sent on 04 Agosto 2024 Pros: Image quality, construction, AF. Cons: Nothing when used with the right body. Opinion: The only addition to the opinions/reviews already written: I use it on both A9 and A7R2. It makes a huge difference! If I am in entomological hunting I use the A9 with which it can lock on to subjects a few cm moved by the wind freehand even at f10 and with little light. Practically a point and shoot, lightning-fast it is sufficiently responsive and fast to maintain focus in very borderline situations; which for a macro is not obvious, especially when you have the subject 5 cm or less from the lens hood. With the A7R2, in macro only in manual because now that it ends with focus breathing the insect is already gone. Therefore more static subjects. Then of course, I prefer the file of this one because it is more "pasty" and natural, but then they are tastes.
sent on 15 Luglio 2024 Pros: All the good that is said about it in previous reviews and more: colors and three-dimensionality also (and especially?) in video Cons: The usual: a tripod ring useful in some cases is missing Opinion: Given that I mainly do videos, this 90 macro combined with the Alpha 6700 surprised me not only for the optical quality but also for the performance of both autofocus and stabilization, even if it is an old project, from 2015. Watch this video, done in autofocus and partly freehand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuJMSLmPP5E&t=4s . Just in 2015 the French magazine "Chasseur d'images" said it was surprised to see this lens branded only Sony and not Sony / Zeiss, but I like to think that in any case the contribution of Zeiss know-out, then frequent for Sony, was there. Certainly in this lens I immediately appreciated not only the definition but a considerable three-dimensionality, spatiality or macrocontrast if you prefer, which combined with the rendering of colors really makes you think of the optical qualities of Zeiss. Moreover, if it is not my subjective impression, it seems that in video these qualities are even more evident.
sent on 17 Settembre 2023 Pros: Sharp, robust, AF-MF ring, AF great to be macro, stabilized. Cons: It suffers from very noticeable diffraction from f14. Opinion: It is a macro, so it is likely that it is often used with closed apertures. I had other macro lenses (90 tamron and 100 pentax) and I must say that I almost never encountered diffraction problems before buying this lens. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth. In principle it is a very clear objective, corrected for both distortion and aberrations. Very robust and with a remarkable AF for the category. The change of mode from AF to MF via anelo I found very convenient. At home sony there are not many alternatives for macros, perhaps the sigma 105 but it is not stabilized.... Let's say that for me it's a love-hate relationship.
sent on 22 Aprile 2023 Pros: Very sharp, beautifully built and weatherproof Cons: Lack of tripod ring, so more suitable for freehand use Opinion: I have owned this lens for almost 3 years and it satisfied me, even if it has a very serious lack for me. It is very sharp, rather heavy as I like it and durable. I often photograph with unfavorable weather without any kind of coverage so as not to waste time when I have to shoot. It has taken dust, rain and mud at will and is like new. The thing I like least is the blurred, with closed diaphragms it is too marked and not very delicate for my taste. But this is not a defect, it is something common to all 90 or 100mm macros. I am used to the blur of 180 and 200mm that now unfortunately no one produces anymore. The real flaw for me very serious is the lack of the tripod ring. When I use this lens I have to hook the camera to the tripod, so if I place it horizontally and then I want to shoot vertically I have to unhook the camera to change position. I photograph in very uncomfortable positions and this operation can often become problematic. In addition, something very important for me, with such movements I risk scaring the animals I photograph. This problem led me to use this lens much less in favor of the old 200mm macro nikon, with a more delicate blur and equipped with a tripod ring. With the nikon it takes 2 seconds to turn it vertically together with the camera, plus the system hooked with the ring is much more balanced. I don't understand why the various 100mm lenses don't have them. The 90 remains, however, along with the 35, my first choice when I photograph at night freehand, often in the rain and in places where the tripod is not usable.
sent on 23 Luglio 2021 Pros: Sharpness (see notes), construction, AF to MF switch and vice versa Cons: drop in yield to very closed diaphragms, which is not indifferent on a maco Opinion: Surely a lens with enormous advantages that, however: - must be able to manage in post because to say that it is engraved is little, it has an exaggerated micro-contrast that may not please especially those who make classic portraits. On the other hand, I made the best views ever, it's even better than the 70-200 GM.... up to f13 - I often found myself wanting / having to shoot at f16 and here the rogne begin because the colors go out and the sharpness drops, although in a lesser way than it comes to think from many reviews. However, for a macro, it means a lot.

sent on 02 Aprile 2021 Pros: Quality, sharpness, precision, AF/MF ring Cons: AF uncertain sometimes Opinion: It was the first SONY lens bought as soon as I switched from Fujifilm to Sony and coming from fuji's 80th-minute machine, I have to say that the demands were high. Well the lens was a surprise and all the reviews read before the purchase are confirmed. I use it in the studio for beauty and fashion product and I am very satisfied. Take the work home, it returns great results and my customers are happy. More than that?
sent on 04 Gennaio 2021 Pros: Sharpening both in photos and videos, I often use it with my A7rii mounted on the Ronin M and it's perfect! Not too heavy, bright, precise. Comfortable the ring for switching from automatic to manual. Cons: Nobody Opinion: I sold the 85mm 1.8 to switch to this 90mm macro! I missed a stop but gained at least a thousand more advantages. I think it's the lens I use most for studio portraits, still life and motorsport videos. I've never had a problem, the sharpness is perfect. I've read about some complaining of a sharp drop in sharpness at F14, BUT that's not a problem since it would be enough to do a focus stacking. Digitals don't behave like analog (the more you close the iris the sharper you had), digital loses quality after f13-14 forward. Apart from that, I am very happy with this objective and consider it essential!
sent on 13 Settembre 2020 Pros: Top sharpness, excellent gear, impeccable construction, stabilized and tropicalized, af/mf dial very comfortable Cons: Nothing Opinion: The most beautiful macro glass I could ever try and I tried a lot of them from various houses. Superior to the excellent 100 Canon, 100mm Pentax and the whole wonderful series of Macros made by Sigma (I had them all, from 70mm up to the mammoth and spectacular 180mm F2.8). Good autofocus to be a macro. Spectacular portraitist with a beautiful blur. Zero aberrations in every condition. Paired with a bigmpx provides huge satisfactions, the amount of detail captured on an A7Rx leaves you literally stunned. This glass would deserve to all intents and purposes, to belong to the GM series, the features are all there, including the top price! ;)
sent on 30 Ottobre 2019 Pros: detail and sharpness just beautiful, solid, blurry beautiful Cons: weighs a little since it's FF; AF sometimes takes too long but I think for a macro it's by definition Opinion: I'm a newbit, so I don't know how much my review is worth but, I have to say that with this lens it seems to have a microscope in hand, for the detail and sharpness you can find. I use it on the A6500. Discover another world! It integrates very well with the a6500, I think for someone who has a sony and is interested in the macro world is a must! The dive moves well.
sent on 10 Settembre 2019 Pros: Top sharpness from F2.8 to F13, construction, stabilization, excellent mf/af pass, tropicalized, very pleasant blurry, q/p (especially if on offer with cb), ac contained... Cons: ... sharpness drop from F14. Opinion: Given that I use it mainly in manual focus on tripod to make macros (first on the A6500 then on A7III) it turns out to be a very versatile lens as it becomes an excellent medium canvases for portraits because of the beautiful blurred. Sharp from scare up to F11, excellent again at F13/14, closing further starts a dizzying drop but I don't often get up that much. The construction is very solid and in the hands of a sense of quality. Excellent the dial that allows a quick switch from mf to af and the button on the barrel. It's not very light but it balances well on bodies A. Efficient stabilization and tropicalization go to complete a lens in my opinion to have absolutely in their Sony kit in both apsc and ff. Price all in all competitive given what it offers (and competition), with cashback becomes even cheaper.
sent on 08 Settembre 2019 Pros: Construction, sharpness, bokeh, price Cons: AF that sometimes struggles Opinion: Macro optics very beautiful especially for its sharpness and bokeh... Quality construction, cute the case that comes along with the lens! On A7RIII the AF dances and fatigues very in low light situations and even in normal conditions sometimes from some boredom... What anyway that Sony could fix with a firmware update... Otherwise nothing to say! Perhaps the most underrated lens of the Sony kit along with the 100mm always sony, really great even for portraits!
sent on 09 Luglio 2019 Pros: Flawless construction, excellent solvency at all diaphragms, good value Cons: for me nothing Opinion: I come from the Canon 100 2.8 Macro, which is already great, but here we are at an even higher level. I use it for portraits and of course macrophotos with great satisfaction. It's my favorite lens, try it and you'll realize what a fixed optics is capable of. It's worth all the money spent, in fact, compared to the pretty good Canon should cost a lot more. I dare not imagine what it can do mounted on a 50 Mp camera (if it ever comes). Recommended for those who make macros and also those who do not...
sent on 25 Marzo 2019 Pros: Sharpness already with t/in color, speed, construction Cons: A firmware update Would be convenient so that the EVF viewfinder can display the playback ratio Opinion: Spectacular Lens, beautiful colors, a crazy sharpness, a very fast AF to be a macro, excellent build quality and lightness, plus a Swicht AF/MF Best in the world, I have several other lenses including a Sigma 35 Art is the 70/200 F4, but this is What is always attached to the car, my favorite, rated 10
sent on 15 Ottobre 2018 Pros: construction, AF Fast and precise, sharp (well It's a macro) nice bokeh, versatile. Cons: If you find me let me know Opinion: Great. I do not think it has against, even the price although high can be considered a counter. It's built solidly, optical quality really very high AF very fast and precise and has a really nice bokeh so much to use it quietly even in portraits. With all the goodies of a macro as a convenient and fast AF/MF selector, it is also stabilized. To have if you also like the macro Photography.
sent on 12 Ottobre 2018 Pros: sharpness, internal focus, panic construction, all bokeh, fair price Cons: Nothing Opinion: This is the perfect lens for me. Used several times, resolvated and rebought often. One of the very few lenses I just took in my hand made me say "WOW". The construction is absurdly solid, everything is metal, including the Ring of MAF. You won't find a specimen of these ruined in the trade, because unless you helmets you will never seem to used it as it is incredibly solid. Switching from MF to AF is possible by sliding the ring nut all the way up and down, comfortable compared to a switch. But then you guys are perfect, it has a very fast AF, the bokeh is amazing, the sharpness is superb, it doesn't slide forward the body even going to ratio of 1:1 (like macro lenses that stretch)... I don't know what to say, you have to try it 5 minutes and you'll love it. I never praise a lens in this way (my reviews speak clearly), but here Sony is to applaud. It has also succeeded in inserting an internal stabilization, probably useless but it is always comfortable. I sold it exclusively because I switched to a sigma art macro 70mm. But if I had to trim the kit, I would definitely take it to have a portrait lens and macro that covers me from 50 to 135mm. Among other things, it has a very comfortable customizable button at will on the body. It's also tropicalized. I do not know, it is only missing that on one side of the lens bait a Neapolitan coffee. Ah and all this for the modest amount of €700 used and under the €1000 new. One of the very few lenses that deserves a 10 \ \ 10 (along with the Batis 18mm f2.8 and a few other lenses).
sent on 06 Giugno 2018 Pros: well built; Sharpness IF Very precise focus ring. Cons: Weight Moving the focus ring to focus in manual. Opinion: I have and use this lens for about a year, maybe I made the mistake of matching it to a a6300 (APS-C), but in macro the autofocus is quite undecided species in continuous mode. I often work in manual (Times and apertures), but exploit the autofocus (center point) for my eyesight problems and if I set a more closed aperture than f/11 I'm never sure of the focus because it oscillates continuously, which never happened to me with SLRs ( Pentax and Nikon). In macro I expect to have image quality even at closed apertures, while this gives the best at medium apertures. Little Practice the focus ring (for slipping in manual mode, with focus shift) although precise and very fluid (Nikon and Sigma do not need slippage).
sent on 06 Giugno 2018 Pros: Materials-sharpness-stabilizer-BOKEH-tropicalization-light and much more. Cons: At the moment nothing. Opinion: Lens that I use for a few days without stopping, excites me more and more. Fast and accurate AF, fantastic colors, BOKEH at f. 2.8 really nice. Very comfortable the focus ring in manual, even if not very easy to interpret in the reports. Very good optical stabilizer. Minimum CFUOCE at 25 cm. Unrivalled. Very good internal focus motor. Recommended
sent on 31 Marzo 2017 Pros: awesome sharpness, micro contrast, colors, construction, blurry Cons: minimum opening that stops af / 22 Opinion: It's a macro lens but not a traditional macro. It has a very fast af to be a project for macro photography. Those looking for a traditional macro lens may also be disappointed. The smallest aperture stops af / 22 and the diffraction is seen af ??/ 14 and becomes annoying already af / 16 ... apertures that are quite normal in macro photography. But I like it very much because it is very versatile and allows the use in portraits by providing fast af and a decent blur. It is quite expensive to be a 90mm but the construction is of high level and the stabilizer works very well (tested cmq on a6500 and a7r2 both equipped with sensor stabilizer). It should be pointed out that on aps it does not become a 135 f / 2.8 .... it always remains a 90mm f / 2.8. Even if the crop factor has an angle of 135 to 135mm true it is another thing obviously. Very useful the assignable function key (I use it to focus on the eyes). There is also the limiter for the af to three classic positions. For the world And Sony is definitely a must have ... whoit will only take a portrait lens will have other choices but for me it is definitely a great choice. Voting 9.5
sent on 11 Marzo 2017 Pros: Currently the best lens for Sony FF. of APSC it becomes an incredible 135mm 2.8 for stunning portraits and sharp as a pair of freshly made glasses. Cons: Only if you have the 70-200 2.8 GMaster this lens "might" not be necessary. But the fact remains that the minimum focusing distance to 25cm is unmatched. Opinion: It is a high quality device with an incredible resolution. Lightweight and built impeccably. Very bright, a great bokeh made with its 9 blunt blades. My test (despite being a person very attached to the numbers) for this lens was simply tile it to a Zeiss batis 1.8 85mm and a 85mm sony 1.4GMaster "both lenses that I own" and comparing them to a 200% crop to 2.8 this FE 90mm 2.8 Macro was much sharper between three and with vignetting and AC virtually assenti.rnrnA my opinion this lens is a GMaster and not a G and its price is absolutely justified ... we had been written or Canon Nikon would have a miracle because of the "unbelievable cheapness" of the lens ... but since it says sony ... things change and it is too cara.rnrné a lens you have to force (unless you do not like me 70 200 2.8 g master) not only for the minimum ability to focus "not matched by 70 200 g master "which is actually 25cm and 28cm but not even for the minimum Focus range selectable by switch on the lens stabilizer on / off and the marvelous soft key which by default is set to" Hold focus. Great sharpness, lightness, bright and pleasant to the touch .. sure costs a little and shell out nearly 1000 euro is a bang but worth it ... my Samyang 100macro is outstanding but MF and unregulated as well as some heavy are the features that have made me decide to buy this 90mm SonyrnrnSuper soddisfattornrnStraconsigliatornche heck is a sony!

Stil life, fashion, portraits in the studio and outdoors and even wedding reportage ... rnMi spupisce every day more ... The use of Sony a7 and gives me shots amazing every time !!! The stabilizer does his homework so great, the autofocus is fast and accurate and to 2.8 on a blurred pleasant! rnih substance is a perfect and free of optical defects! |
sent on 02 Novembre 2015 Pros: materials, sharpness, bokeh, stabilizer Cons: scale reproduction does not rotate in AF, making it more difficult to understand that relationship is working. Opinion: A fantastic goal on all fronts, both on macro portraiture that expresses its full potential. Great creamy bokeh, thanks to 9 aperture blades. Excellent sharpness, a razor already at full aperture is obviously at the center to the edges, good control of flare, superb build quality, with the use of high quality plastic and metal. Very convenient also the possibility to change from AF to MF simply pushing up or downwards the ring focus. The weight is not excessive, as well as the size, comparable to the other party producers canon and nikon, however on mirrorless Sony A7 (especially one mark as my own, where the handle is still the "small") to balance it better would be advisable the use of a battery grip. Works very well integrated stabilizer, allowing you to remove the micro moved also using time low as 1 / 15s. Good key locations, including the blocking of focus.
sent on 29 Luglio 2015 Pros: Construction, sharpness, blur Cons: Cumbersome and moderately heavy Opinion: A lens "important" in many ways: expensive (always remains a "G" series of Sony), bulky and heavy enough. In practical use it is extremely versatile even outside the macro. Razor sharp and edgy already wide open, from center to edge, portraiture also reveals a blurred creamy and pleasant. The construction is excellent, the combined weight to my A7II is not so excessive as to make the system unbalanced (the size would suggest a greater weight).
