Pros: Lightweight, compact, versatile, well built, robust, excellent image quality

Cons: In my opinion, no one

Opinion: I thought of adding a "compact" to my Sony A1, but with this lens there is no need! With this "combo" you can go everywhere, you are light, you don't even feel the weight in the backpack. The image quality does not make you regret much more expensive lenses. The autofocus locks well and does not give problems, the blur is not that of the 50mm 1.2 but still allows a fair detachment of the planes and - where necessary - a good "three-dimensionality". Under the small lens hood (which I always keep mounted) there is a "slim" UV protection filter. Very satisfied!

Pros: Optical Quality - Sharpness - Low Weight

Cons: Price

Opinion: Taken a year ago on offer at about € 400, it has become my favorite lens on Sony A7r II ... Exceptional sharpness, lightweight and impeccable construction. A little jewel of metal and glass! With a 40mm you do everything, from panoramas to portraits and it is, in my opinion, the right middle ground between 35 and 50mm ... Fully satisfied, although at full price there are other valid alternatives.

Pros: Lightweight, compact, great optical quality

Cons: Only 3.5, absurdly too much depth of field

Opinion: Taken to have an optics to always keep attached to the camera body, it does not disappoint if you are looking for quality and reduced size. Someone can not get used to a focal length that is halfway between normal and 35mm, I find it very comfortable and suitable for many uses. It always performs well, even at maximum openings. If he really has to find a defect is that, at least in my opinion, to have so much depth of field. But it is a strictly personal opinion, mind you. I read that it is considered optically superior to the 35 2.8, in reality it is also an excellent walking lens, light and very comfortable, in reality I do not think we can make comparisons because we are talking about two different focal lengths. Definitely recommended, but its real field of action is reportage before any other.

Pros: Sharpness even at maximum aperture, weight and compactness, materials, lightning-fast AF

Cons: a bit expensive

Opinion: Optics purchased more for videos than for photos as it has a lightning AF with 2 linear motors and allows incredible tracking and precision with zero noise and ridiculous weight despite being impeccably built. Actually I'm using it a lot even in photography as it is really sharp from the center to the edges, even at full aperture ... Ok it is not an f/1.8 but at f/2.5 you have a very nice blur with round bokeh and sharpness practically at the top. Another gem is the aperture ring with 1/3 stop shots and key that makes it fluid for video use. Also commendable is the programmable button on the barrel. If you can have discounted it, it's an optics to be taken on the fly.

Pros: Sharpness, compactness, finishes, hood

Cons: Price

Opinion: First lens combined with the Sony A7III, I find it extraordinary in terms of compactness and sharpness. Fast and silent autofocus, internal focus with inexpensive filter diameter. The hood likes or does not like for its strange shape and on which you can put the cap without removing it from the body. Sony after years of deafness, has listened to many users who wanted small and light lenses with high quality without necessarily combining f1.4 bison with an exaggerated price, size and weight. The price is still slightly high, but compared to its rivals in terms of build quality and sharpness for me there are no comparisons. I hope that after the triad 24-40-50 Sony also comes out with a medium telephoto with the same compactness and quality.

Pros: Compactness, construction, diaphragm controlled with dial (with deactivatable clicks), sharpness, absence of chromatic aberrations, optics with the latest technologies, focus.

Cons: Opening 2.5 a bit limited for the price, price.

Opinion: I bought this lens as I wanted a small fixed to be used for some portraits and videos with my Sony and I let myself be intrigued by this brand new series of three lenses (24, 40 and 50). I also wanted to test the technology of my a7RIII with a recent perspective. Undoubtedly the price is a bit too high but the quality is quite good, chromatic aberrations almost completely absent. On Alpha 7RIII the autofocus is very fast. The weight is really low and makes the machine almost compact. It's clearly not comparable to a Canon 50mm 1.2 series L or Sony's GM equivalent but it also costs a quarter of its price. For sure it seems that it is much better than the previous Sony Zeiss 35mm 2.8, although the focal length is different or at least I have read opinions on those who compared them. Sony did not yet have a 40mm, personally I find it a strange focal length, you have to get used to it as it is neither a wide angle nor a normal and therefore you can also adapt well to any eventuality but it is not trivial. I took a series of portraits of my morosa to test the sharpness and it looks very valid.
