movement the lens hood (not of excellent workmanship) comes off and you risk losing it. Some attention to be paid in the light vignetting very manageable in post and also to flares, with direct lights in my opinion it suffers a bit. I conclude by saying that after months of use, even in bad weather and/or light situations, it has always satisfied me and I highly recommend its purchase. In my profile there are many photos taken thanks to this little gem.
sent on 16 Settembre 2024 Pros: Cost, almost no distortion Cons: Full-aperture clarity, ridiculous lens hood attachment Opinion: It's a great lens, I use it on the Z6II and Z6III but I still have to test it well in the different scenes. I'm not convinced by the sharpness for the moment, especially with the aperture wide open but as I said, I still have to test it well. The lens hood is not bad but the attachment is on par with the other Viltrox lenses I own, almost ridiculous.
sent on 13 Luglio 2024 Pros: Sharpness beyond expectations even at maximum aperture, construction, screen with all the information. Cons: Until now no one Opinion: Recently bought tried only during the day, it's a bomb, at night I haven't tried it yet, but from what I read it should be super even in that case. Great lens, fantastic construction and the weight with my Z6II doesn't seem excessive to me. The screen on the barrel is very useful both automatically and manually. highly recommended.
sent on 02 Luglio 2024 Pros: Good sharpness even at 1.8, from 2.2 to f8 is really a blade, compact and space-saving, for me it is not heavy, a right weight, excellent digital screen, with a button at night they are in focus in an instant. Cons: Slight vignetting that is very manageable in PS Opinion: I had the opportunity to test it both during the day during sunset and at night, a lens that left me happy, beautiful colors, on a7iv it fits like a glove aesthetically, AF very fast, the quality of the file that churns out is remarkable, sharp even at the edges, little coma at 1.8 that improves to 2.2, in short, paid 590 € a lens that can be compared very well with the sony 14 GM. Recommended rating 10
sent on 13 Settembre 2023 Pros: Excellent sharpness already at full aperture, metal construction and very solid, very useful display, possibility to mount screw filters (77MM) fantastic focus memorization function for night use, well-controlled coma and very good backlight seal if you do not necessarily look for the glow. Cons: Average hood Opinion: Ordered with much perplexity but at the same time very curious ... I was absolutely impressed by this optics, very sharp ALWAYS at all openings plus at 1.8 even the edges are more than good, it becomes a razor from 2.8 to 8. Nothing to envy to top lenses with regard to truly incredible optical performance, for landscape and night use a lens to have for strength. I use it on A7RII and III for day and night landscapes and it left me stunned. Moreover, screw filters can be mounted... Unmissable at the proposed sale price... If you have prejudices about the brand (As I had) you will change your mind after trying it. Highly recommended
sent on 04 Agosto 2023 Pros: Cost, focus, brightness, strain Cons: Not very high weight but it makes a bit of a difference. Opinion: I was very excited to try this lens, from the reviews some (perhaps biased) promised miracles, higher sharpness than GMaster lenses... Well, in short, this is not the case... In any case, I am not at all disappointed by this goal, on the contrary. So far I have been able to see an excellent and fast focus, I have not noticed any noises. It works well both in photos and videos, only in dark environments even if there are bright contrasts it tends to break down a bit, but nothing catastrophic, normal limits. Having already the FE 20G I could make a comparison, the sharpness does not exceed that of mid-range sony lenses, but still comes very close, for a lens that costs half I would say that the results are excellent. I found it slightly brighter than the 20 sony, with the same parameters, maybe almost a +0.3. Absurdly I noticed being more performing and sharp at full opening rather than completely closed. I made some great night shots at the Milky Way, I will post them when I also learn to edit them decently. The deformation is almost nothing, a great job all in all this lens that has almost nothing to envy to the G series, especially the price
sent on 17 Luglio 2023 Pros: All! Really everything Cons: Vignette quite a bit, a bit heavy, I would have preferred a minimum focusing distance of less than 27 cm Opinion: All great : Sharpness (it is a blade really) , Distortion miraculously non-existent , colors , autofocus (as far as the af speed can be worth on an ultra wide angle) , AF speed in video , Solid construction , PRICE! The screen is definitely a big advantage for night photography. The metal construction gives the feeling of a bombproof lens and in my opinion it is, but this translates into a few hectograms more. I recommend it to those looking for a landscape lens and also some portrait on the fly, why portrait? Because the aperture and the total absence of distortion make possible some portraits up close with a nice bokeh (9 diaphragm blades)
