Pros: Sharpness, almost no flare, lightning-fast AF, aperture ring, blurry at 2.8
Cons: Lens hood a bit cumbersome to assemble, it costs a lot
Opinion: Premise: Landscape photos. I took this zoom because before I only used a 14-24 2.8, a 70-200 f4 and a fixed 40mm, so it was an intermediate zoom to be used as an all-rounder, since in certain adventures it became necessary to have only one lens with me. Then I also wanted to take it to have a GM and make the most of the car which is an a7rIV, or at least I thought that way it would make the most of it. For now, I have to say that I'm satisfied (and fortunately, given the cost!). I've used it on some adventures in the mountains, in the snow, at sunset, and during the day! The sharpness is really at high levels, at the edges it doesn't seem to change too much the performance in the maximum and minimum zoom values, which is important as I often use it at 24, and very often at 70, using a little less the intermediate steps. The build quality is great, although being less heavy than the sigma 14-24 I have, it almost feels more plasticky! Surely it's just a feeling given by the weight. In any case, 200 grams less is an advantage in the mountains! Actually, the general impression is this: A PERFECT optics, which consequently, in order to be such, renounces some characteristics that for example are typical of Sigmas to obtain a personality. However, this is not a defect, it is a measuring instrument more than a musical instrument, it captures the light with fidelity and precision, without enriching and coloring, what it does it does perfectly, in the maximum possible yield :) |
